My uncle, who is the raddest dude I've ever met and encouraged me to skate and make art as a kid, is a Vietnam Marine combat veteran with two purple heart medals and a bronze star. He was honorably discharged after his leg was blown off. He volunteered to serve, but he loves art and literature, and was really stoked on seeing skating in the late 70's. When he saw me try ollies In fall 1988 on his son's plastic board and I brought a copy of Thrasher when he babysat me, he bought me a SMA Natas complete with Gullwing trucks and OJ2 wheels that Christmas. I haven't stopped skating since. My folks would have never bought me a board. People that love America and are willing to die for it can be rad and love art and culture, too.

Isn't this this the same location that appeared in "Animal Chin". The bit with maps for the skaters homes?

Close but no cigar! Maps to skaters homes was shot near the Golden Gate Bridge - this is the Bay Bridge. Good call though! PS have you seen the Orb episode? He's 'The "Map to Skater Homes" Guy' ;)
