Max thank you again for all you do for the GW. I have only had my motorcycle lic for 7 years now. Guys like you make it possible for "new" riders like me to wrench on my own GW. You are a true gentleman.

Excellent information. Nothing against anyone wishing to do this but I won’t be. Price for what you get doesn’t justify cost. Then I would have to pay someone to install it due to my limited computer skills. Here’s my take; the GW DCT is awesome as is. And the enemy of good is better. Thanks for the great videos.

Hi Max, nice video. I look forward to your other episodes in this series. I just completed this process last weekend with Cruiseman's help. I agree that you need to be comfortable with computers and tech in order to attempt this. That said, it is fairly straight forward. It is very important to point out that you need a PC running Windows for this procedure. It will not work with a Mac, even one running Windows under Parallels. I think that the ECU flash made a significant improvement in my bike. I especially like how it smoothed out Sport mode. Another thing I would point out is that BT-Moto strongly recommends that you need to restore the original ECU file on your bike before you take it in to the dealer for service. You can then re-flash it afterwards. I plan to put out a video about this in the next week or so. Ride safely!

I am going to inquire about this, because they told me directly there would be no way for a dealer to know that it had been flashed. It would take a deep dive by Honda to find it. One way or the other, if you take your bike in for a tire change, you would not need to "unflash" your bike one way or the other... no one is hitching anything to it. Since I never, ever, ever, ever, ever hear of Goldwings with Engine, Fuel, and Drivetrain failures, I would not be concerned about this at all.

@@Traxxion Please let us know what you find out about this. It seems to me to be quite a pain to have to "unflash" it (restore the original ECU file and then reflash it with the tuned file every time that you take it into the dealer for service. I take my bike in for service every 4000 miles. I have owned it for just over 9 months now and have put 12000 miles on it. That is a lot of Flashing and "Unflashing". Also I get asked this question all of the time: does doing this flash void the Honda Warranty? Do you have any information about that?
@Traxxion2 ай бұрын
@@tom81773 Will do. Canned response about warranty: No Honda dealer can see it. Literally "anything" voids your warranty, but Honda doesn't deny claims. Change your windshield, void warranty. Change your seat, void warranty. Change your oil brand, void warranty. It just doesn't happen... and they don't break down anyway, at least not engine fuel and drive systems. The Goldwing is the most heavily altered and customized motorcycle in the world, and if warranty was a problem, everyone would know it. It is against the law for OEMs to "void warranties" because the owner performs his own maintenance, or uses aftermarket products. It's been that way since the Magnusson Moss Act in 1975.

@@tom81773 Look up "Magnusson Moss Right to Repair".... it has been against Federal Law for 54 to say someone can't work on their own vehicle. As long as oil meets quality standard, put anything you want in there. I'm going to do a video on this.

Thanks for doing this, I’m very interested in hearing what you think about this post flash. I like your desktop setup, I had multiple displays when I was doing IT work. It was much easier to monitor and work with several applications at the same time.

Watch Part 4, it has my impressions and a customer who just rode his bike for the first time.

Max, I can't believe you missed the perfect opportunity to use the borescope to see the ECU part number 😁
@Traxxion2 ай бұрын
HEY!!!! That is a great idea, and it might really work on a 6-speed, where you can't see the ECU like on a DCT.

I assume that the programmer is vin locked to your bike or can it be used on another motorcycle? I figured since the programmer is used to retrieve the MAP from any motorcycle that’s compatible, the programmer would not be vin locked. I’ve used Tuners for cars but those were for a specific automobile but this BT Moto doesn’t look like the same type device. In the end, the BT Moto would not be vin locked to just one motorcycle. Sorry to be so long winded. I hope I made sense.
@Traxxion2 ай бұрын
The device isn't but the "downloads" are... The sales price is for one VIN, and they attach the download to your VIN. I have an inquiry in as to what they would do for a person who owns several different bikes.

@@Traxxion Thanks Max. I'm in the market for a new Wing next year and this update is something that I'd likely consider. For me, the biggest thing I'd be concerned about is, if for some reason, I had engine problems, that's a pretty pricey thing to replace! Although as you say, I haven't really heard of folks having issues.

@@donmartin9567 I've been working Goldwings since 1985. I've never even heard of a dead ECU. It would be SPECTACULARLY rare. Engines, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever fail. EVER.
