Thanks for the video guys! I got lucky and stumbled across a couple of XFX GTS (not R) Black Edition 580's a couple weeks ago. The cards have 8 pin but no 6 pin auxiliary power connectors. Slightly less ugly too. ;-) Out of the box the cards are clocked at 1405 MHz and their "OC+" is 1425 MHz (and VRAM is 2000 MHz Hynix). They're hot and power hungry out of the box for sure! I'm thinking your method of copying the 1:1750 timings up is a good starting point. It did look like in your video that after you did that you had quite a few less memory errors (or maybe it had just been running a shorter time when the video was captured).

Really glad that reddit thread was able to help with this great video series! I'm glad it helped get the XFX RX 580 going about as fast as possible at this point in time. My 3x XFX RX 580 crimson/black editions are a bit different from this card. They have red LED lit fans and a red LED lit logos.. however they are clocked slightly slower. My version 2.0 card I was able to get 1200/2050 rather decent, my first 2.1 card I can't really comment on since its thermal throttling atm (I built a 3 card in case build), and my 2nd 2.1 card is at 1200/2150. I'm going to try and clean up my modded bios with some of the advice and tips you pointed out in this video to see if it helps me, but my 2.0 card is getting 30.31, and my 2.1 2nd card is getting 28.73 (even though its the coldest of the bunch O_o). Maybe I'll have to have different moded bios for these cards (I did save my originals, so I can always change things up).

Here is a tip: use wattman for undervolting as you can set voltages to desired value. Afterburner just takes whatever stock voltage is in the bios and offsets it to -96v. in wattman you can set it to, lets say, 1v on all these cards to lower power consumption and get apples to apples comparison.

Thanks for the tip, we are testing all of them with Wattman settings for the finale.

Watching the video later, as now there are some RX580s for about 340EUR on the market, and I am thinking... Thanks God that in 1st week of January 2018, when there were no cards at all, I bought the only available XFX RX580s for 420EUR per card, but I have the newer version, with the carbon looking design, and the nice shape at the end of the card, and my memory is Samsung. Still, 30MH is about as much as every other 580 does, so it seems that the hynix is not so terrible. My cards are a bit hot though, especially on dual, I need to provide good room temp , in order to keep them below 64C, I don't go over 64, but the fans are going above 80 for 1 or 2 of the cards at some moments. The coolest cards I have tested for mining are the MSI Gaming X+ 8GB, they led light up beautifully, and they are the best cards to mine or game, talking for RX580 that is.

Fantastic series, y'all! Quite informative. A quick question, if anyone can help: Does anyone know (or have an estimate) about what the hashrate and power consumption of the XFX GTS RX 580 4gb? Your core voltage seems like it can be lower. I use the command line for Claymore and it runs at 0.9v and uses just under 100watt according to HWiNFO and use similar clocks to you 1200/2100 with an MSI 580 8GB.

yes with many other tuning methods such as Wattman and Claymore command lines you can lower the core voltage more than the Afterburner limitation.

@BeyondTheRoutine7 жыл бұрын
the GTR-S RX 580 (of this video) is the fastest clocked RX 580 currently made by XFX. But from what we've seen, most of the RX 580s by XFX uses Hynix memory, so the mining performance will be similar.

Hi, first, great series !!!! And question... why are that red risors ver 7 bad ? i just bought it from ebay .. 18 pcs... thx for answer.
@BeyondTheRoutine7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and no, the red riser isn't "bad", but the one I was showing in the video was a bad one, and you will come across bad ones, they are making tons of these and occasionally you will get a bad one that doesn't work or doesn't work right. However, the version 7s risers because they come with the SATA power connector on the riser, it actually makes it harder to work with because SATA power cables which usually have 3 connectors per cable isn't long enough to reach 3 risers so you end up using more SATA power cables.

Thanks for the video! Yes those cards and mining are very populair :-) Your channel wil benefit from it haha. Up to the next card! A questions. If you have 2 the same cards with same memory and you take a bios backup of 1 of the 2 cards. Is that enoufh? Are the two bios 100% the same in this situation? Maybe a stupid question, but i just want to know :-) I have some asus strix rx580 08G. its doing 29,1mh/s . I saw you had the TOP OC. Keep up the the good videos ;-)
@BeyondTheRoutine7 жыл бұрын
If you have two of the same cards from the same batch of production, same version, then technically a single bios backup is enough. Our general practice here is we catalog each card's original and modded bios.
@cederiquemaes76117 жыл бұрын
Ok, yea well in fact i have 3 pieces. The first 2 i backup the bios and made 2 times a modded bios and flashed. For the 3rd i thought hmm just lets take the modded bios of the second one because they are the same cards. After all i think this was a risk... yes they are the same batch "i think" and same memory for sure! But i have to say 1 of my 3 cards is getting a bit hotter and somethings doing just a little bit lower hashrate... I am wondering if that should be that card...

Hi, I have 8 of these XFX AMD Radeon RX580s, two Crimson and six White. They have been nothing but problems. As in this video, all over the internet there are resources showing how overclocking can result in 27-30 Mh/s mining rates. However, have not seen anyone report consistent results after long periods of mining. In my hands, I can achieve stable mining for a few days to a week. However, I am currently left with 6 "bricked" cards. First, each showed strange, inconsistent operation. For instance, the computer would crash, with some of the cards left with LEDs on and fans spinning, others completely lights out as would be expected with the motherboard off. In another case, the card would run but the fans would not, so the card would start at a a high speed, then quickly drop to zero because I limited the temp to 71C. In each case, I would switch the bios back to the stock position. Sometimes this worked, sometimes not. When I was able to still recognize the card in the stock bios switch position, I would flip the switch back to the position I switch the bios and re-flash with the saved stock bios. After confirming the card was stable with the re-flashed stock bios, I tried re-flashing the modded bios (eg what it shown in this video using Polaris Bios Editor and ATIwinflash). Once again, I would get good operation for a while.. But ultimately, I am now left with 6 bricked cards unable to mine, the hardness for ether is doubled, the price of ether is half, and I've wasted over 100 hours troubleshooting and stuck with a three thousand dollar credit card bill. After over a month, I've earned only 1.4 ethereum.

wow, we feel for you. What we do beyond just modding the bios for our rigs and finding the optimal overclock settings is that we set the miner to automatically restart the entire rig when a single GPU within the rig fails for any reason. Our rigs are set to also automatically mine after a system reboot. Because of this, we do not experience the horrible situation you have described as the rigs enjoy the periodic reboot. My first question for you is this, are your XFX RX 580s with Hynix RAM and did you use the Hynix RAM timing to mod the bios or did you use option two in our video?
@JonathanMeuser7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. I do have my bios set to restart after a power outage or shutdown. However, I am not familiar with how to set windows to restart when a single GPU fails? My downtime has less to do with me not being around to reset the machine than the rig is inoperable and I can't get the graphics cards running. I do have the Ellesmere Hynix RAM and used the Hynix RAM timing: 777000000000000022AA1C00B56A6D46C0551017BE8E060C006AE6000C081420EA8900AB030000001B162C31C0313F17 in the 2:1750, 2:2000, and 2:2250 timings.

If you are using Claymore as your miner, you can create a batch file call reboot.bat and insert the command line "shutdown /r /t 5 /f" , also add the command "-r 1" into the start.bat file command line. This will trigger the miner to close and execute "reboot.bat" file if a GPU failed. For more details, follow the "-r" command info in the Readme file of Claymore miner.
@JonathanMeuser7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Since the issue results in Claymores hanging up, I am currently trying "-r 60" to refresh Claymores every hour. It is so strainge.. One by one I reprogrammed the bios on every card using ATIwinflash at the command line and the saved original bios with them plugged directly into the 1st PCI slot to eliminate possible issues with the risers. Once they all were working consistently individually, Then, I removed all the AMD drivers from Windows 10. Then I plugged all 5 back into the risers and restarted so that they loaded with the default windows driver followed by updating the driver manually to the patched driver available from the youtube user "cryptomined". I was so happy they ran successfully about 18h, even though it was the stock 22Mh/s rate! But then they crashed showing the same behavior as before. After lots of troubleshooting, I found in Windows event viewer the following System error repeating over and over before 4 out of 5 GPUs crashed, "Warning - Source: Display Event ID: 4101 "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and successfully recovered". After that, I again unplugged all GPUs and risers, removed all drivers, then reinstalled all GPUs and drivers. Interestingly, again the hashrates and stability is restored to the stock values, at least for now. My conclusions from today are that the problem is hopefully not the GPUs, but something with the software/drivers. I am running 2 Crimson and 4 Black/white xfx amd 580s with the same bios and drivers. One possible issue I am pondering is whether they have different bios and I made the mistake of saving only one "original" which I have used to update both the Crimson and Black/white. Similarly, I don't know if it is incorrect to apply the same drivers to both versions of these GPUs. I don't think this is the issue though because there is still one card that never shows the problem the four others do! Sorry for the long reply. I just want to be thorough because I know there is something I am missing, but I think I am on the right track. I really appreciate the early information and for sharing your experience. Hopefully regularly re-starting Claymores solves the issue, but I am not holding my breath!

Hello, I have been reading your comments and reply. I had the same problem with my rig, same GDU. I found that free space on the HDD has a lot to do with the GPU crashing. I replace the HDD from 60 Gb with 40 GB free to a 120 GB with 95 GB free. it fixed the crashes. but I still have memory management blue screen crashes every 2 or 3 hours. Any ideas?

Mark Liang not sure about mixing AMD and NVIDIA, but definitely do not mix RX 4xx cards with RX 5xx cards on the same rig. people have come across compatibility issues and need to troubleshoot a lot more to get things running well.
@BeyondTheRoutine7 жыл бұрын
A hybrid driver (you have to make it yourself, there are videos on this by cryptomined) will solve the issue of compatibility with mixing RX 480s and RX 580s. Essentially you are disguising a 16.9.2 driver to look like a 17.5.1 driver while keeping certain parts of the newer driver, which will then work with both RX 480 and RX 580. It's like the two drivers had a baby.

@BTR Noticed you are using ATI afterburner in many of your videos, does this mean you prefer Windows 10 over lets say EthOS? Or would this be due to the mining software?
@BeyondTheRoutine7 жыл бұрын
We use Afterburner and Windows in our videos so we can easily record what we do and viewers can follow what we do or easily verify our findings. Once we find a good setting for our rigs though we usually either use Wattman, Claymore command lines, or hard code the settings into the GPU bios. This is mainly due to the Afterburner's limitation on undervolting and the inability to change the vRAM voltage setting.

Thanks for the video. Please what driver are you using for your cards?

However, I have a problem to perform the "fine tune". It looks like MSI afterburning tool is not fully compatible with this XFX GPU. All the controls appear blocked for me. Can you please help me to "fine tune" this card. How do you do it to reduce the high temperature and increase the Mhz. I currently make 26.9 Mhz per each GDU, but the temperature is over 70 degrees Celcius.

When you say you "flashed the bios" - what do you mean? Did you update the bios from the settings or is there a specific mod we need to flash? Thanks!

we modified the bios of the GPU using Polaris Bios Editor and then flashed it onto the GPU using ATIWINFLASH. For this XFX with Hynix memory, we copied the special timing (in the description) to the 2:1750, 2:2000 and 2:2250 timing in the bios.

the GPU in this video is the GTR-S black edition, which is the top of the line. It goes like this from top to bottom: GTR-S>GTR>GTS and from Black Edition>Black Core>XXX>Core. You will have to check the vRAM using GPU-Z or HWinfo64 to determine which way to mod your bios.

@BeyondTheRoutine7 жыл бұрын
you are right, we don't, as we had mentioned before, the more people mine the harder it will be for everyone. But fortunately that has also kept the supply of Eth in check which helps with the increase in Eth market value. The difficulty has increased at an alarming rate, but fortunately the value of Eth has increased much faster than the difficulty level
@TAVOBUS7 жыл бұрын
yep but if POS start, thousands of VGAs and thousandsTH/s wil spread other altcoins and fuck the Diff level, Or if the ETH price falls by 40% Mining will no longer be profitable. And partly its fault of these mining videos on youtube
@BeyondTheRoutine7 жыл бұрын
All we are trying to do is provide informative reviews so people can make sound decisions. 3 months ago, Ethereum was at $20, today it is above $250, which is a 1250% increase. 3 month ago it was profitable to mine Ethereum. If somehow Ethereum drops in value by 40%, that will still mean $150/Eth, which is 750% from the $20 3-months ago. 170 billion was the difficulty 3 months ago, today it's at 632.5 billion, which is 372% increase. So even if Eth price drops by 40%, it would still be twice as profitable (750% vs 372%)... So yes, you and I are making less Eth per hashrate with everyone jumping in, but you and I are still doing alot better. Thank you for watching our videos, we really appreciate it.
