You were right on the shadow reference is directly related to the writings of Carl Jung. Actually as you hear more and more of their music you will see more and more references to the persona, the ego and the shadow and it is partially due to the fact that RM is a student of Carl Jung.

Yep,! This one too! These guys are serious dancers, even those not in the dance line. A masterpiece is the right description. The only previous thing I can compare it to is Bohemian Rhapsody.

@2:25 since you mentioned Peter Jackson and battle,etc- you really should watch the original MV to this song. This is their secondary MV. The original MV is just called ON. It’s like an epic film. I really appreciate your analysis on the lyrics. You are spot on.

The front center young lady is the choreographer for this this song. Her name names is Sienna Laulau and was only 19 years old and well known hip hop dance scene. The dance crew is the Lab based in LA. BTS also hired a gospel group from LA and a part of the UCLA marching band. The beat in the dance break was composed by Suga many years ago. Epic performance.

This is one of my top BTS songs. I listen to it often, particularly on those extra-sluggish, low energy days. Back in 2018, they briefly considered disbanding due to exhaustion and burnout, but discussed it among themselves and recommitted instead. To me, the first verse with Jimin & V refers to that deep mental & physical exhaustion: “Standing up my body is reeling”. “I can’t understand what people are saying” & “Where is this place that I open my eyes to” can be interpreted literally as describing their worldwide schedule (constantly traveling to different countries & hearing multiple languages) but also as being so tired it’s difficult to focus and/or “be present”. Even if you’re not a superstar, it’s a very relatable feeling.

Don't know if you had that commented yet, but since you mentioned Carl Jung: Their albums Map of the Soul: Persona and Map of the Soul: 7 are partially based on Carl Jung's theories. They include a trilogy of songs, Intro: Persona, Interlude: Shadow and Outro: Ego respectively, dealing with that.

ON is the sequel and partial resolution to the existential anxiety expressed in Black Swan, which is very much a ‘shadow’ song. Both are parts of a long, multi-album sequence exploring the psychology of Carl Jung, the philosophy of Nietzsche and the writing of Herman Hesse as a way of navigating their complex, stressful and sometimes confusing lives. ‘Outro: Tear’ (2018) is the song that marks the watershed for them. These later songs from Map of the Soul are them contextualising the pain they went through and plotting their way forward. They struggled hugely between 2017 and 2019 with the pressures of the success they were experiencing. It was earned success but had by then required incredible focus and commitment for many years. They were getting overwhelmed and had no time off, at all… Taehyung recently said he even considered the desirability of getting injured as a way of taking a break.

I loved the lyric break down, really appreciate that you took the time to understand what they are saying, as much as I love their music and performances I think their lyrics is 50% of what makes them special. Btw RM is probably talking about karl yung’s shadow, since this song is from their map of the soul 7 album.

@@Bite-SizeReactions I honestly believe that you have a gift for it, and I don’t say that lightly. Your reactions are always genuine and I can see how you want to understand the meaning behind their songs. Often BTS are exploring the inner psyche like the id, ego, and superego, or the shadow parts of ourselves. I’m an integrated therapist which means that I integrate many different types of psychological theory into my theoretical orientation. The human psyche is fascinating to learn about to understand how it functions. Props to you for doing your own reading and research to better understand it. Our own personal journey is in understanding all parts of ourselves, and sometimes that can be a struggle. Ultimately, BTS sings about these struggles to finally coming to a point of loving ourselves and speaking ourselves. What a beautiful journey it is.

Ready for battle! Watch the other official MV of this song.... The dance practices for performances of this song are epic. The back up dancers hype BTS up so much for the dance break. Thoroughly recommend watching one. The 2 albums from The Map of the Soul series called Persona and 7, do incorporate Jungian psychology of persona shadow and ego. You could do the three songs with those names in a series....

As you listen more and read and interpret lyrics you will learn that the majority of their songs have a message 💜 I loved hearing your thoughts on the lyrics. I can't explain it properly but I know you're on the right track of thinking about the song. Another song I feel you'd appreciate is Make It Right, both featuring Lauv and without Lauv, a western artist. They both have an mv you could watch too and I love both of them. So interesting, I always took "find me and I'm gonna bleed with ya" to be a call out to Army that we will all face the pain and hardships together but I like how you interpreted it to mean that they're gonna fight their enemies and both end up bleeding. 💜

Live performance of this is even better Check out the one at grand Central station. This was a gift MV because they couldn't preform this song due to covid... hence the kinetic version. They have an official MV for this song as well. Also their albums have themes and if listened to in order tell different stories.

I see them standing on the stage in darkness then the light's come up and I'm shaking scared of the auidence will be able to perform well for them? The audience in the darkness are my oxgyen and light the power the fans in the audience have for us give me the power. Two sided life as an person and as the Super Star artist. The power and the pain and bleeding together with his band mates and boy they've bleed, they've been unable to breath after coming off stage, falling and in physical pain from all the dancing and singing/rapping. But we'll bleed together fall and stand together.

There's a behind the scene it was really hot and V got hit in the eye with the zipper from what he was wearing it didn't look very nice but he carried on. They were all praising each other and encouraging each other.

This was supposed to be their last album of chapter 1 and they were supposed to start chapter 2 where they release solo albums and start military enlistment but then covid came and they stayed 2 more years with us.

I know ARMYs will be against it because MV on itself is a part of BU (BTS Universe - a multimedia original story comprised a series of Concept Music Videos, books, games, etc.), however, I would still love for you to watch 'I Need U' music video because it's one of my favourites (along with next one 'Run'). If you do decide to watch it without entering the BU, please make sure to watch the *I Need U (original version)* and remember that the lyrics of the song don't actually represent the MV's story 😊

Watch BTS HARDSHIPS by CELEST. you cannot imagine the multiple death threats. No real breaks one year they had 2 days off. The mistreatment. Being invited to perform then not being given a dressingroom so they had to dress and practice in front of the bathroom where other artists sneered at them. They experienced awful treatment by the industry because the larger industry hated and still hates the way BTS came up despite not having mainstream industry support. They constantly fought against discrimination. Unfair treatment. So they just tried to work to excel so they could prove themselves.

"I'm like a Boomer with technology". Ouch, that's harsh. Says the boomer. This is the first time I've noticed their actual shadows--started with them streaming behind them, and ended with the sun low in the left and the shadows off to the right. Given that we know it took two days to film, they were remarkably organized in keeping the shadows progressing in order over the shooting schedule. These guys really take pains, don't they?
