♦️Jimin wrote the lyrics not only by himself, but was the only one to send his very first draft to the producers, and it was approved, so no need for a rewrite! The lie is the lie he keeps telling himself. Always in the past aiming for perfection and by doing so always questioning and second guessing himself! Although deep inside he knows better! The other lie is telling himself as well as everyone else that everything is alright when it's not!! Jimin has grown and changed, along with the other members since then. All learning to love themselves for who & what they are flaws and all! Jimin is now able to, as his song Promise says, shine the light on himself, as well, speaking up more when things bother him and allowing himself to laugh off whenever he makes any kind of mistake, knowing now he can always perfect or improve on whatever is lacking next time!!

@@lodeci Jimin has consistently a higher range than Jungkook and often hits the highest notes, he did let me know every concert during their tour, it is very much in his range. Jungkook has a high range, but he doesn't consistently hit notes as high as Jimin does, nor can he reach notes like Jimin's A5. Jin usually hits higher notes than Kookie too. But Jungkook is still the best vocalist on the group, because vocals aren't just about notes. Take for example the "I'll be missing you" cover, where Jin and Jimin just casually hit F5s a few times in the group singing part at the end, or ON where Jimin hits incredibly high notes in the "Na na na" part. I think you don't realise how high notes Jimin hits on every bts album, because he doesn't have as many highlighted high note moments anymore, and they are more often blended into the song. As well as Jimin already having a high voice and us just being used to Jimin hitting these incredible notes so often.

@@lodeci Sure, Jin, JK and V can get to certain high notes but quite frankly, you can tell they strain to get there…like they really have to ‘push’ to get there - Jin’s triple high note in Crystal Snow looked very uncomfortable - painful in fact and it DID look and sound very strained; like perhaps the way he did that was not proper technique. I suspect over time, it would damage his vocal chords. Jimin’s voice, on the other hand, NATURALLY SITS in that high range: he hits those notes effortlessly. And his voice is airy, and so unique it cuts through everybody else’s - you can hear him over the other 3. V has said he’s been given high notes (from Pdogg) that he didn’t want to sing because it was so difficult and didn’t think he could do it. He often sounds like he’s straining at certain high notes. Jin also has said he sometimes struggles with those high notes and that Jimin does have the highest range. JK has tried to sing Filter and he stops because he can’t sustain those high notes through the whole song…same with Serendipity. Jimin has proven himself to be a world class singer a hundred times over and that’s evident by the amount of respect and admiration he receives from experts in the global music industry. If you can’t see his voice is one of the best and on a whole other level, that’s your problem, it’s not because of him.

"LIE" the live performance is the very first time I had ever heard of Jimin, and from there, BTS. I watch dance videos & it was pushed to me while recovering from COVID-19. His vocals & dancing made me find out about him, which led me to BTS. The BEST DAY OF MY LIFE, I'll have you know. It still remains my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE song from him, (them). The lie I lived with for most of my life is that "I'm Ok." No one ever suspected what I was going through; no one saw through the facade. It lasted for 40 years, and then.....I broke. It came as quite a shock to people. I think the "LIE" BTS members may live with is how they are perceived by the outside, as performers, and who they really are, (or want to be). The personas they have to maintain for the public and who they are in (real) private times. I am glad that they are able to express themselves and are real proponents of mental health. It makes it more acceptable, and, I hope, helps them as well. They are genuinely kind, talented, amazing men. Please bear in mind, this is just an opinion, I am not speaking for them....it is not my intention. It's just a thought. I loved the reaction!

What I will say tho, is that Jimin's voice is naturally high so the vocal tones and pitches he hits in both his own songs and in group and unit songs are in his natural range. I know exactly what Lo means, but singing outside of your "range" won't damage your voice if you sing correctly. I'm personally a natural alto, but in choirs, I sing as a Soprano 1. This is because I've been classically trained as a Soprano, so while my natural voice is an alto, I can hit those higher notes with ease due to how I've trained my vocal cords. Jimin has also received vocal training, which is why if you compare his high notes from older group songs to his high notes now, there's an ease to his voice that wasn't there before. They also all choose their own parts so any notes that jimin hits, he chose. But I love the fact that Lo actually knows wtf he's talking about and cares about Jimin's vocal folds. Jimin's voice is super interesting tho, because even when he was straining more in songs, he still hit the notes with a clear tone. I also think that because he has a naturally rasp to his vocal tone, he can get away with more tones. Jimin does hit more raspy notes, growls, and uses his lower register in their earlier works as well as in some of there more recent music, but he does seem to stay in the pocket of higher pitches.
@hjban29773 жыл бұрын
👍👍👍 Sometimes, many of us forget that Jimin has never received any professional long term vocal training until this Covid pandemic break(not like all other BTS members who has received professional vocal training in advance for 2-4 years) & I think during this pandemic break, Jimin’s vocal has improved the most, especially with his new found confidence in his vocal abilities. It was shock for many Army when Earlier this year, during the interview in Korean TV show call ‘U-Quiz on the block’, BTS members & Jimin has finally confirmed that Jimin really didn’t receive any proper vocal training that all other BTS members has received because he was just a trainee. And I think during these ‘LIE’ period, Jimin was still struggling a lot with his own vocal & trying to find his own methods & vocal techniques all by himself. Around ‘Wings’ era, Jimin even have mentioned once in magazine interview that his strongest wish is to have at least 3 months break from everything so he could get professional training & prepare himself to be better idol. It makes me so upset to think how Jimin has been struggling mostly by himself with all their hectic schedules while getting all those hate & criticisms from BTS anti & toxic solo stans. It always makes me wonder what if Jimin also has received those 2-4 years of professional vocal training in advance before BTS debut, just like other BTS members. I would believe that Jimin would definitely be even more a fantastic vocalist right now!

Jimin's higher register is the most suited for BTS songs, as Jungkook and Tae (apart from the rappers) fill the lower registers quite well, and it is his signature sound. Jimin I'd say is a pure tenor, is range is probs between E4 and C#5 ??? probs can go a bit higher? His lower range tends to be throaty. Jimin wrote the lyrics himself, and helped with production, his first draft was approved immediately. The song is about the lies he tells himself, how he would tell himself he did bad and how he would punish himself over mistakes no one else noticed, his obsession with perfection. It's a song Jimin actually doesn't like, he wrote Promise, years later, as an answer in a way for Lie. A promise to take care of himself and be easy on himself. Also, the song is in minor, but "caught in a lie" is in a Picardy Third, the happiest sound perse, basically pretending to be happy while one is sad.

Jimin wrote this. The lie is what his insecure self tells him about himself. It’s his struggle to break free from his insecurities the negative messages. It was suppose to be a really dark song. Thank goodness I think RM moved him away from that. His pitch is naturally high. He opens his mouth and high notes come out. He is not ruining his voice, I appreciate Lowe caring. Jimin has more control over his vocal cords and he emits notes that most men can’t. I think V who has the widest range- has to be more careful when he sings falsetto. But you hear Jimin easily transition from head to chest voice and use a mixture. In the beginning, since he did not receive vocal training it was hard on his throat for some high notes. The truth untold-there is a concert and he’s ill, but he still tries to perform. Well, the pain became so bad, he was in tears on stage. The crowd sang his part of the song. It was beautiful and sad. He’s not that Jimin anymore. He has vocal control. He’s not damaging his chords. There are about Five coaches who react and none have Indicated he is ruining his voice. They are all in awe and stop to find the key he is singing. I am so proud of Lowe, thinking of Jiminahh. Those high notes in the early days, ended up saving BTS in a way. They stood out. Jimin went from being undervalued, and kind of dismissed to essential, very necessary. RM even says to him once, thank you Jimin without you we would not have come this far. He has been voted the number idol for a couple of years. Number one dancer three years in row. Number one in brand confidence. It really takes every braincell to pick up on the hints. I've rewatch it 5+ times + reaction videos by pros, and each time I discover something new. It is SO WELL MADE! If you ever decide to look at them and go all the way in, look at everything: lighting, sounds, camera angles, clothing, use of colour, camera quality, metaphors, movie/culture/art/philosophy references, pairings (who), time stamps, easter eggs etc. ... the list goes on. You’re right Curt, temptation is part of the concept of the whole Wings album from which Lie is taken. Its based on Herman Hesse’s novel Demian which tells a story about a young boy’s journey to self-realization, and finds himself caught up between temptation of the flesh and religious redemption. It revolves around dealing with two opposing forces within him: the good and the bad, the truth and the lie, which Jimin sings about in this track. It’s like an inner fight between his two sides. There’s so much to unpack and the context can be better understood if you know how the Bangtan Universe fictional storyline goes or at least the novel Demian. Also the orchestra part in the beginning gives off the vibe of a conflicted mind which Jimin seems to be having in the song.

As you start from the present of whatever time you discovered them and go back it almost feel as who Jimin was trying to personify to fit BTS concepts was not really comfortable for him and not trying to say he was being fake or not being hisself because I don’t know Jimin personally but the Wings era he brought this sensuality and confidence that people NOTICED!!!! when this era began, and ever since then that version of him never left. And it was really in the Wings era where ‘The Jimin Effect’ (though it has always been there since debut), really took off. You noticed the confidence even when people were checking him out on the street and it was a Jimin that we hadn’t (well I hadn’t as the wave of Army’s who came in during the Run/INU/YF era) seen before.

I've been resonating with this song for the past 3 years and it hasn't been getting better. It's something I struggle with everyday because it's how I've been raised. The only difference that was made was that I finally realized the problem, the "lie" and I'm still to this day trying to fix myself and remove the lie that I've been so used to living with. It's honestly a painful and scary journey to be in. But it's different for everyone including Jimin. Everyone struggle differently with the lie they house themselves in.

Interesting analysis! Another iconic song by Jimin. His voice is especially incredible in this song. The lyrics just sound so dark and personal... the song's background could be about anything that he was going through, but I like the analysis from the two guys on the right a lot 👍

I love this song for so many reasons but musically, when it switches to a major - after starting and living in minor - is so shocking and magical.

It's a song about lying to yourself... Negative self-talk, being hyper critical, self-hatred, confusion, not seeing yourself clearly or kindly... The lyrics are open enough to interpretation to be able to relate to it in different and personal ways, but that's the core feeling.

Well, one of the things that always strikes me…the Wooah, sounds so very Louisiana voodoo to me. Throw that influence into having to live a lie, captured in a lie. It adds further darkness into the mix that I treasure. Yeah, Love this piece!

Mostly army comment about Jimin's vocal improvement. For me, all artist in this world have to gain their self improvement. That's good. But Jimin has beautiful voice since debut. His hibger range, but dreamy low voice. Even, he has powerful growling. Jimin has incredible voices since debut! That's why he selected as Lead Vocalist, one of most important position in group! Thanks y'all did reaction for "Lie"

If I'm not wrong the lie that Jimin is referring to in this song is the lie he keeps telling himself. I remember hearing that because Jimin was the last to join BTS, therefore had the shortest training period. He always felt insecure about his singing skills and overall training compared to the other members, and that he wasn't good enough, that was the lie Jimin and kept telling himself over and over again. He's long since overcome that feeling and now recognizes his own talent and has become more confident. He accepted himself and his own unique quality and talents that aren't like the other members. Jimin as he is amazing!!😊

I agree with both comments in this video....technically, Jimin doesn't have the strongest voice in the group but emotionally...his voice hits you hard and deep in the emotions. And for me...that's way more important. As someone who grew up around Black gospel singers who can sing a song so well it will bring you to your knees on a Sunday morning...and NONE of them would be considered technically perfect singers, I am quite comfortable saying that I much prefer a singer who can take me to place like that than one who can do perfect scales. By no means am I saying Jimin sounds like a gospel singer...I'm saying he can create the same level and type of emotion with his singing and his delivery AND he can transfer that energy to the people watching him. THAT is much harder to do than singing a perfect note.

I agree with all the vocal ranging discussion except for Jins. Jin has the perfect voice for Ballad in my opinion, out of all the members- he does ballads the best. Like The Truth Untold and Epiphany. Its just that there isnt a lot a lot of ballads in his solo discography. V is perfect for neosoul rnb, Jimin and Jungkook both have range but their voice is versatile so they can make a lot of the songs they sing sound good by simply sticking to the appropriate range. Jin's voice is the ballad- through and through, imo. Anyways, loved this reaction and panel discussion 😊💜 Happy Jimin Day!

I don’t think jimin sings out of his natural style most of the time. I think people have an idea of where his voice lies but him in Jin kind of go in the same range (tho Jin can go lower) but I think it’s a little stretch to be like most songs are out of his range. Jimin did in fact have a back ground in hip hop(not vocally but dance wise he did dance hip hop
@fansfollowers34583 жыл бұрын
I say this because listening to him randomly sing in generally I feel like his parts fit his style of voice as well as bts songs actually being in a higher key BECAUSE of jimin and Jin
@lela10023 жыл бұрын
I agree, I'm a relatively new army so I wasn't there for all their transformations but I did wonder why a lot of army keep claiming Jimin is singing outside his natural register and how beautiful his "true" lower voice is etc. like he said Home was totally in his comfort zone and very easy for him to sing, he lost lines in Blue&Grey bc it was too low for him, BTS have said they often have to raise keys for Jin and Jimin and when Jimin sings casually/for fun in e.g. run bts he always sings pretty high
@lightefilit3 жыл бұрын
@@lela1002 people might confuse their singing voices and speaking voices. Jimin's speaking voice is much lower compared to his singing one, but he does usually sing comfortably. Doesn't mean that he can't sing low notes (some of his lower singing is a masterpiece) or that he constantly sings only high notes and falsetto. He usually sings in tenor and head voice, which is singing-wise natural for him ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@muse06133 жыл бұрын
@@lightefilit Exactly. Finally a comment thread that speaks sense. Speaking voice is not equivalent to singing voice, people need to realise that. Even if Jimin's voice sounds deep it still has a really bright tone to it and so does his singing. If we listen to the studio version save me and the tiny desk save me, it's the same scale, it's just that his voice has transformed with practice over the years, it has gotten more fluid and brighter if that makes sense.

I love this song! It’s one of my favorites by Jimin. Jimin had a really tough time during his trainee days and he blamed himself a lot for his shortcomings especially vocally and this song came out of this inner battle within himself. His vocals on this song are breathtaking and draws you in!!!
