Wisconsin has a very good team again this season. As a European who follows professional leagues and international youth championships, I have known Guctekin for a long time and I am not surprised by her level; I am really impressed with Orzol, she is very complete in all the roles of an outside hitter, very smart and she covers the 6 position in the back row absolutely well. So, in my opinion, the team is very well balanced and if Sheffield can improve the block-defense, that could be Wisconsin's main weapon. The taller players at the net combined with Orzol-Guctekin on the back row could be very difficult to beat. Shefield has a view of volleyball that is more similar to that of coaches of professional teams than his colleagues because he understands better the value of a balanced team while his US colleagues often only look for the tallest and most powerful players (see Parra's fate with the Longhorns). This game had me on pins and needles the whole time. Partially because Marquette played very well, and partly because it will take Wisconsin some time to find the best lineups per game situation. Improvement is needed in all positions, but you can see the talent.

Sheff HAS to be happy his 6-2 rotation is working out although it needs some tweaking. The scoreboard doesn't reflect how close the match really was. Wisconsin was struggling at times and Marquette nearly ran away with it. That said, 4 hitters against 3 blockers is hard to defend. Kudos to their new libero who does an amazing job. Orzol had some amazing digs as well.

Hammil has good hands but she's very slow under the ball ; she has to work hard her speed. I think for this reason that Ashburn is better actually . Franklin also has to improve her movement to better adapt to non-optimal situations: accelerate the run-up to attack, replacement in position 6 . She's high et powerful but she's an outside hitter , not an opposite in this system, and an outside hitter must do this.

place was POPPING once we got that comeback going in the 3rd. And it really coincided with Gülce getting more comfortable and the team just getting the passing under control. Excited to see her development over the season! Free Shanel tho.
