That's what V got his inspiration to write a song. Please react to Winter Bear dedicated to his grandma who passed away when they have the concert in Manila, Philippines. BTS rarely has a song about a relationship in respect to romance... it's usually about human relationships in general including societal relationships or self-love, etc. V wrote about his hardships during the early part of 2020. He wanted to deal with the "heaviness" of his thoughts & emotions. He composed this song initially all in English for his mixtape but then changed back to Korean lyrics when the group decided to put it in their "BE" album. It's melancholic poetry... the lyricism & melody is fantastic! It's my fave song from "BE" 💜

BTS have MANY songs about romantic relationships, I wish people would stop spreading this misinformation. BTS has followed themes and concepts throughout their careers. The last 'theme' (besides BE) was about individualism, which is why there were no songs about romantic relationships, because it was about discovering themselves. But even just the theme/concept before that 'Love Yourself' had many romantic songs on the HER album. I'm very confused over why people try to claim they don't have romantic songs.

It's really up to individuals to think about it themselves. It's not wrong to think the song is romantic and it's also not wrong to think the song is not romantics because most lyrics by BTS are universal.

@@arikim69 I think it really depends on the song. Songs from the School Trilogy are pretty exclusively about romantic relationships, saying things like “boyfriend/girlfriend”, “dates”, “kissing”, “asking out”, “daydreaming of you” etc. They have many songs that are explicitly about romantic relationships. I agree that many songs are up for interpretation, but I don’t like when people try to claim BTS “rarely” has romantic songs when they VERY much do.

@@ipurpleu1668 I think you explained you're point well, and you're right. I have two thoughts to offer as to why people say this type of thing. One is that in their most recent work (the past 3 years or so) BTS really hasn't included romantic songs, although as you say, they certainly have a number of them in their discography. But most important, I think in the west (maybe the US especially), people really tend to assume ALL songs are about relationships. It's been interesting to see how often new reactors will repeatedly try to interpret BTS's music through that lens - it made me aware of how often western music is written that way. I think that's why people are sometimes more vehement about it, but it would definitely be better for people to be more accurate when they explain it. 💜

Blue and grey was written by V He said in weverse interview V: There was a time I was going through something like this. I was having the toughest time, but I couldn’t keep carrying that feeling around with me. Instead, I could use it as a kind of fertilizer. So I took care of that feeling by constantly writing it down in my notes. I just kept writing everything down, and when finally I felt like I wanted to try writing a song, I did. After the song was finished, I felt a sense of accomplishment, and that’s how I was able to let go of “Blue & Grey.” That was one way I wanted to try getting over my problem. What do you hope hearing about that feeling will do for listeners? V: Rather than just some stranger telling them to cheer up, I think it’s better to say something like, “You seem depressed lately,” or, “Seems like these days it’s tough for you to perk up.” “Blue & Grey” is the same: “You’re depressed lately? Me too. We’re in the same boat. Wanna talk about how you’re feeling? You wanna feel better, right? I know, but sometimes it feels like you’re being washed away by a whirlpool of stress.” I want the listeners to hear me saying that to them.

Blue & Grey is one of the songs from their BE album and to fully understand the meaning of it - you'd have to listen to the album itself. BE is a reflection of their feelings they were going through the last year: covid outbreak, tour cancellation, isolation, loneliness, hopelessness, etc. But then the second part of the album is about dealing with difficulties, keeping your head up, fighting obstacles and finding new ways. It's fantastic album and what's the most important - it's the most relatable of their albums yet, as all of us been going through the same emotions and situations. PS: BTS albums tell stories. If you're reacting to one random song from any album, it'd be a good idea to just check album's synopsis before digging in - that would give you an idea of overall theme.

For me a big part of depression is that it tricks your brain into thinking things will never be better. And depression can literally make you misremember or forget times you felt happy or okay. When I’m seriously depressed it feel like my whole world. So yes, Jin’s line about how “someday in the future I will say ‘that’s how it used to be’” is such a powerful reminder that things get better and even this will just be a memory. It’s also why I had to learn to journal not just to vent or deal with hard things but to record happy times. I don’t NEED to journal so much when I am feeling better, but for me it’s a powerful tool for when I’m feeling blue to see how I was blue before but it also got better before. And that means it can be better again. Also, to catch my brain in the lies it tries to tell me that I was never happy. For me, very personally because all mental health is a very personal topic that is unique to everyone, but for me I don’t call my depression “chronic” but I do know depression is something I will battle all my life. I have for 20 years since I was 9 years old. My depression needs no reason except bad brain chemistry. Does that mean I have been depressed for 20 years or expect or plan to be majorly depressed in the future? Hell no! For me I say battle because even if I’m not depressed it’s something I consciously have to look out for and take steps to prevent. (Like journaling when I’m happy) because I know from experience how fast the downward spiral can be for me. I also know how bad it can bet at the very bottom of that spiral. I always live with a bit of fear of that bottom. That’s why I like the line too, “I wasn’t myself, I wasn’t afraid.” To me, fear is a good and healthy thing that helps keep me safe (even if it’s from myself.) it’s when I can’t feel that fear is when I know things are getting pretty bad again

I want to say that depression is not the same thing as feeling down/sad/depressed. Depression is a clinical term and it is mental health disorder. In this song BTS members are talking about feeling down/sad/depressed. If you are interested in songs where they talk specifically about disorder, then you can listen SUGA's song The Last. He is the only member who openly named this diagnosis and confirmed that he has depression as mental health disorder
@lobaetoile84403 жыл бұрын
That's not a fair thing to say. This song is not just about feeling down momentarily, it describes something deeper than that... It can definitely be interpreted as a song acbout clinical depression. Clinical depression can last a couple of months or years, it can be chronical or provocked by one specific traumatic incident/not chronical. Just because the song intends to make the listener have hope of feeling better eventually, or just because we don't know if Tae has been diagnosed with depression by a professional, it doesn't mean this song is about a very superficial sadness. The lyrics of this song actually do seem to be describing some type of mental/emotional struggle that is difficult to overcome. It is open to interpretation, but it very much could be interpreted as depression. And many people who have mental illnesses, for one reason or another, don't have a professional diagnosis or are unaware of why do they feel how they feel.

@@lobaetoile8440 we can all interpret music in different ways, that's the beauty of art. But when the creator talks about the meaning behind a song I tend to listen to it. @@miamia8183 Mm... Do you speak Korean? Do you know the exact terms he used, if they were translated correctly? Because I, we, actually don't know if he has had depression or not. What I do know is that he's someone who doesn't tend to use words in a very technical way, he's always been very spontaneous and kinda fickle with his use of language... Also, I would argue he did say he wrote the song when he was feeling "burnout", which indicates prolonged work exhaustion, something beyond just "being tired one day". In another hand, Tae wrote the demo, but the lyrics are co-written... Tae's favorite line was one that was written by Yoongi, who understood the emotion he was trying to convey, and Yoongi does have "diagnosed" chronic depression... And that line says "I am not ok"... Idk, what I understood from V's own words was that it was a song about wanting to get over something deeper than "just momentary sadness", something more serious than that, whatever it is. That's what I understood he intended to imply. I'm not saying "oh this is what I interpret from the lyrics", it's what I understood from his words.

My favorite line is "Don't say it's ok, because it's not ok." Everyone who has ever felt down could relate to this, but those of us with real depression and other disorders recognize this and relate to it more powerfully. There's nothing worse for me than trying to explain that I DON'T KNOW what's wrong, but I know it's not ok. Saying it's ok trivializes the deep despair that is crushing a person.

I just need to add some input. There is a difference between being depressed and being diagnosed with clinical depression. Being depressed is a mental state. Having clinical depression is a mental disorder and actually never really goes away. It is indeed a part of you. I have been diagnosed with the most severe form of depression and have suffered from it for more than half of my life now. I'm in a situation where I can't really get better because the environment I live in is toxic and contributes to triggering anxiety and my sensory issues because I am also autistic, which is very much a part of my identity (autism isn't bad misinformation needs to stop). So when I say I'm depressed, I'm not inviting myself to become more depressed, I am actually comforting myself and explaining my lack of energy to people. It's a comfort because I have a tendency to call myself lazy or blame myself for my lack of motivation or ability to take care of myself. So by reminding myself that these behaviors are actually caused by a mental disorder that I'm suffering from, I am trying to stop hating myself. Doesn't always works but it helps. For people with clinical depression (major depressive disorder in my case), compartmentalizing which behaviors are me and what are caused by my disorder is necessary for coping.

Just to clarify. Not everybody has experienced depression. Everbody has felt down before or sad, but that is NOT the same as suffering from clinical depression. Clinical depression has a variety of factors that need to come together to make it break out. One of them is a disbalance of neurotransmitters in your brain. You also can`t beat depression by "getting over" it at a certain time, since it is not a one-time occurance but rather keeps coming back in waves. You can try to get prepared for those waves and seek help when you realize you are facing one, but clinical depression stays your whole life. I`m not trying to hate but I think these are common misconceptions many have and you are repeating them here.

I think they tried to be clear that they weren't seeking to discredit the severity of what people may experience with clinical depression...simply supporting the concept of not making that experience your primary personal identity. We all view and experience things differently....that's the beauty of hearing new thoughts, choosing what we agree with, and letting what we don't slide back out of our minds. 💜

@@tanyaolvera1723 Facts are not about different views. It's not a bad thing to let people know what you r going through in order to get the help you need. Thats why this has to be a topic that people can easily talk about. Bts song "I need you" comes to mind here. Sometimes its just one person that could stop you or make that difference, to bring just a bit of light. Many people who r clinically depressed do not go around saying I'm clinically depressed either. The people you might see doing that may also have bipolar disorder or another element added in to that. @@meloedits It was originally by Ji Soo Park, Levi, and V. The main songwriter was always Ji Soo Park, but yes, V was heavily involved in the song.

I really appreciate your inerest towards BTS's lyrics! Their music and art is so multi-layered, you'd miss so much by just skimming through! I do want to say that beating clinical depression isn't just 'smile and push through', in case anyone who watched this has depression and feels bad bc they can't get over it. You can, but at your own pace and doing it your way. Seek help and rest early ♡

🌅 Let there be light!!!! I really wanted to use this one:⏳in reference to your 7 min talks. 😂 I like how you didn’t say depression isn’t real, but just reinforced the importance of trying to overcome it’s powerful hold. I like Suga’s verse: “Hope I don’t get devoured, I’ll find the exit.” Also, as per your usual quips, you guys always brighten the mood… Z: Hippity Hoppity, I just want the pain to Stoppity. Word!! S: It’s like going thru a Bob Ross painting 🖼

The "where is my angel ?" can strike more if you know that V has, indeed, an angel. You can see him ask for his angel's advice in some "run bts" episode for exemple (mostly to know what he should play at rock, paper, scissors ^^) Here a little compilation of V and his angel : kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5KmdYGPhLWHp9U So, thinking that he can't reach his angel anymore is really heartbreaking.

BE Album is very soothing and relevant to pandemic situation during it was released. First half of the album eg Fly to my room, Blue and Grey were abt sad n depressing situation during pandemic, but the songs tone become happier from Telepathy up to Dynamite. Really love this album

For context this song comes off the album "BE" which they wrote and released during the Pandemic while they were in isolation last year. People tend to forget about this beautiful album when they try to complain about how BTS "only release English songs" now.

The song was written during the height of Covid to describe their feelings-especially V-and though can be applied to having an off day I believe they were trying to share how awful they felt during that time.

You bet their word choice is effortless. LOL. It does sound that way but watch some of RM's VLogs where he talks about how he agonized for days or even weeks over word choices to bring out sentiment, word play and musical sound in every part of a song! Plus they get input and changes from their whole team.

Suga and rm r not used to just coming in and reinforcing the message. Firstly, bts started off as a rap group. No more dream that masterpiece was started off by the rap line. Can we talk about mic drop? Yes the rap line as well. Idol? Yes again, rap line. The vocal line do their stuff but the rap line has also done and has continued to do their stuff. They all bring their skills and its amazing.

I really appreciate that you analyse the lyrics and take time to figure out the deep meaning behind them but I kinda feel that's it there is not appreciation to the vocals never heard you talking about the vocalists or did any videos to see how amazing they are and same for the dancing it's only about the lyrics

Thanks for Your reaction. Thanks for Yours Important words. BTS:) Blue and Grey... Very Important and Amazing song for me. Lyrics, music and compose... First.. V made this song on His First mixtape. But... Year 2020..covid...separation, death around Us...canceled concerts.... and more sad and depressing situations. Our King....missed Us and We missed Them.... Many tears and heartache... BTS have prepared unplanned and unique Album...BE. All Members, but especially I think..Our Rappers... convinced V, to include Blue and Grey on Album BE. So... I Recommend You all songs from this album. Very Important, wise and supportive songs. I Hope.. You will listen and watch. all songs BE. and More songs BTS:) Especially live: Concerts, Fanmeetings and Awards Show. BTS live...always..Best of the Best in the World:) Maybe: Mikrokosmos, Magic Shop, Make It Right, Fake Love, ON, IDOL and more... and See You soon:) BTS and ARMY:) We are Family:) I Purple U All. A gray rhino is an (economic) term describing a highly probable, high impact event that is obvious for everyone to see that is coming but is ignored until it's too late. A black swan is an (economic) term referring to events that are improbable and unforseeable but hugely consequential. Was COVID 19 a gray rhino or a black swan event? What about BTS?...
