Y’all should react to spine breaker explained. It explains what, people who are not from Korea, might not understand

What a great reaction and conversation. I looove when a reaction turns into a discussion/dialogue reflecting on the music and lyrics. I believe BTS' point is not that you should never splurge, but just don't break your parents spines doing it - like, get a job yourself and spend your own hardearned money. Then it feels better too. Just like your point! Spine Breaker is brilliant! BTS to a risk, bc maybe some of the younger fans wouldn't agree or feel offended, yet BTS always find the message more important. They did the same/similar with "Pied Piper" and the more political song like "Am I Wrong", "Baepsae", "N.O" and "No More Dream" etc.

The spine breaker song satirizes a phenomenon in Korean society. It happened when hundreds of thousands of won padded jackets were popular in Korea. The brand's padding jacket was popular among high school students, and there was a culture of discrimination between students wearing it and students not wearing it, and as a result, parents lined up to buy the brand's padding jacket during the department store's opening, and there was a lot of social criticism. Most of BTS, who had the social phenomenon after their debut, were high school students and made their thoughts about the social phenomenon into a song.

There's a saying in Korea, "Spine's bent," which means someone works so hard that his spine is bent. It reminds elderly people whose appearance is getting off the straight symbolizing their hard work for their children. From here, the word "deung-gol"" easily refers to parents' life.

As someone in their 20's.. and been an army for about 2 years.. BTS really made me reflect alot about myself. Not just through their songs but also when I hear their conversation, or speeches. Also on how they treat each other and other people as well. They show me how to take care of myself and how to take care to the people I value/important to me. *Hugs is important* learned from Jimin 😅💜

BTS isn't against buying expensive things, what they want to say is that you shouldn't demand their parents to buy them those things. Instead, they should work to earn things, or else they are satisfied with having their daily bread. They also mention that if they use expensive things, it is not because they ask their parents, but because they have worked for it themselves. This song came out when BTS were young so they themselves were living that feeling.

That‘s why I love bts so much! I just love how they cover so many topics in their music. And it’s so authentic and real. Their early music was not perfect but it’s so authentic because you just KNOW that it’s them who wrote the lyrics, you know?

Others have clued you into the message this songs conveys but when you’ve found out what it’s all about you might enjoy watching them making the mv for this. They did it all themselves while in a hotel on tour. Then watch a stage performance. BTW V’s mum bought him a North Face jacket when he went to Seoul so he wouldn’t look poor. She bought him a red one though so he stood out anyway.

You may check also their Spine Breaker MV where all the members made this MV while they were in their hotel room in Chile. The making was so much fun as you can see them enjoying their stuff and just having fun. The song is about social issues. I also included the link for the explanation of the song and the MV itself. This song is during an era where BTS are talking abt peer pressure (amongst youth) to look cool and be "accepted" eventho they couldn't afford it (thus parents breaking their spine just so they could fulfill their kids wishes in order to avoid them facing peer pressure or being bullied or outcasted). There was this trend before where your "status" is raised if you wear the n*rth face padded jackets because ppl know how much they cost, but BTS questions this with "is it worth your parents breaking their spines to earn that money just to buy one heck of an expensive jacket (that probably cost them their earnings)?" Of course if you haven't been through it you can't say nothing much. It isn't exactly a "disease" or "dis-ease" of the modern world, I think this is part of what happens living in a society. My notes may be lacking here so feel free to add or correct any errors or misinformation.

My brothers and i weren't super into things, and my mother was awesome in searching for things in garage sales. We never wanted for anything, we never felt lacking in anyway because we don't really care for things. And we weren't jealous of each other too, i mean if there was money and my mom bought games for my brother, we share it, and that goes with books for me and toys for other brother. My brother lived in a dump for college, and my other brother rode a super old motorbike to school and i rode with him,and we never felt like we had to be ashamed for it..... And that formed our attitude toward things when we are adults. 😅

In a capitalist world, you literally need to break your spine to earn, and many Asian parents are known for working really hard in order to provide. So this song is like a reprimand or a rebuke for kids who have a privileged mentality, and who lack sensibilities because of envy or peer pressure.

Love your reaction and personalization of the message. I second you about teaching our kids to serve and not be caught in the mentality of negative consumerism. I love watching reactions to BTS that focus on their voices, their music, the references in their MVs, and the lyrics of their songs.

💜🇧🇷💜love the message from this song and, like they said, it’s nothing wrong to have nice things as long you work to get them and not breaking somebody’s spine to have them.
