BTS is the type of group that can be enjoyed in layers. If you like fun pop tracks that's fine but I really feel that people miss out on the essence of BTS if they aren't diving into the lyrics and the intent behind them.

The number of things the millenials have given up on is also what RM refers to in Dope: "Given up on 3? Given up on 5? How about...."
@Ahjusshi_Brown2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. What he’s literally saying is “3posaedae? 5posaedae? Hmm, since I like the number six, how about 6posaedae?” which, just like this explanation video explains, means “the generation that’s given up 3 things, the generation that’s given up 5 things, and the generation that’s given up 6 things.”

I still remember the moment I found out what that lyric meant because it like was my Epiphany moment understanding that BTS were deeper than I thought back in like 2016 or something

When the song or dance seems goofy, it’s very likely to be social commentary. Go Go is one of my favorites.
@amberpearce7102 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: this song connects to Dope. During RM’s verse in Dope he talks about (sorry idk the exact wording from the top of my head), “giving up on 3 and giving up on 5,” which connects to the different terms that kept adding things the younger generation would give up. Hopefully this made sense. lol BTS has very deep lyrics…if people just want to enjoy the music without looking up the lyrics and taking the time to understand them that is fine, however people are missing a HUGE part of BTS’s music… RM during one of his vlive’s talks about, “how lyrics are important and are written for us to read”…he talks about, “how of course how it sounds and the beat is important but aren’t the lyrics, just as or even more important? (Paraphrased)”. I honestly couldn’t agree more with him.

Is it just me or have yall also ever thought that the hip thrusts in the choreo means "fuck you" to the storks (older generation)?

Honestly, given the context of the song it would make since that they are at least there to emphasize that point if not convey it directly.

My in-laws kept saying they didn't understand why we couldn't make car payments and phone payments occasionally despite the fact that we both worked full-time so we just sent them are budgeting spreadsheet it had both of our incomes and pretty detailed tracking of all of our spending. They were shocked. I think they were expecting to see that we were way over spending on alcohol or Vacations or partying or something but our biggest expense was groceries aside from rent and car payments. They stopped bringing it up

Thank you - I always enjoy you both! I'm 66 and this means I'm a child of the 60s and the whole student protest movement, multiple economic depressions, and huge levels of unemployment in the UK. I loved early rap, but went off it when it became a different animal. But you can well imagine that this side of BTS is MINE. I don't know how many people realise that BTS' ongoing message is perhaps even more "revolutionary" than this. Korea (and probably Asia) is a very very conformist society : the even idea that ANYone should "love yourself" and afford your self more value than those voices telling you what to think, be, and do is incredibly powerful and subversive - and I think this is true wherever we are.

You are right those new to BTS look at the music video's and see hip hop or bop songs like butter or permission to dance and that is all they see. To be honest you really cant blame them that is a part of the normal music industry globally you dont know much about alot of the artists behind the scenes. Where as people are finding themselves both suprised and drawn to BTS because they have something to say and that in itself reaches out to people. So there is many aspects to BTS that people finding suprising. There is the BT Universe and the deep storyline. There is there charity work and army inspired charity support, there is the dance line, the rap line. The rap line itself has a very deep story to that as well, due to the fact that they were underground rappers in a idol industry where both were frowned upon. Underground rappers thought Kpop idols could not cut it and ones that changed from underground to kpop idols were sell outs. The idol rappers were frowned upon for not holding up to the normal beauty standards. So there is alot of conflict behind the scenes of what is going on within korea and within the music industry and that is why music storytelling is at its best with BTS.

HI!

9:30 I am 27 and when I was 23 I had to emigrate back to Mexico (I lived in Japan for a long time) due to the lack of economic stability (studied and worked three jobs, could barely afford an 11m^2 studio apartment and food) and mental health issues that were impossible to treat there due to the stigma and lack of support. I haven't been able to find a good job despite my qualifications and live in the same land as my family. It's been SO rough. SOME OF THE BEST SONGS FROM BTS THAT HAS A SOCIAL AND/OR POLITICAL COMMENTARY: - Bapsae (rich/poor, millennials/boomers) - Spring Day (Sewol Ferry Tragedy) - Am I wrong (political) - Paradise (mental health and race to success) - Spine Breaker (children breaking their parents backs just to be "trendy") - No more dream (debut song, your dream vs your parents' dream for you) - N.O. (rigid school system makjng mindless robots)
@KimmyGibson2 жыл бұрын
If what I've read is true, in order to move out from your parent's home into an apartment, a young person would have had to save thousands and thousands of dollars for 'key' money as a down payment on an apartment, not just one or two months rent in advance like here in the states....we're talking THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS. The monthly rent isn't too unusual, but getting the key money is the problem and some landlords will ask later for additional key money plus raise the rent. How can they save that much money just for an apartment? How would they ever save money for a home? I guess this is why generations of families stay together. AND, not to be forgotten, living together or not, the younger people must continue to 'obey' the wishes of the older generations.... 'filial piety'. As much as I love learning about Korean culture/society....there are times when, even at 64, I am at odds with their 'practices' and can completely understand why they have such a high numbers of suicides. Thankfully BTS is speaking out against some of the 'norms' and how damaging they can be. A good example is the students on the Sewol being told to stay put ... and they obeyed :(

Its not just working more. In korea and Japan they work 6 days a week and if salary you may have to work 10 or 13 hrs a day ...so they give up on relationships or even dating because have no time. And how are they supposed to have kids..thats why they have the lowest birth rate. Plus they just added a new law about overtime making it worse.
