So, I'm a first grade teacher, and I share lots of BTS vids with my kids. I showed them this, and tried to talk about what it might mean. A six year old girl said....."He's angry because he got too much of a good thing." I was like....you're a genius.

First of all, it's amazing that you are a first grade teacher. Thank you so much for that. I don't know if you hear it enough. And it's awesome that you aren't afraid to show them such a song, they can really grow from it. Lastly, she is a genius. A lot of grown up don't really get it. Kids have this ability to look beyond.

one thing bts has is ART. i've been avoiding submitting bts recommendations bc i never knew where to start bc of how much variety they have but with what you've reacted to so far, i'm glad it's going in this direction. this has to be one of my favourite trailers they've done aside from serendipity. suga has dealt with so much in general but it wasn't until their rapid growth once they started getting more popular where he started to deal with demons he never experienced before. seeing him open up about these struggles always have made me emotional. honestly, knowing how much bts in general went through hurts me sometimes bc all i want for them is happiness and to be content. at this point i'm just rambling bc i have a soft spot for bts as they are the longest group i've supported and loved fjdkdjdkddks but i look forward to more bts reactions in the future bc they really seem to be up your alley in terms of what messages they put out and their high quality production in everything they do!!!!! ♡

The thing with Suga (who created and performed this song) is that he tells story by using instrumental and music itself at the same level as lyrics and all of it is connected together into cohesive work. As he always writes his own songs and usually produces them as well, his music is very personal. I recommend you to listen to his solo projects outside of BTS. For example, Agust D - The Last or Agust D - Daechwita

New to your channel due to the BTS content. Love your thoughtful reaction. Amazing how deep you went with it, which is so appropriate for most BTS songs. The whole Map of the Soul concept is based on psychologist Carl Jung and his concept of persona and ego and shadow. Everyone has their shadow self they hide from the world and until you face your shadow and own it you can never grow into the self you want to be. There is a behind making of this. He has so much involvement in his songs and MVs.... the him in the white outfit is the version of him from before their debut, he is reflecting back (I.e. the mirrors) at the version of himself he used to be... do you noticed the chording in those measures are a reversed sample, like looking backwards, ??? And when he is the present him the chording flips to forward facing. The version of him toward the end is his shadow self and him talking to each other and acknowledging each other and that they are up parts of the whole him. 💜🤯💜 Hope you check out more BTS. They have a song “Born Singer” that uses the J Cole “Born Sinner” melody and theme for their own self-reflective version of their story, I highly recommend the live performance with English subs. Thanks!!! Edit: link to the Born Singer performance that has English subs built in: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpS4gmaie5iShZo

The shadow saying "I am you, and you are me." The fact that you understood that even before that part popped up is amazing. There are so many reactors that don't pay close attention and miss that all together, they don't even try to put the pieces together, and if they are trying to understand the puzzle, it goes right over their heads. So their theories are far and wide reaches that make no sense.

These are Suga's real feelings which he wrote and put in this song. The shadow is his inner self, and his fears. Shadow is black clothed. The public figure, rich and famous Suga is white clothed. There is a conflict between the two. In the end both of them reach a state of acceptance. The inner fears subside and face the place he is in now, and is comfortable in it.

I've been binge watching your BTS reaction videos and I realized our journey is similar. I'm a 30 years old former metalhead ARMY from Turkey. I've never liked the mainstream " ass shaking " pop music from the start and been in constant search for art and meaning. I had a huge prejudice for K-POP before BTS as well. But as I go I realised that this is not just a pop music. They have vast genres of music in their discography and their music videos are literal art. In my early days of being an ARMY I've experienced an emotional roller coaster of feelings. It was like I had a plug in my soul and BTS pulled that plug to set free my hidden, mostly repressed emotions. Quite an experience. I appreciate your open mind and sincerity towards them. Please keep supporting BTS as artists. Stay safe and be happy

This song is the interlude of the album "Map of the Soul 7" which is named after the book about Swiss philosopher, Carl Jung's, theory of Persona, Shadow, and Ego. The first half is Suga trying to fight the darkness in himself and the second have of the song is his shadow self speaking to Suga. Also... Suga usually produces his own tracks or at least co-produces.

My favorite thing about BTS is the word play they do in multiple languages. For instance, “higher higher” is “wiro, wiro” and then he added “vertigo” in English for it to rhyme with the Korean word while still keeping with the message of how as he gets higher, it gets harder for him. It’s THIS that makes me love BTS’s rap style. My parents are Korean immigrants and though I don’t speak much Korean, I understand it and it makes my appreciation of BTS’s work that much greater, especially since I love studying poetry.

Kpop in general is teaching alot of individuals "How To " and it's mind-blowing to so many..😉Whether is style, choreo, production, lyricism or just how to make bank..BTS specifically has shown alot of folks that perseverance, hard work and passion for their craft can win the hearts of millions!! They can potentially make amazing changes to those who let them in. You are exactly right. Just give it an opportunity. Kpop to me = It's art. It's grace. It's pride. It's commitment.. And on a different note: Can we appreciate this young man's channel and the Quality Content we get from it, to include the very in depth and analytical breakdown we receive. If you were to delve deeper into BTS or even just Suga alone it will blow your mind. Many of their lyrics and themes are connected. Suga has referenced or even quoted in at least 4 songs that I know of including their first ever debut song in 2013 about "I want big house, big cars and big rings". So as his career has progressed he is now reflecting on now he has all that, now what? Suga's 1st mixtape from 2016 called Agust D where Suga goes by the name Agust D (SUGA spelled backward and DT b/c he is from Daegu Town) is a pure masterpiece. He literally wrote, rapped and produced every single track. He pours so much soul into his music and it shows. Listen to The Last by Agust D and you will be left speechless b/c he pours his heart, soul and vulnerability into that track. Now all that being said he can also spit FIRE onto tracks see Agust D, Daechwita and any of the cyphers (cypher 2 and 3 are my fave). I can write an essay on Suga and he's not even my bias that's how amazing he is.

If you watch a lyric video or even just listen to the album version there is a full length version of this song that includes some lines that are so so powerful! I highly recommend searching it up along with the lyrics because they tie into the whole theme of being alone at the top and questioning why you aren't enjoying your fame because that is ultimately what you were looking for. This song is so incredibly deep and the video kind of shows the two sides of him. The one that rose to the top and became famous and his shadow. Suga is also known to whisper "Suga" in most if not all of the songs but this time there is no whisper which most people have theorized to mean that it is neither Suga nor Agust D speaking it is Min Youngi (Suga's real name). "All the things he said about wanting to be the top is what he wanted. But now that what he wanted actually happened, he never knew it was going to be like this so he is scared. The shadows are their image, as IDOLS not THEMSELVES. The cameras symbolize that they are always watched, and cant be themselves. The moment the beat switched up and the screen went red, yoongi came out of the crowd of shadows. When it says "I am you and you are me." Thats his SHADOW talking. Saying that he cant fight it. Suga is Yoongi, and Yoongi is Suga. People only see him for Suga and that he wishes he can be himself." (this part was taken from an ARMY's explanation on another video). Last thing he says "don't let me shine" because shining equals more light and more light equals bigger shadows and he says that the shadows are becoming "monsters" which in turn is terrifying to him. Hope this helps your understanding a bit more! Truly love this song and all their work and can't wait for you to react to more!

It's such a coincidence that KZbin recommended me this video of yours, because earlier today I was thinking about how prejudiced people can be over kpop without even trying to listen to it. I started to listen to kpop recently, a few months ago, and it's enough for me to notice how deep the lyrics can be. This is something I truly respect. Music has saved me so many times, and this year it was BTS that saved me. Some people may not understand, but if they really took some time to listen to it and search for the lyrics, they would like it as well. By the way, I love the way you talk about music with so much passion. I get what you say and I feel how you feel about music. Thanks for sharing with us! This video was the best thing for me today.

You actually picked up a really cool meaning, here are some deep psychology information to add to your reflexion if you want to (it's gonna be long lmao) : First of all, it's important to know that BTS' message has always been to love ourselves, to speak ourselves and to see beauty in every individual. They have always included this message in their music. BTS' Map of the Soul album series is heavily inspired by a book from a psychologist called Carl Jung (the book's name is "Map of the Soul" too) Carl Jung developped a theory which argues that our subconscious is divided into 3 parts called persona, shadow and ego. In order to go through the process of knowing and loving ourselves, he believes we have to explore every parts. 1) Persona : persona consists in all the "personnality masks" we put on ourselves daily to deal with different social situations and people, personas are the faces you show to the world (for example you'd have different personas depending if you're hanging out with your grandma or your best friend). BTS' first Map of the soul album is called "Map of the Soul : persona". The leader RM wrote the intro for the album called "intro : persona" in which he asks himself "Who the hell am I?" I believe he portrays the feeling of being lost between all these personas he has and wandering which one is his true self. It must be the first step of the individualisation process. Btw I also think the title track "Boy With Luv" portrays the persona that BTS shows to their fans, kinda criticizing the fact that idols always have to be joyful and bright even when they're going through something, I think Boy With Luv is the definition of this happy and carefree persona they constantly need to keep while being on camera. Although BTS themselves don't really respect this as they've always appeared sincere and shared even their darkest thoughts and feelings with Army. 2) Shadow : the shadow is the part of ourselves that we deny and want to hide. It's all our fears, our failures but it can also be some personnality traits or original thoughts that we hide since our youngest age in order to fit into the society norms, to be more accepted by others. This brings us to their second Map of the Soul album called "Map of the soul : 7" and its "interlude : shadow" written by Suga. Notice how it's not an intro, it's an interlude, it follows RM's reflexion in his persona intro in the previous album. Suga basically talks about what his dreams were back then. But now that he's on top, like you said, he's realising he wasn't prepared for it, he didn't expect to feel this lonely. And then he makes a parallel with his own shadows, saying that success doesn't prevent his shadows from following him. The last auto-tune rap part stands out and portrays his shadows talking to him "I am you, you are me". I guess it means that no matter how hard he tries denying the sides of himself he believes are bad, they'll never disappear and will always be a part of him. With this song, he invites us to embrace our shadows as true parts of ourselves instead of fighting against them. 3) Ego : ego is what makes us unique, it's the identity built with everything we have experienced in our lifes. It's also the positive image we have of ourselves, what we believe we're capable of doing. The Ego is limited by the Shadow's doubts and insecure thoughts. But having too much Ego can also give us the wrong image of ourselves. BTS' third rapper J-Hope sings "outro : Ego" in "Map of the soul : 7" which follows Suga's interlude and closes the series. It's a really happy and positive song in which he remembers his past, his struggles and thinks about his future. The boys really take us through the journey of knowing and accepting ourselves while telling us their personal storys through their lyrics Actually I lied when I said 3 parts in this theory because they're actually 5... But only Persona, Shadow and Ego have been clearly seen in BTS' concept. Anyway I literally spent an hour writing this so I'll stop :') But it's not even half of how deep their concept goes, there's so many references everywhere, they literally put so much thought in every single thing they release it's crazy, it's art. I hope this was interesting, I had no idea psychology could be this cool before knowing the boys. [Keep in mind that this is only my opinion, based of what I took from the songs and MVs and what I read from others and about Carl Jung. I probably made some mistakes or covered some parts too quickly to do justice to this complex concept] Anyway thanks for sharing your thoughts with us Linton, always appreciate it !

Now you must listen to Intro: Persona (RM’s solo) and Outro: Ego (J Hope’s solo) from the same album series (Map of the Soul). The three songs combined give an overview of the amazing story being told in the Map of the Soul album series. They are also all bangers and art. Thanks for this great reaction and everything you said about listening without prejudice and the depths you find in this music 💜💜💜

Great comments going more in depth to this but I would add that Map of the Soul 7 is a complete album based on the psychologist Carl Jung's Map of the Soul. RM' Intro: Persona 🔥 followed by this and then J-Hope's Outro: Ego really go into depth about resolving these three parts of our psyche but reflecting each member's actual personal journey. Good reaction! Thanks.

I did go down your list for other BTS reactions and was happy to see some Bigbang, G-Dragon, Taeyang. That's actually the only other Korean band I have ever listened to, actually because of BTS's Jungkook...lol. Anyway, even though they're classified as 2nd gen I think they are the OG Kings and G-Dragon reigned as King of K-Pop until BTS's Jimin took the crown, Urban Dictionary certified. One more Bigbang I would recommend is Fantastic Baby which seems like a slapping club song but the Fandom Wiki goes into great depth about how it details every facet of the human condition and what each one of the 5 kings represents while also being a slap in the face to the government and societal constraints. They were the first to successfully export KPop not only to the rest of Asia but the US and break into Billboard as well as gaining the freedom to write and produce, something which BTS was allowed to do from the start. I'm ARMY but I stan Bigbang.

I have been saying the same thing about western music. Since I discovered BTS and Kpop I am hooked. So much artistic talent goes in to everything they do. I love your channel and how you are able to break down the lyrics and explain them. Sometimes I don't catch everything and you amaze me. Brilliant Mind you have. Thank You!

BTS are reaching a level that is not just a new thing for them but for the whole asian music industry, so they don't have anyone to ask for advice, or to learn from. They mentioned that they felt lost and alone, and it would be really scary.

The grunginess ofr the switch also symbolised his persona, his ego, his shadow. If u read the lyric at that moment, he says "You are me, I am you, We are one, and we will clash" this, his ego says to himself(the him through the earlier part of the video, u also realise their voices are different too)

One fun fact about the video and the lyrics, the graphic "O!RUL8,2?" is the name of their first extended album which was released in 2014. And in that album as well as in some other songs you can hear SUGA rap some variation of "I wanna a big house, big cars and big rings." Their music has so many layers and when you know their discography, the songs definitely hit you on another level because you have a much deeper understanding of them.

BTS love art and have such an appreciation for it the red on the doorways and the on the hallway is actually inspired by an art piece called Svayambh by Anish Kapoor. It is a giant sculpture made out of pigmented wax that losses bits of its self going through the door way. The meaning of Svayambh means "created out of itself". I think that Suga lost bits of his past self in order to rise to fame but in doing so he created a new version of himself, and is growing as a person, he is learning to accept himself even though sometimes its hard

I agree 100% on everything u said about the artistry of BTS and that is one of the main reasons I stan them. I like music with meaning, actually talking about something and actual substance! The fact the can do any genre and it's meaningful and true art, is everything! If I can't feel your music and know u feel it 2 I don want it ya know...BTS does that and so much more for me. Stan BTS it is good for your health and well being PERIOD! 💜🙆‍♀️

The main instrumental and melody of the song was an intro song of their past album HYYH or known as The most beautiful moment in life. This song has a direct connection to their past albums as it tells about their worries for the past 7 yrs. The rapline's solo was a tribute for their past (intro) songs. Persona was a bit remixed of RM's intro song in ORUL8 2! Album, Shadow from their HYYH album and Ego was from their debut trailer.

Suga is kind of *thee* rags to riches story in bts- his parents didn't want him to be an artist, people said it was selfish of him to pursue music because it would ruin his family. He just went under surgery from an accident he had from being a bike delivery boy before he was famous, he sometimes had to decide if he wanted to ride the bus home or eat what he wanted and walk home for several hours... he has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder, still feels like he has to posture and "prove" he's the best and tough even though he's made it now, but also he realizes how empty that is. Unlike stereotypical toxicically masculine "rockstars" he's not afraid to admit all the bravado is kind of shallow.

And therefore, to reach your highest art, you face the darkness, criticism, and fear. You should read Map of the Soul which is based on Jung Philosophical.
