Suga never wanted to be an Idol, he wanted to be behind the scene writing music and producing , but not performing. So he struggled with being a performer and with his social anxiety it was very hard for him. It took him along time to to come to peace with how his career came to be. Suga is a genius.. He doesn't just write and compose this He produces it, that's what makes him special.. He creates his own beats.... The way he switches the beat, his voice, his emotions, his lyrics.. Its just crazy.. He is a true musician.. I can't wait for his next comeback..as suga or Agust d it doesn't matter. Actually if you look closely, in this mv, its only "O! RU 82?" (without the L) (around 0:34 in the mv and 3:10 here) and 82 is the code number for Korea. So technically it could be read as "Oh are you Korean?" like how haters mock them for being Korean.

The Map of the Soul album connects with Carl Jung's Map of the soul psychological concepts. The shadow is basically the subconscious of one's mind and Suga made this song according to it. The bridge part is when the shadow talks to him and says, " I am you and you are me, and that we coexist together. You can definitely find more explanations around youtube.

Even in BTS, he thought he'd perform for 2 years and then become producer, like that the was price he had to pay. To be here 8 years down the line, it must be hard. I think Suga is my bias. He’s like a scalpel on a track. Sharp, tight, precise. Just cuts through all the rest of the sound. And he’s so creative. The thing I like most about him is just how honest and introspective his lyrics are. I think his music, more than any of the others, really tries to take a hard look at who he actually is and who he wants to be, including the stuff that’s not so pretty. He doesn’t romanticize and he doesn’t look away. Reading his lyrics makes me want to be more thoughtful about myself in that way.

So this year they came on a Korean talkshow “You quiz on the block” and they talked about their journey and how they felt about their success(they talk about it in other videos too). Their dream at first was to just get first place in the korean music shows, and have their own concert. They accomplished that and thought they would just have some fame and start going down like most kpop groups do, but as Suga said, they “were suddenly called to the billboards”. They became the first Korean artists to perform at the American music awards, and since they were the first, they had no people to ask for advice - what kind of mental attitude should have in these kinds of situations and stuff like that - so they felt like they were “in the dark”. Suga said that he doesn’t get nervous a lot when performing on stage, but at the AMAs he got really nervous, because he “knew what this stage meant for them (and just all of Korea)”. After the performance that day he cried in his hotel room because it wasn’t what he wanted. He didn’t want to be in such a pressuring situation. And he also knew that would just be the start of everything, and that pressure wouldn’t be leaving them soon. As he quotes, “You need to be able to see part of the ground to feel like your flying, but once you’re in the clouds, you can’t feel it”. Also as Rm said “It was like we were all riding a air balloon, but the balloon just keeps going up up into the air, through the stratosphere, thermosphere, and into space, so it’s pretty scary. When we got onto the ride, we never thought it would get so high. We thought it would rise, slowly fall and land again.” That AMA performance was on November, 2017. They had a really hard time after that and even thought about disbanding but eventually made up their minds to keep going. At the 2018 mama music awards they cried a lot making their speech. Everyone thought their win was obvious, but to bts, the award probably meant a lot to them thinking about their hard times after the AMAs. At those times they told their company they needed a break so finally in 2019 autumn, they had their first long vacation (1 month) after debuting. They got refreshed after that break, and eventually they wanted to perform more because they realized the preciousness of being able to. They were just doing things they loved and were good at, but all the things about their effects on the Korean economy, and how they helped raise the national reputation was very pressuring for them, even though they were thankful and honored. And, as more famous you get, the more hard it is to make sincere relationships. Jimin said “If I want to have friends next to me, it felt like I endlessly had to pay a price for it”. Also, it’s extremely difficult to have a private life as everyone knows. Every little thing they say can make the news, so they have to think carefully before saying a word. And racism was a hard thing for them too, when they first came to America (it still happens these days but less than before). Like these things I mentioned above there are very tough sides of having so much fame, and I think Suga put those things as ‘shadows’ in this song. I’m glad because they said they have been able to more freely enjoy this ride more, after those times, even if they still feel pressured.

This is from the album Map of the Soul 7, which is based off of Carl Jung's philosophy about the three aspects that make up a person's essence: Persona (Intro by RM), Shadow (Interlude by Suga), and Ego (Outro by J-Hope). ORUL82 (Oh? Are You Late, too?) is the name of one of their earliest albums. You should really listen to the MotS 7 album from beginning to end since it's an entire concept album. You'll also get to hear solos from the vocal line: Filter (Jimin), Moon (Jin), Inner Child (V), and My Time (JK). I think it's important to point out that there is a difference between solo songs FOR BTS albums vs. their solo work. Solos for BTS will still be pertinent to the artist singing, but it's not necessarily THEM... if that makes sense; they are singing a song as part of the concept whereas their solo work is entirely THEM from lyrics to production. He performed this "live" for the first time this past October for their online live-streamed concert, Map of the Soul ON:E.

a masterpiece. the line "i run but the shadows follows me, as dark as the light's intense" reminds me of one of his poem he wrote in 2017 for the members. I'll include the entire poem: Title: What A Relief It’s already been five years since we debuted. We were just boys with many dreams. We had nothing, but now we have many things. We were only dreaming, but now we are the dream for someone. Life is full of choices and regrets. I’m scared and so are we. We dreamed of flying high up in the sky, but it’s too high and cold. It’s hard to catch our breath. The brighter the light is on us, the bigger the shadow. What a relief that we have seven members. What a relief that we have each other. "The brighter the light is on us, the bigger the shadow". I believe he refers to the same thing in this song. That being too successful has its own consequences to them. Yes, you are right. its about accepting those consequences. They've chased their dreams, they are way high up there, and its scary and he's afraid, but not accepting those consequences won't take them anywhere. The aggresiveness towards the end kinda represent that he is the one being aggressive about wanting those success, so face it and accept all the consequences that comes with it. As much as they willingly thrive to be successful, thats how much they had to willingly accept what comes with those success.

Yes, I am sure with many artists after they become successful, they fear of loosing their achieved fame & fall or feeling emptiness even though they finally got everything they ever dreamed of. That's why many of them get depend on alcohol, sleeping pills, antidepressants or drugs to deal with fear and insecurity. BTS members did have this heavy pressure too back in 2018 and thought of disbanding. They did mention that they talked about them being in top is not going to be forever. After they talked, cried and thought it over together and came to accept the terms that one day they will land (Suga used the word landing) and will prepare for it when the time comes by keep performing and writing music.

Suga is talking about his shadow self that you already recognized as greed. His shadow wants more and more, more fame, more money, more everything but deep inside he knows that's not him and he's scared of this side because sometimes it seemed to control him that's why he said "don't let me shine" because the bigger the fame, the bigger the shadow and greed which he doesn't want to feel. The text says O!RUL8,2? (Oh Are You Late Too) which is their 2013 album. In MOTS: 7 rapline sampled some of their older songs because this album is them looking back at their 7years journey. The start of the song is just him repeating what he wanted when he first started. Now that he has it all he tells us what it really is like to achieve it all, be at the top. The more the spotlight shines on him, the bigger his shadow grows. Like you said " The higher you come, the further down it is to the bottom when you fall". Suga has repeatedly said in past that he is afraid of falling, but if the members and army are together then he's not afraid of landing. According to him, you can take of again once you land which isn't the case if you fall. Outro: Ego - Jhope. Keep in mind that the persona, shadow and ego all make up the map of the soul, according to Carl Jung's concepts and are all linked together. The short films in the wings era and their songs correalate to the bts storyline and concepts of evil, temptation, greed and innocence and are not necessarily their real life. Although I do think their songs are related to their real life and are very personal - especially Suga's songs. They're always personal. The Map of the soul era is a lot more personal - each of the vocal line's songs are about themselves and their struggles. The rap line's songs are all linked to each other. We are bulletproof: the eternal was written as a tribute to their fans and all that they have gone through. However, the choreography for their group songs in this album are absolutely CRAZY.

Suga is insane for this because he revisits the siren sound at the end of the song that was in their first album I believe, and this is their entire motif in their Map of the Soul 7 album. Both “persona” and “ego” by RM and JHope respectively do the same thing.

i appreciate these lyrics because not only if you are an idol or worldwide famous or under the kind of pressure that brings you can relate to them. just anyone who has struggled with depression or anxiety or impostor syndrome, can understand that only when you are feeling better is when you see how bad you were at your worst. when you are the proudest of yourself is when you fear the most going back to your low moments. you obviously dont want to go back to your "shameful" "weakest" self, but it is so present in your mind that sometimes you let that fear rule you even if you are at a better point. i really like suga because he talks about these things very normal for people with mental health issues and he does it openly, and that takes a lot of courage when he says i wanna be... and he leaves it blank i always think, i wanna be okay. love your reactions and your insight into their songs too

I think he was just comparing his life as Min Yoongi who have a lot of dreams and that dream came true in the form of his public persona as Suga(BTS).He explained it before in 2018 FESTA,in where all of the members suffered depression and talked about disbandment,that he was afraid of how far Suga of BTS have achieved and just by thinking of how big is the pressure made him depressed.As much as he wanted to live his life as Min Yoongi he knew that it will not be simple.His two personas are connected that he can't do what he pleased without affecting the other one,so he just accepted and live with it.O!RU L8 2! was one of their earlier album.

If you watch their interviews and documentaries you will understand why, Suga said he wants to be a successful producer but not an artists/idol performing on stage. He originally auditioned in Bighit to become a producer but debuted as an idol that’s why early on he falls to depression and has social anxiety while performing. He came a long way and now at peace with himself, I believe he is one of the truest person/artists that I have watched. He is more happy and bright nowadays and continuously growing as an artist.

Note, Suga wanted to make lots of money, but he didn’t want fame (very smart). He had huge social anxiety and just wanted to compose and produce. I think it’s his first mixtape on which he speaks of trying to erase the memories of one of the early performances where he just hid out in the bathroom and stared at the mirror. He ended up going to a psychiatrist and his folks came into town to go with him. There was a lot of trouble between him an his parents because he came to Seoul to write music. Suga has quite a story. He talks of drinking so he could overcome anxiety just to interact with the other members. There is more on and by Suga if you look.
