Julia Sosebee yeah this theory makes a lot of sense after watching burn the stage ep 7 where RM himself said that he feels that he has this fake persona that he shows to the public as "RM" but he is very different from "Namjoon." He was like "there's only so much you can show to the public" and I was like what are you saying boii??! But anyways, since he wrote the song, these thoughts of his are probably the message of this song. He even said that this song was written in one go with no rewriting or reviewing so that just shows how much he wanted to express his feelings about this. These thoughts/feelings are probably similar to that of other BTS members Edit: ep 6, sorry. Basically RM was talking about how he needs time to be himself, a normal adult "Kim Namjoon," a regular 24 year old, since he invests a lot into his identity as BTS and "RM" and etc. The most painful thing he said was "whenever I wear makeup & stand in front of the camera, I don't know to what extent I can be honest because giving ppl the opportunity/room to make controversies & interpretation is what makes a star." He even said "you don't have a choice but to have two identities." So he basically confirmed your theory. It'll be awkward though if V or RM explain this and it's something completely different 😂😭

My interpretation of the lyrics- When he decided to be a celeb he basically 'threw himself into the lake'. The lake can symbolize his alter self, the polished self that the public sees. Then the lake froze over, meaning that he was trapped in his false self. 'Have I lost myself or have I gained you'- has he lost his true self and gained his fake self. There is a 'phantom pain' that's pain that isn't real because even though he likes all this, somewhere in his mind it pains that he can't be his real self. He wishes that 'one spring day the frozen lake will melt' meaning that one day he'll be able to let go of his fake self and be himself. At the end, he's hidden behind a mask and his earring says 'loved'. He's loved but his mask is the one being loved, not his true self. That is it's fake love. The lyrics also have a connection to the story of Narcissus and it can also be connected to the entire storyline of bts universe. In short it's a lyrical gem created by the genius Kim Namjoon.

I think that even though they're happy in some ways, there's always the longing for normalcy. I love songs like this which make us think. I'm so looking forward to this album!

Its tradition for BTS which comeback trailer is the intro of their album and done by one member. They take turn and this time is V aka kim taehyung. This intro give me vibe like wings album which is where blood sweat and tears mv from. I love BTS dark vibe, slow songs. They are amazing for r&b. This song is so calming and soulful I really love it, their album drops May 18th and this will probably be the intro to it, BTS videos always have many theories behind them, i've heard some people say they think he's telling the story of Narsicuss who fell in love with his reflection and then drowned (because of the lyrics saying lake) I took it as he lost himself either in himself or someone else and he didn't have a voice so he wasn't free to be himself, I liked what Bam said about the mask at the end that makes sense too 👍 BTS videos always have a lot of symbolism and stories behind them so no one really knows what they're about exactly

I've seen a very nice interpretation that the song is about two egos, two sides of himself. In the lake he saw his face, he said he shouldn't have thrown himself away. Like, there're two sides which one is a fictional idol side and the other is true himself, real side. He gave up on his own voice, that's why reality is silent, the throat in sore and he isn't sure if his voice exist, he can't express himself because of the dominative V ego. He is wondering is he could have make a different choice. Taehyung always used to tell us about how much he want to be an artist, not just a performer, BTS's artistic project they're executing is pretty strict and it doesn't leave much space for themselves. BTS members treat this project like a mission which deserves sacrificing much other stuff. Like a catholic priest have to quit everything to serve properly to his god. Taehyung is dedicated but he has a huge artistic aspiration. For now he doesn't have the space to grow it. Generally it's a trailer for "Love Yourself" serie, for the part which will have a darker theme, also the main track will have "Fake love" title, so I guess "Singularity" is about discovering himself either way. The song is written by RM but he wrote it directly for Taehyung, so this time I'm a bit helpless to say which interpretation is more true.

The song speaks on the conflict between the person you actually are vs. The mask you wear in public. That's what's genius about the song and the dance combined. The song is slow and flows evenly whereas the dance is jagged and rough, yet again elaborating on the struggle and conflict between the two personalities.

I love that you guys took the time to discuss the song and video. It’s a very expressive song one theory is that its about having to be a star and giving up your freedom, ideals, and voice as a singer. In the Korean music industry most groups are strictly monitored so they don’t date, use the internet to post things and overall do anything that’s frowned upon. The video is basically saying their true personalities are being suppressed by the fame.

the song has a lot of references to a greek story of Narcissius, a man who loved himself so much and would stare into his reflection everyday until he tried to get too close, fell in the frozen lake, and drowned. a lot of lines relate to this story, while part of it tells of objectification and narcissism. the line “i buried my voice for you” comes off as trying to reach a goal of perfection people have created for him. another factor of the song is confusion, sexualization, self loathing and regret. as the beginning of the song tells, he’s waking up to sounds of this breaking, which this sound is breaking ice, in which ice symbolises the frozen lake in which Narcissius drowned in. the regret part of this is regretting how much time is put into self obsession. along with this obsession comes sexualization and confusion. and another part that comes along with this song is heartbreak, realisation and oppression. the end of the song hints at the realisation that nothing has gone the way he planned initially, which he experiences heartbreak, and oppression (trying to hide his feelings) and the parts where the song hints at loss of voice, it basically means that he wants to know if what his voice has become is what it really is. that might sound confusing but everything he says has become so twisted with all his emotions that he can hardly even understand what hes trying to say and if he really means what he says. the line “i shouldnt have thrown myself away” is regret, again playing in with the Narcissius story, regretting his self obsession. the ending really hints at him being confused, guilty, angry, depressed, etc because all along he had no idea that he couldn’t get what he wanted. the overall story is based on four stages. the first stage is obsession, the second stage is regret and confusion, the third stage is heartbreak and the fourth stage is oppression and guilt. yeah. thats pretty much what it means

Singularity was written by RM specifically fot V to sing on this comeback trailer for their latest album, Love Yourself: Tear. a comeback trailer is an introduction to the whole album. My interpretation of the song was that I think the lyrics are trying to talk about how V wanted to hide his true self so he threw his true self in the lake and it froze over. It's about losing himself through self rejection. In the beginning when he rejected his own hand. The mask represented his different faces that were not his real self. Yasssss I feel like I’ve watched this mv five million times lol but the album is called love yourself: tear and the song is called singularity. It’s most likely the intro for the album. Ughhhhh I’m so excited my heart can’t take it lol but I definitely feel like this song has a deep meaning. In my opinion I feel like this song may have something to do with mental illness like depression. Not being able to speak or express in an emotional sense you start to lose yourself and you’re not sure what’s real or not. If you are actually who say that you are. The lake could be a comfort zone (who knows I’m just taking a guess lol) and I think that Tae was talking to himself throughout the song. I love these lyrics. This is what i got from them, (the sound that he's hearing is the end of the relationship or the end of whatever the situation is that he's in, and he's basically saying you can't leave or this cant end, i've given up so much of myself for you/this that i don't even know who i am anymore, (hence the masks) so don't say anything, don't end it yet, things will get better a spring day will come again). The name of their new album is "Love Yourself: Tear." It's the continuation of their last album "Love Yourself: Her." This song is called "Singularity." It's the intro for the new album coming out on May 18th. Every BTS album has an intro track that just features 1 member, that's why this is just V. It is released early with it's own music video to give us an idea of the sound and look of the new album. The title track for this album is called "Fake Love." And this album is supposed to a lot darker than we're used to seeing from them. We believe this is about loving someone or something so much that you lose who you are, sacrificing and changing everything you are, to try to get this person or thing only to discover you've lost everyone and everything including yourself. ARMY believes this is what the new album is going to be about.

I think he had killed himself after hiding his true self for so long and now he doesn't know why he still feels pain and what should he have done before he died, he's all alone now. What I got from the video is that Tae took the real him, and hid it in this metaphorical frozen lake so to speak, and eventually it will thaw and reveal the true him. After I listened to this song at least a hundred times lol, I've noticed that every phrase is different, you know in the songs usually there's always one phrase that repeats one or more times...but here all the phrases are different like the title says "Singularity". And when I read the lirycs...I don't know but i have the feeling that he's talking to himself, you know when he says: I run to the lake and I see myself mirrored in it- (I don't really remember the lyrics) then there's that part where he says: reach out my hand to cover the mouth- I think that he's talking to himself mirrored in the lake. It's as if in this song there are two V but in reality there's only one "Singularity. I mean it's like the icy lake is the wall that separetes them.
