They actually don't swim but float. 😅 This capability seems to be overrated as Ukraine shows. In my opinion, the BTR-series have always been flawed. For a cheap, reliable and ergonomic troop transport, things like the BTR-152 were always the option. Many "modern", "new" 6×6 designs seem to prove that. As a wheeled IFV the BTR 90-concept was not bad, though. Cheers from Germany.

@@gruenerteufelDD6x6 can’t carry enough troops, they would end up being more expensive per dismounted troop. I prefer the 8x8s as they provide a good squad sized unit dismount.

It is from the '80s and by that time it was an extremely good APC, one of the best by far. Indeed now it became old, but that modernization keeps it a capable vehicle, cheap enough to be mass produced and equip motorized units. It would have no sense to produce ten times more expensive vehicles that can super-protect a minimal portion of an army, then all the rest of the army has to go on foot.... this is a full scale war, and BTR-82A is a perfect vehicle for that role.
