This song was seriously so raw! When I listened to it the first time without the lyrics I was so hyped up and all but then I listened to the lyrics and woooww!! This song is so deep and the dance goes so well with it. It talks about losing your passion on something you love and how it feels like you died because of it. Such a deep message on such a good instrumental.

So judging from Jung's book and Yoongi's interlude this is my theory and interpretation: At first his shadows are preventing him from reaching the light and trying to control him, trying to keep him imprisoned. He fights with them for the majority of the video trying to break free from them. At the end you see them all doing the same moves, this is him embracing his shadows and becoming one with them, once he did that, his shadows actually help him rise and ascend towards the light. This was beautifully interpreted by MN, and it really captures the spirit and concept of the album, or perhaps part of it.

the reflection of dancers in the water, the words written on the walls, the cage, and him trying almost run away from people in black clothes, as well as the fact that there are 7 dancers. everything has a meaning. BTS just forced us to use our brain. i have never seen a black swan movie, but because of this mv and the song, i am more than willing to watch it. this is amazing. i am crying. and the fact that they are talking about "dancers death", they are talking about themselves as well, because they are artists. the consept of art and classical music, dance art reminds me of BTS 'blood, sweat and tears' as well as Jimin 'Lie'

I absolutely love this MV. I know everyone will have their own interpretation of the dance, but this is such a strong expression of fighting fear and the shadows you dwell in to accept one's self. Literally in the beginning following his shadows, letting them move him through life. Then struggling against them winning and losing battles. Finally breaking free, still having his guard up till he finds his strength to fight them once again to take control. Making them apart of him accepting his dark side so he can rise up and fly. Its beautiful!!

I like that they had the same type of laser light "cage" that was in Suga's Shadow video. I feel like they are telling the world we won't be caged, we won't conform to do what everyone else want's us to do. We will do our thing the way we want to. If we don't, then we will stop losing the excitement we have for out music and the passion will be gone... then it will no longer be BTS masterpieces' that we all love. I think the dancers represent music, the guy without the shirt represents bts. Music gives bts wings, but they also try to run away from it. At the ending music comes to bts again and gives them wings to go high. It basically talks about bts fearing that music isn't their thing anymore/doesn't make them happy anymore. I cried. Mainly because I relate so much to the lyrics. The lyrics was talking about every artist's nightmare, when the music or words stop making your heart race, when the creative flow stop, and when everything you create seems tasteless and colorless. Even the thought of it is scary, and I can only imagine how BTS feels with the pressure to deliver, and the fear that takes hold every time your stumped 'is this it? Is this the end?' The musicality of that piece!!!! Bruh, the dancing was so on point, I love how he (the shirtless) was downtrodden and beaten down at first, and when he had to fight his shadows so he can go out of that box of light, to become free, and then fighting them until they actually become him (the follow his movements) and then he is able to fly. Kind of a commentary of how we have to fight and then accept our shadow so we can become hold and soar.

If you noticed, right before this release, the opened up the CONNECT project and explained what the CONNECT project is. About different artists coming together to express their artistry for the world. Well they had the MN Dance Company perform for this as apart of the CONNECT project, to allow the art of dance be shown. It gives dancers a chance to shine. Is awesome. And the song is amazing. This resonates so much with their comeback trailer: SHADOW. Your shadow will always follow you & be part of you. Either you allow it to grow so big & let it swallow you whole OR make peace with yourself and accept that it's part of you. what I understood from the choreo is that there is a lot of symbolism of a bird trying to escape a cage but it’s being held back, and once it breaks free it needs to learn to use its wings and fly as it had never had the freedom to do it before. ironically, the things that were were seemingly keeping it in its cage were also the ones to help it fly. this could represent the creation of art feeling like a cage yet also oddly being the one thing to make you feel liberated.

The dancers - Music (Art) The guy without the shirt - BTS (Artist) This song to sum it up in simple words talks about the relationship between the art and the artist. The lyrics talk about how there comes a point in an artist's life when the love for their art fades away. The art no longer makes you feel emotions, you feel blank. You don't feel the passion, you don't feel anything. You sink and you reach the bottom of this dark pit. The one thing that you love, you don't feel that anymore. And when you reach rock bottom is when you realise that that's all you have, the art, or in this case music is all you have, Music is what makes you alive. The same thing that brings you down will bring you back up again because that's where your soul truly lies. And so you rise up again, the black swan in you rises and it's a cycle. Because that's what the relationship between art and the artist is. It's complicated, vulnerable and personal. This is shown perfectly in the video where you see the other dancers first bringing him down and him struggling back and forth trying to get out of the cage and their grasp. He then gets rid of them and is all alone and goes further down and reaches his darkest point. Thats when you see the other dancers following him again. He then pushes them away and finally gains control and the same dancers bring him back again and he soars and flies in the end. Showing that music lifted him up again. This is my opinion and interpretation of the lyrics and the video. But Gosh. What a masterpiece. I LOVE BTS.

So here we go.... my thoughts after having watching this about six times and read the lyrics fully...so the song is basically the boys talking about the fear they feel when they think about not being able to do what they love - make music, dance, perform as BTS. More so than that maybe the fear of not knowing when that time will come. I think the dancers represent a black swan collectively. The single shirtless dancer representing a more common white swan. Whatever narrative is happening in the swan’s life is compelling him towards becoming a black swan - whether he wants it or not - which is why the other dancers seem to control him. As the song and dance progress the swan starts to get a hold of himself and goes down the escalator willingly, maybe feeling like he doesn’t have a choice??? The lyrics talk about how they feel they are the bottom of the ocean, as if they are drowning in their fear maybe. However through the dance we can see a change in the swan. He now controls the other dancers as a oppose to them controlling him. He now shows a strength we didn’t see in the beginning. He’s embraced the fact that by excepting that he may be a black swan there may be a potential for more and the ending shot looks as if he is trying to fly or swim his way out from the bottom that he willingly walked into before when he wasn’t fully ready to embrace everything. So yes while it definitely gives off a sad, tragic vibe, I thinks there also a beauty about it towards the end, just like how in Interlude: Shadow explanation, they say Suga seems as if excepting the shadow part of himself will help make it easier (to cope, move forward, live).

My take on the 'Swan' is one who embodies an new idol in the industry: naïve, pure and needs nurturing. A swan is always to be graceful and poised; an idol must be 'perfect' in the eyes of the public. Due to the overwhelming expectations, this young and pure swan loses their spark---their passion. That sound you were talking about I think it's either a cello or a double upright bass (Leaning more toward the bass just because of how rich the sound was).

Oh my goodness!!!! I ALWAYS see things that remind me of past videos!!! When they first walked out and the sound was like walking, it reminded me of Not Today. Remember how Namjoon walked out. It was an empty building just like that!!!

The instrument you pointed out is most likely a Cello! In the strings family but it has a deeper and richer sound. It’s known for giving scores passion and bold emotion. I love the cello, I’ve played for 18 years now :)
