I'm not sure but it looks like the serial# on yours is VERY close to my 67 Tele (blonde w/maple cap board. Mine is 111xxx). According to most serial# references, puts the guitars in the late 66 period but Fender was notorious for using mixed date parts. While my neckplate is late 66, the neck is stamped AUG 67B. The original pots were 67. You could get these for a song years ago. I paid 400 for mine in 1985. Then it was almost mint. I was 15 years old and on a lunch break while working with my dad. We popped into a music store and I saw it hanging there. It looked just like "Keef's" Tele. The manager said it had been traded in that morning. It was mine by 1:00PM the same day :) . It's been my main gigging and recording axe for many, many years and has had most of the lacquer played off the neck and the body is "well used". Nothing compares to it. I have a lot of very nice axes but this is "The One" and always will be. Great video!!! Keep on pickin'!!

Hello Scundo, thank you for the nice feedback and the beautiful story of your guitar! Has your Telly a golden transition logo? Typically serial numbers from 1967 start with 2. The serial number on your neck plate would usually date back to early 1966 or even late 1965. That is quite unusual indeed: of course the final assembly of the guitar can not pre-date the pots or the neck : ) Possibly they used an older leftover neck plate.

@@BobsToneReview Yes it has the gold transition logo and the older style Klusons. It may even be a mutt made from 65/66 and 67 parts. Who knows . That's how it was when I got it. In fact, it had some kind of weird red bobbin lead pickup in it. The original was in the case so it may have been mucked with all those years ago before I got it. I won't go into the humbucker "route" that was made using a butterknife or some other similar dull tool. I found that the first time i took the pickguard off. Ugh..... There should be a law for people who defile guitars like that. LOL. It's a player now. I have all the original parts. It has newer tuners and Joe Barden's in it now so I can gig with it without all the noise. The original pickups need to be rewound. They finally got too weak to be of any use.

I'm sure it's a killer player Scundo! Yes, likely the neck plate is not original to the neck. Who knows, many people really used to mess up those old guitars back in the 70's or early 80's! I have a 1966 Telly that was butchered, even converted to double cutaway design! I will show it in some video in the near future... as a curiosity. Joe Barden pickups are a great choice but I love the original vintage pickups, in my opinion they are definitely worth restoring by some skilled winder.

By the way the red bottom pickup could be one of the first series of Fender "JV" pickups, which are generally quite appreciated.

Very cool video.... Also note that Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster was maple-cap ...

Thank you again Chris! I know that there are great examples of Maple Cap Strats, Hendrix first of all, I only decided to keep the video focused on the 'Telecasters.

Thank you Roland! Actually in this video I'm using a Deluxe Reverb. I upgraded the original CTS speaker with a modern Jensen P12N Reissue Alnico Speaker.

What pots were used in 1968-69 telecasters? 1 meg pots?
@BobsToneReview2 жыл бұрын
Ciao Martin, they are still 250K usually. I found 1 Meg Pots in 2 Telecasters from 1971 - 1972, they carried 1966 date codes.

Yes Luke, a very tough decision... sadly sometimes hard choices are due... I've been discussing this topic on my last episode: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6eseWZ-eNRqd8k
