@22:00 my friends, those are not fuel hoses! They are water hoses! What you guys in America don't know - because they've removed the backstory from the backstory in the American catalogs - is that M:Tron is a rescue faction! In the other countries' catalogs the sets have names with "rescue" and "recovery". And they describe fire houses and water canons. Don't know why LEGO decided to change the backstory for the American market :( M:Tron are actually the heroes of the universe ;)

The thing I like about these older sets is not only are the models cool - but they are made of standard pieces and colors, so the pieces are very useful when MOC building - newer sets have so many odd shaped pieces and colors and so few real bricks and plates that it is harder to make stuff out of one set.

I collected the Classic Space theme as a kid (still have them) in the late 70's and early 80's but drifted into my Dark Ages period around 1985 (until 2018). I love learning about all these themes that I missed out on. M Tron would have been right up my ally. Great color scheme. Thanks for the great content.

My story is very similar to yours my friend except I quit Lego in 1987 due to pressure from my parents saying I was too old to be playing and collecting Lego and didn't seriously get back into Lego until 2014 so unfortunately I missed out on a lot of amazing space themes such as Blacktron and the ones featured here M-Tron which I know I would of been really into. Great video from these guys I must say.

That nose piece mold was first used in 1986 for the Classic Space theme and last used in 2000 for the Arctic series. The M:Tron Super Model was a mail order set you could get from the Lego catalogue. It came as three sets in their retail boxes and a set of loose instructions for the actual Super Model.

M:Tron was solidly in my Lego dark ages, so it's fascinating to get an in-depth perspective from someone who loves the theme. Now I'm thinking I need at least one M:Tron set to be a part of my Classic Space display.

Having a reef tank the uv/blue lights really bring out certain colors of lego. I love the trans neon orange stuff from ice planet

My justification for the lack of airtight canopies on smaller craft is that it's actually not needed if you have a suit with life support systems (symbolized by the air tanks) since there is no air resistance in space. If you're not doing any atmospheric re-entry all you need is a little shield in front of you to block any random space debris. It's actually more efficient since you only need to seal your suit, not the whole interior of the ship.

Set 6923 was called 'Gyrocopter' in the Netherlands, and in the magazines they consistently spelled "M:TRON" with capitals and a colon. The 'radar' piece is fairly common actually, including city/town sets (I recently looked it up for ... reasons)!

Commenting again a year later, I recently got the box to the Mega Core Magnetizer. In the U.S. that set was indeed called the Multi Core Magnetizer, that is the name emblazoned on the side of the box. U.S. boxes always had the set name printed on the side of the box while European boxes did not. And in the U.K. the Particle Ionizer was called the Cosmicopter!

So to get the full “complete” Mtron sub theme you’d have to get double on Particle Ionizer, Celestial Forager & Vector Detector for that special build plus as their own individual builds.

Tron movie was 1982 Didn't think M Tron had a hyphen or colon in the name. Thought it was a graphic representing the M connected to Tron by a magnet. Interesting debate....

One piece that stuck out for me on Beacon Tracker was that black 2x2x1 sloped brick with yellow vent stripes as oppose to what could’ve been an identical red sloped brick with black vent stripes as screen in other Mtron sets.

I had the smallest set in the middle as a kid and totally dreamed of having those sets. Some friends had some of the sets but it took me to overcome my dark ages to collect them all and now I could make a display similar to this. Although I don't know what's up with the one on the left :D

Particle Ionizer might be hard to get a copy of. It is one of the most expensive sets these days

That "trans neon green" is NOT the current recipe. I don't know what happened but even within later 90s sets it was more diluted and more transparent. I really miss color themed sets with more common bricks. As others have said, the minute Lego hit Star Wars in the 90s we started getting too many one use pieces. Even when making my own designs I always started with the colors that would make the theme. Now with hundreds of colors, making a color theme is very hard because you have fewer of each. Also, the plastic seems much softer and more brittle than what I had as a kid. I think there are also too many smooth sloped pieces.
