For all the love and support from genuine ARMY they are openly grateful. I am 65 and I have never come across a relationship like the one that exists between BTS and ARMY. Same here Grannie Annie I am 62 a grandma and a proud ARMY, my daughter who is 40 also an ARMY and her daughter who is 13 and is a fan. They were shocked to find out I was ARMY and likewise me of them. I will be ARMY till the day I die even if they persue seperate paths.They give so much and only deserve the best.

Thank you for reacting to this. But as a Korean I must say that xCeleste blew over many parts and the ACTUAL amount of tortures they went through were portrayed only 10% here. Especially during 2015-2017, when BTS started to blow up in Korea, they were insanely slandered and attacked by numerous toxic fans mostly from the fandom of two top groups from big companies . The amount of hate were BEYOND IMAGINATION and were amazingly (and suspiciously) SYSTEMATIC. (A well known kpop reactor DJ Jino, who had worked in the SK music industry once remarked that he is quite sure one big label was actively involed in these systematic slanders) Not to mention the members themselves but armys who had to defend bts against those flooding hate comments had such painful and tough times, so many of them even suffered depression and left the fandom. I can never blame them for just supporting them was literally going through a bloody war on a daily basis.. At that time bts wrote 2,3! and Magic Shop to comfort those armys who were so hurt and exhausted, even though bts themselves were going through the same pain and could not mention why both army and bts were suffering. I will skip the sheer absurdity and atrocoties of the Japanese Neo Nazzi since other comments have explained it well, but not only that, just becasue BTS thanked America for helping SK during Korean war, a neighbouring country who is against democracy severely attacked them on a national level. Whenever they say Hanbok and Kimchi is Korean, which is just plain facts, haters from that county starts to slander again, Bts literally had ONLY armys who could have their back. But they've overcome and overcome so many obstacles and hates till now. These are the reason why I not only support but also truly respect them

Thanks for saying this. When I mention that people should take Celeste as "canon" they accuse me of being a hater or something (for this or the BU or anything). She's great and she's doing great for putting stuff together here and there, but sometimes I feel we hype things too much, without being critical. Hi Andrew! Im a K army and want to point out just one thing. Although xCeleste did a good job, she introduced those completely made-up malicious slanders as kind of valid issues. As someone who have watched the music industry for more than 20 years, IT WAS NEVER. 99.9% issues attacked bts in SK were purely out of jealousy of rival fandoms and big labels. Bts and Bighit chose the upright and honest path from the start in the corrupt industry, and that was the only reason. (And thank you always for your sincere approach, its one of my fav channel)

An incident happened just a few days ago: Namjoon showed support to a South Korean athlete at the Olympics, and the BTS instagram pictures became flooded with Chinese antis. As soon as ARMYs heard about it, we flooded the comments with purple heart (💜), an important symbol for BTS and ARMYs. I couldn’t believe the amount of horrible comments I had to report just because Namjoon showed support to his country.

At the moment literally all Koreans were so frustrated bcz that country's players did such dirty play (catching others by hand and thrusting things in front of others) but were not disqualified and got medal, while Korean player did not do anything wrong and finished the first but very questionably disqualified. Many international judges including Canada said they can't believe that. And while all Koreans were deeply enraged by that robbery, NN cngratulated that player who did the foul It is totally different from RM's case (But I get what you mean, I also don't agree we can freely say curse words to someone even though he did st bad)

RM received hate from Chinese antis for cheering for the Korean athlete that did nothing wrong. Both situations are different and I think the context matters. Of course both of them didn’t deserve hate for supporting their home country, but in this situation, there was cheating involved, so I don’t think both sides can be compared. [edit: grammar]

As angry as the Busan One Festival thing makes me, it also really shows just how much BTS love army. They put performing for their fans and making them happy above any wounded pride and bruised egos no one could fault them for having given the circumstances. I dont think many other artists would have done the same if put in a similar situation. BTS are so selfless when it comes to their fans and showing us unconditional love.

It's literally about guys going through puberty and how they're trying to figure out/can't control their hormones! I don't see how it can be problematic when they're just explaining men's attraction towards women , that's more genius lyrics than problematic in my book.i love how they can take one word like hormones and make a whole song surrounding it, and they go into so much depth about their subjects their songs get crazy philosophical ! Not to mention it really matched their albums about teens rebelling/growing up/finding themselves etc. The first 3 albums were about what youth go through , so..HELLO War of Hormones is about Puberty ... They should not have gotten any hate at all , in fact this song may actually be a very important part in the trilogy because all young boys go through that (now they have a song to relate to)

As for Japan-Korea history, Japan occupied Korea for 40+ years and their dominance ended only with the end of ww2 (Europe fought Germany, the Pacific region fought Japan). So the atomic bombings of Japan are a symbol of not tragedy but liberation for Korean people. That's a very simplified version, you can look up the White paper project online

Japan brought tragedy in a lot of countries, especially Asia. I am a Filipino and imagine that they occupied the Philippines for only 3 years but the damage they caused the country was massive. And a lot of Filipino women also became "comfort women" which was a very traumatic experience.

The atrocities they committed against Koreans during the occupation are horrible. And on top of that, as I recall, the t-shirt Jimin wore was by a designer who used images from history books about the Korean liberation, so the actual context of the t-shirt was perfectly well understood despite the uproar some people suddenly felt the need to make. And that time was TERRIBLE...there were a lot of genuinely scary threats of violence against both BTS and ARMY, especially Japanese ARMY.

even recently, with Super Tuna, the Japanese right wingers complained about the use of east sea in its lyrics. The sea in between the 2 countries is in dispute (where Korea calls it East Sea, being on it east, while Japan calls it Sea of Japan). lyrics go "east sea, west sea, where did my fish go?". there is even no real west sea, so mention of east in the song was a reference to the direction and not the disputed sea tself. so ridiculous.

Still watching but, to answer 'why?' BTS received mistreatment from a lot of the Korean entertainment media companies including broadcast companies... It's because BTS & BigHit were gaining success without going through the established system. These days, BTS' success is so undeniable that those same companies have to publicly acknowledge BTS and BigHit to save face. But there are still situations behind the scenes where they are mistreating them and trying to make BigHit's artists look bad. Before, it was the norm for kpop groups to use these kpop-related tv variety shows and programs for promoting their groups, no matter what company they come from. The Big 3, of course, held the monopoly over the broadcast network these programs were on, but every group went through this process in order to gain popularity and public promotion before BTS (even BTS tried this process at first, which is why you have clips of them on Running Man, Problematic Men, Hello Counselor, Law of the Jungle, etc.). Nugu groups had it worse because their companies didn't have the clout to either get on good programs, if they got on at all, or give them a lot of screen time, or save them from "evil editing" (which is a term we use for what the programs do when they edit the shows to inflate drama and conflict in them at the idols' expense). And while I don't think BTS's success is bc of social media, I do believe that their use of social media to create their own content to promote themselves saved them from having to rely on these programs like everyone else did. And bc BH had total control of the production of their shows, it worked in the band's favor. And now, a lot of kpop groups do the same thing. They turn to social media to produce and release their grps' content to the public if they can't do it through variety shows. Broadcast networks might still be relevant in Korea, but grps now have access to a global market and don't need to rely on or bend over for these networks the way they had to before.

BTS's rise and existence challenged the STATUS QUO at the time and place... the powerful entertainment companies, news medias, and broadcasting stations. First it was competition, so other entertainment companies try to take them out by joining hands with broadcasts and media to suppress BTS, mobilize competing fandoms to attack on social media. When BTS still thrived despite their interference (actually, the blocking of them going thru the usual promotion routes I think actually forced BTS to find alternative avenues to market themselves (and succeeded!), bypassing the traditional TV station ways, so it actually backfired on them), they just stepped up their attacks, bc now it's not just competition, but the power of those medias and TV producers (that historically held the power to **make or break** groups, artists, entertainers) are being challenged, bc BTS didn't need them to "make it big." Those that had the power are losing their influence in media and entertainment under BTS's success, so that's why they are afraid and felt threatened. And the same cycle that happened in S. Korea, it has now happened in the west as well, bc BTS's existence also threatened the status quo. Music executives, labels, platforms, and radio stations, etc. with power... used to decide who they are GOING TO MAKE BIG, how much money will X, Y, Z rake in... now also threatened bc BTS doesn't rely on paying radio stations for radio play, or paying for playlisting on streaming platforms (anything payola), to make it big on the charts, and having a "foreign" group bypass the US establishment and systems, is also a blow to their power (bc they can't stop armies from buying songs, after refusing spins on radio, and heavy-filtering listen #s on streaming platforms), thus the instinct to discredit them, as BTS is invading their space, market, power... (not even getting into racism yet, it's already like this...) These days, usually when bad propaganda and/or online attacks or some form of discourse pops up, it's usually either 1) BTS is dropping something new, and they are trying to disrupt their promos, or 2) using BTS as a smoking gun to cover up bad deeds to take the spot light away from their own bad press. That's my opinion.

The main reason they are hated on like this is not just jealousy, it is that they challenge systems of power (education system, music industry and gender binary/toxic masculinity just to name a few) both by simply being themselves and through their financial success.

As someone who was ARMY during the time when BTS and specifically Jimin was abused for the "Liberation of Korea" T-shirt that he was wearing (South Korea got its freedom from Japan after WWII), it was one of the worst experiences ever. I specifically remember so many accounts getting banned and reported on Twitter, Instagram, and so on, and at one point almost every ARMY account, big or small, was harassed online, especially on Twitter. The White Paper Project was literally what got very few other fandoms to sympathize and fight alongside us. I had hoped stuff like that would stop happening, but it keeps repeating itself again and again and again. It breaks my heart :( Edit: I agree with the replies under this comment. The other fandoms didn't really 'fight for us' but after the White Paper Project was published, atleast tried to see things from our viewpoint. And, yeah, there was that one fandom who were not really the best- it really was terrible :(

Yeah, that was very intense. I knew the entire thing was not truly targeted at BTS and/or Jimin (besides the fact that it was an old photo dug up as a scapegoat), but part of this bigger picture of history and politics, because I also learned about lots of other Korean companies being boycotted in Japan around that time. But then the reaction with the White Paper Project was so good to see.

@@lilyroos4133 Yes, of course, every country (as far as I know) celebrates its freedom from colonialism (I'm from India, we celebrate Independence Day here after getting freedom from the Brits). What happened with the BTS issue was, a South Korean company demanded that Japan pay some money as reparation for colonizing them until WW2. A Japanese-based show then canceled BTS's appearance on their show because of this and then antis dug up an old photo of Jimin wearing that T-shirt. The Japanese were mad that they lost money to South Korea, and BTS was later dragged into it and attacked. :( [And please excuse me for spelling or grammer errors, my first language isn't English :D]

what is even worse about that issue is that numerous other idols had worn the exact same shirt before, but it only became a problem for BTS. the amount of death threats BTS and ARMYs received was horrible. Many anti-BTS kpop fans took that opportunity to hate BTS, without even considering the political context of the issue. I don’t remember if it was during that period, but i remember a certain fandom which shall remain nameless literally siding with japanese extremists that were threatening BTS safety! I know a lot of comments will be BTS related so I though I’d give you just some brief history of Korea. Korea has been around in some for about 2,000 years. It actually was 3 kingdoms, all closely tied, then unified about 1500 years ago. That had a distinct cultural identity from China and Japan and especially distinct language with origins in neither. China and Japan had both often tried to conquer Korea (mostly to get at each other) for a very long time. Sometimes even succeeding for a short while until the Korean people fought back for their freedom. So when Japan colonized Korea for nearly 50 years leading up to WW2 it was pretty devastating. Not just because they were forcibly colonized but because Japan absolutely brutalized Korean people and tried to annihilate their culture. They enslaved many Koreans because they thought of them as racially inferior, torn down palaces and temples, burned art, and even forbade Korean language to be spoken or traditional clothes to be worn. Korea had many freedom fighters during this time but anyone caught rebelling, or even accused would be imprisoned, often tortured for years or experimented on, and often executed. A lot of Koreans also fled at this time to find refuge (and often racism) in other countries. In that way they were also able to help preserve Korean culture as well as fight for independence and raise awareness of Korea’s plight. I saw where one historian said if not for those rose awareness at the UN Korea might have simply been made a territory of of America or possibly Russia or China instead of given back their independence. Now Japan is a very different country. Korea is also a very different country. Japan is a cultural powerhouse. Japan is the number 1 vacation spot for Koreans. Kpop singers (including BTS) actively promote in Japan and release Japanese albums and are very loved by Japan public. But a lot of hurt lingers. WW2 is a lot more recent than people realize. Particularly to Europeans and East Asian countries with lot longer histories. A lot of Korean people have Korean grandparents who can still remember colonization or spoke Japanese because they were forced to be able to. But the main remaining animosity coming from the Japanese government not giving reparations to Korea or even acknowledging much of the atrocities that happened. I hope none of this offended everyone and I tried to tell very broad story so I wouldn’t mess up facts, but please let me know if any of this could be more accurate. I think Korean and Asia history in general is so fascinating because it’s all so new to me because it’s barely barely taught inAmerican schools. I also think it’s important to note that politicians and tabloids are what got BTS tangled up with Japanese broadcasting stations. Not Japanese people or BTS holding any ill will or anger. BTS has shown time and time again how much they love Japanese ARMY and concerts and spending time there and only ever try to be respectful of every country they visit. Regardless how media in each place tries to protray them

I'm from Poland. I was reading this and notice that Korean and Polish history have many similars. Korea was occupied by Japan, Poland by USSR and other countries. I have never experienced it, but my grandparents remember that time very well. When i hear stories I always cry. Like you said they and we are differen countries now, but we still remember everything and it hurts.

I think they are hated by the industry (and other artists) because they have reached the top in their own way, outside of existing systems. Even here in the US they get some radio play because of the hard work of ARMYs, not standard $$$ ways. Meanwhile HYBE has itself taken an outside approach to gaining industry power and influence (now buying up smaller companies like Biebers...) These tactics and business strategies were a necessity originally because they had no money or influence to play the game everyone was playing it. And now they are so big they (BTS, BigHit and HYBE) are creating their own game. (Ha! now quite literally) The integrity and honor and humbleness that our guys have been able to hold on to thru all of this makes all ARMY love them even more.

It's made by an ARMY who has done an amazing job of show the journey of BTS through the years and how they have evolved as artists and people. It also helps with the understanding of KPOP culture and I love to show it to people who are really getting into BTS. The videos are only 20-30min a piece so not super long and it breaks it up into digestible pieces of information. Loved the reaction! Can't wait to see the next video!

I know Rosan (XCeleste) says she made this MV not to relive the sadness, hold grudges, etc. but to talk about the strong bond between BTS. But what gets me (and likely other ARMY) upset are the institutional changes in the music industry to either exclude or marginalize BTS because of their outright success. Because they have defined their success through their own way, and not through instruments in place - this doesn't mean that they haven't utilized resources in the industry to their advantage, why shouldn't they, other artists have done so - but why should they be punished for using those resources? Aren't those resources available to all, or is that a myth? Anyway, let's hear it for the long-term health and happiness of BTS - hip hip hooray!

About mysoginistic stuff: I can see some points, but in 95% of the cases were unfounded imho, trying to bring them down. The difference is they issued an apology, Namjoon went to consult his lyrics with a Women Studies professor and they were better and even more educated afterwards. (mostly about songs which tried to explain or portray what a schoolboy/teenage guy goes through... :eyeroll:) They addressed this on the abc (?) interview with pres. Moon back in September. They never shy away of stuff (like the Olympics now) Other companies/idols for WORSE things: they never apologize OR say the typical "I'm sorry you felt that way" gaslighting.

To be fair, there's a lot that xceleste did not cover or did not have time to cover. I've only been following BTS' journey for the past 5/6 years, but in that time there was a campaign to keep BTS from winning at the BBMAs by antis, There was the response to them winning at the BBMAs by the US music institutions (? is that the right word) where they made a systematic effort to sit them at the Kpop table only and excluded them from other categories. The BBMAs even changed the way they counted votes. From 2017 they decided that votes using only certain platforms were valid. (an obvious effort to exclude international voters). There were other instances of outright racism toward the members including a Greek TV personality who was outraged that Taehyung was nominated as one of the most handsome men on the planet. (She declared that no asian man was handsome.) The thing that really upsets me is that no one calls these people out on their racism-- not their cohosts, not their other guests, not even Zack Sang who has been a friend to BTS for years. The one who came closest was Andy Cohen and yes, I was disappointed in Anderson Cooper's remark too.

I heard a recent comment by Simon Cowell of America's Got Talent" that an English speaking boy band needs to be created, which he is trying to do, because the top boy band should be English speaking! AND! BTS should have been awarded a Grammy. AND they should have been nominated in best group category and album, not just a single. The Grammys surely looked pathetic and stupid when BTS made the best performance that has and will ever be on the Grammys. Shame on them! But who did the President of the United States invite to the White House? Ahh. That is when I became very proud of being American and of BTS. 💜

I'll try to distill over 100 years of history for you - Korea was under Japanese imperial rule for decades & the abuse & horrific things they were put through due to the Japanese are unspeakable honestly (look up "comfort women" & Korean wartime labor for Japan just to give you a small glimpse). Japan, despite saying they were no longer going to continue pursuing aggressive actions to the other countries they had been attacking & invading, were STILL doing so which led to the atomic bombings (which were aimed to destroy their war-making factories & infrastructure to ensure their military would be disabled effectively ending their imperial rule over not just Korea but dozens of other countries throughout Asia). Korea's liberation & independence from imperial Japan was a direct result of those bombings so when this Korean creator designed & sold t-shirts to celebrate that independence he included a picture of one of those atomic bombs coupled with words saying, "our history" and "our independence" and "liberation". Jimin wore this t-shirt once off schedule during his own private time & that was used by Japanese extreme conservatives (think Japanese Nazis) to use as a scapegoat like, "see this really famous *Korean* is wearing something glorifying the atomic bombings!" And it was blown up from there. BTS were holding a concert in Japan later that month & ARMYs were being harassed by Nazi protesters outside the venue & there were multiple bomb threats to the concert. It was terrifying & ARMYs the world over were under constant attack trying to clarify & defend BTS/Jimin. I've been through the majority of these hardships alongside BTS & fellow ARMY & I must say Nov2018 was the WORST of them all. I was legitimately terrified that the members would be shot or the concert would be bombed, or ARMYs would be hurt. Celeste does a good job giving a basic summary of these things but the permeation, the sheer amount of the hatred & attacks just cannot be conveyed properly honestly. It was constant for several years & traumatizing for all of us, our Tannies included.

The most upsetting factor for me is that Japanese people do not disclose how they colonized Korea, taking away the language, cultural belief and heritage (mens hair were forcefully cut off - where Koreans believed in respecting the body parents gave you by keeping their hair as it grow, women being forced into sexual labor and experiments... like in the Holocaust). Instead, they don't acknowledge their wrongdoing because it's in the past and refuses to make amends. Children in Japan are not taught in school on this part of history. At least with Holocaust, the crimes were admitted, history is taught and certain amended were made. It's still a very painful topic for most Koreans. My grandma used to tell me these things and how she lost one of her daughter (my aunt that I never got to have) during the war time. I know that each side have their perspectives in these situations... but at least let's talk about what exactly happened and teach the younger generation to not repeat that history.

Having liked them at the time, I think the difference with BTS is that there was always this sense that there was something somehow different about them. I could see that people were threatened by them in a weird way. It was unlike many other groups. And as with all of the corporate crap, Big Hit / HYBE has never played the games. When they have been shut out of something, they have just come up with their own platforms etc. They took the attitude of, "We'll just do this without you," and resentment has built up.

This was my second time watching this, but I still felt like I got hit by a truck (in the emotional sense). I think the thought provoking nature of this is what is most important and I have a feeling it’ll stick with you for a while as you carry on watching! I would say that while most people don’t tend to know all this straight away when they start listening and getting into them as a group, I feel like seeing this side of the story just enhances and solidifies the ARMY journey more even if it’s not a happy watch. I completely agree with your reactions throughout - I don’t understand, and it just doesn’t make any sense. It’s astonishing the lengths so many different groups of people went to and continue to go to in order to ‘take down’ BTS. I was fully expecting you to just scream for a minute solid at the end of the video to let it all out 😅 I hope you went and watched some giggly Bangtan videos or something after this. When people go ‘oh they can’t really be that close, it’s just for show’ it’s things like this where you go, no - you can’t go through all of that, make it out the other end and not have a bond valuing each other that is stronger than most. I know Hobi’s talked about his feelings of as though it was fate that the 7 of them were brought together, but with how they work and balance each other out now, I just can’t imagine it any other way even if that took time and effort for them to get to that point together. It’s hard to explain BTS and ARMY, and as an adult fan with a full time life and work etc outside it all sometimes I feel like I can’t really describe why they’re such a big part of my life in the way I want to, but I know those in the same boat just ‘get’ it which is why I love being part of a community to share it. I never thought I’d be sat here raving over a band so much again like I did ten years ago, but here we are. Thankfully I have a very supportive (if not somewhat baffled) fiancé who has volunteered to come with me to a concert some day and helps hook the tv up to watch them on a big screen for online concerts, and my Mom who texts me any BTS news she hears haha. At the end of the day (from what we’ve seen) they are such genuine, caring and respectful people who are having the best time doing what they love and are passionate about even through all the cr-p they get. They’ve been open with growing and learning to be happy with who they are as people and I think there’s far too many in this world who just can’t handle or reconcile how comfortable and confident they are as themselves now even if they’re honest about still working on themselves to this day. They’ve done so much and continue to do so much to this day with positivity and good intentions, and aside from absolutely loving the music, for that I’m in it for the long run! I'm an old ARMY, I'm here since their debut, so I can for sure say that the video, even if impactful, CAN'T show as HORRIBLE the time between 2014-2017 really was, a lot of small things aren't in the video, and I understand,but this period was such a horror show, it was ridiculous and painful and I had never been so ANGRY in my life (BTS saved me so I was and still am VERY protective towards them) but BTS never let it get them, NEVER stopped being kind and humble and that's the major reason I'm still an ARMY in my 26yo, and probably will be for all my life They're incredible people, incredible human beings, and I can't stress as much they deserve ALL their successful accomplishments If you ever listen that army are a crazy fandom and agressive/toxic, remember THIS video because we had to be the wall between the antis and haters, we tried our best to protect them and we will keep trying

Let me tell you the truth about the T-shirt thing, The main big picture on the t shirt was not even the atomic bomb. The main pictureit was just depicting the Independence Day of Korea and the bomb was just a tiny tiny little picture at the corner of the back. (Jimin was gifted the shirt by an organization) I know of course that little picture could offend some Jappanese, but Japan literally killed MILLIONS of Koreans - which is prob wayyy more than the people killed by the bomb - not to mention that they almost completely killed Korean language and culture, stole everything from us during their cruel Colonial dictatorship. So many grandfathers and grandmothers of us were killed, raped, dragged to wars and wounded... And now they are furious abt that tiny little bomb picture at the back? which was not even done by Koreans? I still can't understand the Japanese right wings mentality. And now they teach their students that no such things happened. Japanese young generation don't even know they participated WW2 and lost.

This will be a very oversimplified version of the events that occurred during Japan’s colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula, but it should hopefully give you enough information to understand what happened during that time. Prior to Japan’s colonial rule, Korea was a thriving nation whose culture brought a lot of overseas markets to the peninsula. For thousands of years, Korea was happily staying afloat as a promising nation, but once Japan colonized the peninsula during its colonial era (1910-1945), Koreans lost a lot of their culture, were forced to learn Japanese and speak Japanese only, forced to change their names to sound more Japanese, and were tortured, starved, and killed. Over 20 million Korean women were taken from their homes (many of which were underaged) to become “comfort women” to Japanese soldiers. These women were then raped, starved, and killed on a daily basis. The shirt Jimin wore was to celebrate Korea’s independence, which is something almost all citizens of a colonized nation does. This exact shirt is massively produced and worn in South Korea; many famous Kpop idols have been photographed wearing it thousands of times. The reason why it was mentioned in the video is because Jimin (and as a result, all of BTS) was the only one being blacklisted by the Japanese media. The South Korean and Japanese government deal that xCeleste talking about in the video happened in 2018. Jimin wore that shirt years before that and no one had an issue with it when photos were first released. It was only until both of those countries had political issues that the Japanese media reported it and blacklisted BTS. As a result, BTS songs were banned from being played on radios, BTS was banned from appearing on certain programs, high profile Japanese celebrities hated on BTS and encouraged their fans to do the same, and many of the conservative fans of other groups/antis of BTS used this as an excuse to send death threats to BTS and South Koreans in general. Of course, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima was horrible and shouldn’t have been as destructive as it was, but as a result of it, Korea gained its independence. Both sides suffered, but I personally feel like residents of a colonized country deserve to celebrate it.

I am an ARMY since 2013. And honestly, nothing has changed in terms of hate they are receiving. The only thing that was changed is now, no matter what they threw to BTS, it will just go to waste and not to them because it's not relevant anymore. But, it's still hurtful knowing what they've been through. And it's kinda annoying that these people hate them as if they know them as persons and without even diving first in their crafts. I just kinda wish that people will learn to be happy for others who are successful. It's not hard to do that. 💜 The Journey through these years was hard yet fulfilling and worth it. I never regret that I supported them and defended them. They constantly changed my perspectives about groups and life itself. They changed my life for the better. I wasn’t not surprised at all at the adversities that the cruel world threw at someone. Of coz it is not right but I’m not surprised. But that makes me admire and respect BTS SOOOOO MUCH MORE for their strength and tenacity for overcoming all these obstacles. On top of it all, they did it with positivity, love and compassion, with their sheer hard work and talents. They never got bitter. They never said a single bad word or criticize any other party. They just worked very very hard and kept charging forward. They just got better than anyone else on the planet. They just got so GOOD that even haters cannot deny the artistry of their work. Oh but not just back in the days, even to this day, the Grammys the Scammys. How dynamite didn’t win last year is absolutely beyond anyone’s understanding. But it doesn’t matter anymore, BTS has outgrown even the Grammys. BTS is on another level in their own league now. I particularly applaude bighit and Bang PD for his extraordinary vision. I could be wrong, but RUN BTS was created after our baby Jungkook was mistreated on the variety show because Bighit didn’t want any of the member to suffer this kind of humiliations again. So they thought, instead of sending them to variety shows they would create their own show with a safe environment for the members. Look at the result! RUN BTS is the single most wholesome happy joyous remedy for the people. The Power. My favourite of all time is The Alchemist. To me BTS Is the Alchemist. It's totally understandable why Caitlin preferred not to share her reaction. 💜 TBH I felt pretty ignorant early in my ARMY journey when I found out a lot of this information. It's eye opening. Most memorably, I spent time with the campaign to call for Topps' apology when they published that trading card of BTS being brutalized. It was at the height of public discourse about Asian hate crimes. The 'ridiculous' quality to all these situations is hard to comprehend if you're a person who knows BTS. But if someone just sees them on the surface as an expendable, fake Asian boy band... 😑 My point being, the power of encountering each other as people. to be blunt about it i suggest doing research on what japan did to the countries it colonized but during that time japanese soldiers did unspeakable things to all the people in the countries they colonized they attempted to erase the other cultures so they tortured people to use japanese culture for example i recently read a korean woman posted on twitter about some of the horrors her grandparents faced and she said her grandmother still counts in japanese and is unable to count in korean. koreans are born with generational trauma due to what japan did to them and im sure its the same for Malaysia, Philippines etc japanese soliders forced women from all the countries to be their sex slaves aka comfort women. its just horrible. so all the countries had a right to celebrate their liberation regardless of what happened in hiroshima. some of those countries citizens were also forced to be in japan/hiroshima so they died in the bombings as well so its not like theyre celebrating japanese death theyre solely celebrating their freedom. thats what jimin was doing with the t shirt that 1000s if not millions of koreans wear all the time including other korean celebrities so why jimin was targeted only still makes me confused and angry especially since he did nothing wrong. japan really made everyone believe theyre not a bad part of history by distorting it and using propaganda to clean their reputation. a lot of what japan did is not even translated into english because even though the u.s and japan fought in ww2 the u.s values japans perspective more than the other countries its why we barely learn about anything japan did. i dont blame the japanese people but their government and military was evil same like the british and american governments and militaries. to simplify japan tried to do what the british did to native americans genocide and ironically they may have succeeded if they didnt get stopped with the hiroshima bombings. i also suggest looking up what HAN means because its in a lot of korean music especially bts's music. youll see it pop up often and its derived from being colonized. i also suggest you react to bts vs kpop by bbygangmag and youre wrong about kpop by bbygangmag as well as bbygangmags other videos youll learn a lot from the videos please react to them :)

Not mentioned is the radio stations in the US in 2017 getting gifts from army’s to play BTS on the radio and some of them laughing and joking the cupcakes are poisoned. And the radio still refuses to play BTS properly because there’s “no demand” even though they were selling out stadiums in 2019. well in short, japan colonized and opressed korea for decades. that also included mistreatment of korean people. one of the more known types of mistreatment were "comfort women" who were forced to sexually service japanese soldiers. it was the atomic bombing that lead to korea's liberation. but during the bombing tens of thousands of korean people died as well since japan forced them out of korean peninsula to work at the region. so the t shirt was not mocking the bombing at all

Japan invaded Korea and it was ugly (if you really are interested, check some articles): basically made slaves out of SKs, sex slaves included. The bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima as painful as they are for commoners put an end to Japan's "neo-colonialism", that's why they retreated and conceded. The issue with BTS was they got caught in the middle of a restitution sentence, where Japan had to pay SK for those years of terror. So coincidentally (or not) Jimin as proud SK wore a independence tshirt and they latched onto that. Army were the ones who wrote White Paper Project to educate the masses about WWII. First, payola is huge in the SK entertainment industry but BigHit and the boys have always refused to participate by paying..which is a lot of the reason why they faced such roadblocks, they wouldn't pay the powers that be. Second-before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, they had been conquering countries in Asia, including Korea. They enslaved Korean females as 'women of comfort' for their soldiers throughout WWII among other atrocities.

Basically, Japan took over Korea and committed a lot of atrocities against them, taking advantage of them and trying to destroy their culture and so much more. So when Korea regained their freedom in 1945, of course they celebrated. There's still a lot of bad blood between them though because Japan has a tendency to not acknowledge their wrongs in the past (tbh, same thing goes on in the US), even taking certain historic events out of their school history books so that younger generations are kept in the dark about those events. Every time I see the hardships video, it gets me sad and frustrated. BTS endured so much until now. Been army since 2014 and I remember a lot of these things going on and how stressful it was to want to do everything you can to protect them. I'm an ARMY since Nov 2017, so I wasn't there when they debuted. But I was a Kpop fan since 2009, and despite spending as one for a single year only, I know how sick it could be, so it's a good enough reason to leave. The industry itself, the community, the culture; everything about it was just sickeningly toxic. Even the good artists could become problematic because of how heavily it's rooted in its system... One of it is the pride of being high. I mean, it's about social standing in Korea, it matters there, strongly. So, there's a sense of pride & cockiness for being the big one, a member of famous community/big agency. As the result, Bully was kind of a norm there. Korean knew it's bad, and with the advantage of Information Technology + being exposed more with many other cultures + the "ugliness" also being exposed as their culture becoming popular, unfortunate people who have enough gut are starting to move forward & challenge the norm (a good change that I see now is, they realized that Bully is wrong & now they give no mercy to bullies, even tho it's unnecessarily becoming like a witch-hunting). Long story short, BTS was bullied that heavy bcz: 1) Their decision to "mix" Hip-Hop culture with Idol's (which is ridiculous reason to hate,, they're not the only one doing so, at the moment! They just,,, next point) 2) They came from a small-near-bankrupt company, make them easy to target (all the other reasons like f*ckn beauty standard & concept,, it's just excuses to hate on them) Now,, the community still hate them, bcz: 1) Jealousy 2) BTS' success didn't come from the formal/official Bureaucracy of Korean Entertainment Companies (Heeelllllll yeahhh,,, this is SO FREAKING AWESOME!!! In a country where much importance is put to "where you are from", many couldn't digest their success. Hence the attacks and such. To clarify the media situation that is being talked about @ the 31:57 mark, what is happening is that the media is barely reporting on bts’ achievements or downplaying them because the media is influenced by bigger companies or people in power. Like the bigger 3 companies that are always mentioned in kpop (they are called YG, SM and JYP) have the power and money to put pressure on media companies to report what they want. The reason they don’t want bts’ success to be properly reported on is because bts became big with the help of a small company, their fans and themselves and nothing else. They did not need to use/sign to these big companies that control the media to become big, so therefore people in the public would know that it can be done without these big companies if bts’ success was properly reported on. Then these companies would lose intrigue and money and such, because the power they hold is meaningless if bts can do it by themselves. THAT is what these two men were trying to say @ the 31:57 mark. I know the way they explained it was a little hard to follow or digest so I hope this helped people understand that a lot of the treatment bts gets is systematically perpetrated by their own industry: the kpop industry.

Japan invaded and occupied Korea in 1910 until 1945. They only left after they lost the war when the US bombed Japan. It was a time of extreme hardship for Korean people who were forced into hard labor and punished for speaking/writing in Korean, and attempting to keep the Korean culture alive. There is an entire museum in Seoul dedicated to this, and the many thousands of Koreans who lost their lives fighting to free their country. It is such a sad and difficult recent history for Korea.

This video makes you go from crying for all the hardships and injustices they have faced to feeling angry about it and then laughing at the absurdity of everything. Overall, it is sad that they have gone through so much, that they continue to go through that kind of stuff, and that they probably will always have to face some kind of mistreatment. The way in which they deal with these things and overcome them is just absolutely inspiring and shows how strong and nice they are. I admire the members and all the Armys that have been with them through all of this, it's certainly not easy but I'm sure it has made a change. I know is difficult to feel hopeful after watching these things, but I have seen small changes happening around me, just the other day a teacher, who thinks that modern music is not good anymore, decided to play some BTS songs before starting the class and the whole class enjoyed it. I was surprised to see this happening in a western country where gender stereotypes are strongly present, and racism has been normalized, my classmates usually didn't mind the songs our teachers choose but they also didn't like it. Watching them enjoy our boys' music and saying wonderful things about them give me a little bit of hope. The road is still long and surely there will be many obstacles to overcome but something is certain, and it is that things are slowly changing so let's keep cheering the members and sharing their music and their message to the world, it is the best that we can do.

Disclaimer; I'm not a history buff or expert of any sort... but I do know that Skorea was invaded and subjugated by Japan prior to the US getting into WWii. They were not only a military power, but also a colonial power in the sense that the Korean language was not taught in schools, only Japanese. Thank you for reacting to the video, it's actually the first time I watched it as well, and some of your reactions were the same as mine. The only difference is I have been following BTS since September 2013 (not the first month they debut but a few months later). So watching this video brought back all of the memories of everything that they have gone through and more. I remember some of the other fandoms when they started to win the accusations that they shouldn't of won. I even remember one award show I couldn't figure out at the time why they were not up for best dance group (I forget the actual award name) but one of the other big groups at the time was up for it, and they didn't even dance in the song, that was when I thought something didn't seem right or maybe I just didn't understand their award shows enough. The first time I saw BTS I wasn't sure about them (because I am not big into hip hop) and No more Dreams was more like that but when I heard Rise of Bangtan there was just something about them that caught my attention. That was when I needed to find out all of their names and found BANGTANTV and watched all of their videos, and had to go to other sites that would have english subs because not all of the videos they first made had English Subs. I remember wondering why people weren't talking about them and how good their music was. To this day I am still not sure when they blew up (and yes different people have different views of when it actually happened. All I remember is one release there wasn't a lot of us commenting on their videos (Back then you actually remember the names since they were the same one's :) and then on the next release it was massive the amount of fans they had. I think that must of been when my grandfather passed away and I just hadn't realized what was happening at that time. I know it sounds weird but I am old enough to be their parents and I have watched them grow up through these years into young man and I am amazed and proud of everything they have accomplished, and they still seem to be the same to me. Maybe a little older and wiser but they still are nice, fun and very appreciative of everything, and yes they have made mistakes or did something inappropriate, but if someone points it out to them they do try to learn from it. Sorry I got so sidetracked I could go on and on but your reaction is like mine why do people act the way they do, why were they jealous, why is their racism, why would someone want to hurt one of them I just don't get it either! All BTS has ever wanted to do was put out the music they love to create, and to perform for their fans it makes them happy, and the fans happy.

And about Japan, they occupied a lot of countries, a lot in Asia. They committed serious atrocities and maltreatment of the people including women. Especially with Korea, since these 2 countries are so close to each other, I understand Japan even annexed Korea to be part of them. And even the sea in between them is in dispute. Korea calls it East Sea, being on its east while Japan calls it Sea of Japan. And if you were not aware, even the Super Tuna song of Jin was criticized by the ultra right netizens of Japan with its lyrics of "the east sea, the west sea, where could my fish be". They complained why the song used east sea. So ridiculous. Doesn't the east and west pertain to the direction and not specific to that sea they are disputing. In the first place, there is even no west sea so reference was really the direction.

The misogynistic lyrics were relating to War of Hormone - a tongue in cheek song that pokes fun at teenage boys when their hormones start to go wild. The lyrics in question were a mistranslation - instead of "Girls are like a maths equation we have to solve" - translated as "Girls are like a maths equation we just do 'em" I have always loved the song and could never understand why people didn't realise the satire. As a woman I found the lyrics funny and cute. It was a beatup by the media (You have to realise there werre many people who did not want BTS to succeed as they would prove the current status quo in the industry was invalid.) RM suffered a lot of depression after that, second guessing his lyrics - that people would not understand his true intentions. Interesting fact - Kudos and respect to PD Bang - he was offered a fortune to sell BTS to other labels - if he did that he would have been rich but BTS would have been shelved and never heard of again. Now that would have been a tragedy!! The industry did not want BTS who were succeeding without them. Even so called fan wars were agitated by the agencies where other fandoms would gang up to attack BTS and ARMY. Ridiculous to think that is actually a thing. As far as ARMY have always been concerned - other people are free to support whoever they want - we just want to be left alone so we can immerse ourselves in BTS. We don't organise breaking comebacks of other bands or attacking their members or fans - I can't understand their disdain and hatred of us. Truly mindboggling.

There is a line on the song that varies a bit according to translators, but the gist of it is "I'm 18, I know everything I need to know". If that's not a sign of the satirical tone of the song... I don't know what else anyone would need to catch that

I read a comment somewhere saying that even though the song seems playful to most ppl, it may trigger others who may have gone through some 'experiences'. A girl had once written a comment saying that she had been bullied in school by ppl who were commenting on her body. So them speaking of similar things brought back memories of that, which made her shy away from listening to WOH. Until then I had thought the accusations were ridiculous esp when compared to music by other artists. But maybe we have been conditioned by society to accept many things as harmless. BTS themselves most probably had no intention of writing misogynistic lyrics and were unaware of these things I guess.
