29:46 I think the reason she says "black music" instead of just hip hop is because it's not just hip hop. Black music includes: jazz, blues, r&b, hip hop, soul, neo soul, new jack swing, funk, gospel ECT and that's just black Americans music. There's also afro beats and rastafarian music And in the beginning kpop was inspired by alot of different types of "black music" (sometimes taking things way too far) and BTS was definitely inspired by all the different types of "black music". Edit: let's not forget "rock music" which I forgot to put down even though one of my favorite artists of all time is chuck berry lol smh 🤦🏾‍♀️

You forgot one other "black music" genre (from the U.S.) that became huge in its own right & that is rock music, aka rock & roll. And then, from rock music evolved metal music. There would be no Black Sabbath, Korn, Metallica, Trivium, Slipknot & even Seo Taiji, if wasn't for rock music, which is a style that progressed from blues music. Even Elvis Presley has/had become controversial in where many have said he inadvertently "stole" black music, making it "white" & getting rich & famous for it. In a way, there would be no KPop idol industry if it wasn't for rock/metal music, because Seo Taiji would not have gone into the path of being a musician in the first place. That is the big irony of the KPop idol industry, that it derived indirectly through inspiration & impetus from Taiji, who is first & foremost a metal musician, yet KPop sounds mostly pop, RnB & electronic, all because the influences came from his Taiji & Boys band, which sounded more like hiphop-rap-rock rather than just rock. The other inspiration & template that was founded from his Boys band is singing+dancing. There are no other music industries in the world that have the big niche of singing+dancing as in KPop, except perhaps live stage musicals (Broadway etc) & Bollywood. We are talking heavy choreography here. BTS has done some tiny elements of rock music, like in "Danger", or J-Hope's "More", but rock has not been something much that BTS has delved into because that is not their forte. But we have seen a young JK lipsync to Linkin Park, heh. I would certainly hope that BTS gets a little more rock music elements into their music before they retire entirely. That would certainly help gain more rock music fans into BTS, which rock/metal fans are a huge global population in their own right, which would then increase the size of ARMY.

@@robwebnoid5763 oh I know about the history of rock music. I grew up on chuck berry, fat domino, Rosetta tharpe,bo diddley, lil, richard, Jay Hawkins aka "screamin" Jay Hawkins ECT.(I just forgot to put it in my post 🤷🏾‍♀️lol I always forget something when I post stuff) smh🤦🏾‍♀️ Thanks for the reminder, imma update my post 🤗 P.S. I definitely feel the same about wanting to see more rock influence in the music.it would be so fun. I love their stuff regardless but I love seeing music influence from other genres blend together. And bts in my opinion is able to do that very well

The second I heard them say "Why are they calling it black music?" I was about to write a similar post. Many don't realize or have forgotten that most modern music genres came from slave songs and that kpop don't only use hip hop and rap.

I think she said black music because it’s not just hip hop that is used (even though that is shown in the video), they also use r&b and soul throughout kpop. So kpop is inspired by multiple types of black music.

Yup, they've even used afro beats and have some gospel inspired music. JHope used a gospel chior for his live performance of his song "MAMA" and BTS also used a black chior for their song "on"

I loved she said black music. Black girl here. No problem whatever . That's definitely a pride considering how black people are now excluded even from categories they created. I loved she said black music and not just the genre

I feel like Bighit are truly the only ones who understand the road that BTS made. Like their junior group TXT always acknowlage their privilege as BTS younger brothers (this is literally what they said days ago while promoting their new album that comes out in a few days: "The TXT leader also added that the reason why his group has grown ambitious is their seniors, BTS. He candidly admitted, “We want to become a group that follows the footsteps of BTS sunbaenim.” Ever since their debut, TXT have never shied away from admitting they look up to their seniors and want to follow in their footsteps to create their own artistic legacy.") (Oh and the youngest member said in an interview that came out today that his goal is to write more of their songs. And to make songs like BTS - Butterfly and BTS - Spring day; because that are the songs that touched him the most and he wants his fans to feel the same way about his song that he feels about these songs. (But his songs are gonna be more band style because that is what he prefers to create)). (The TXT leader also said that he talked to RM and that RM is the best leader who thinks deep and plans a lot. But that he can't be like RM, so his goal is to be a comfortable person for his members to be with) Basically Bighit and TXT seems like they are the only ones who want to have the same impact as BTS while also being clear and being comfortable with being different from BTS and have no desire to copy them. I mean if we even look at their debuts it is clear: BTS debuted with No more dream, a hiphop song about opression and dreams. While they were dressed in badass black with chains. While TXT debuted with a cheerful, fun colorful song about the pain of becoming a teenager and growing up. Like even how Bighit made TXT is completly different from BTS. BTS became known for their strong rap line, while TXT don't have ANY rappers, yes they have members who CAN rap, but they aren't rappers and they don't label themselfs as ones.

Their method of resolving issues and not having egos should be practiced for all in personal and professional relationships not just K-pop. In the music industry how many groups and duo’s broke up because of this. No they don’t speak English perfectly. RM is the only one who speaks English fluently. BTS paved the way for K-pop to be popular in the US. They are not the first to be on the American shows even though some K-pop groups have tried however their weren’t able to sustain the popularity in the US. Until BTS K-pop really didn’t focus on popularizing to the western market. They focused on Asia because they never imagined the western market would be interested.BTS doesn’t do arenas, too small. They sell out stadiums in minutes. Lets be real “black music “ is more than hip hop. R&B, jazz, rap, soul, etc.

Here in Latin America Lady Gaga is known by EVERYONE (young to old), Taylor Swift is just know generally by younger females and Drake is not really famous here, at least I've never heard someone mention him.....so I don't know about your assumption about Gaga.

Some of the sound of this vid is a little garbled. BTS creates ca. 0,5% of SK's GDP (5.0 Billion USD). That was at least the latest number I heard. The better known number was a few years older with 0,3% (and I'm not sure what that amounted to back than). And "black music" because alomst all modern genres of music - which are also part of the Idol sound - have at least some roots in "black music" if they are not outright the majority of the genre. It isn't about "believing" for the Big3 that BTS/Big Hit/HYBE is bigger than them. It is about rank. Big Hit was an Indie/no name label. BTS was considered "dirty spoons" (MicDrop) and as such the utter most bottom and looked down upon. You could look at it as a peasent considered more important than the ruler of the same powerful country or a simple civilian demanding to speak to the Pope/God. Let's call it hubris and arrogance. In their eyes rank is not changeable because Big Hit had neither inherited money nor power/rank. I do think that pointing out Jin who is an introvert is a bit mean. JK for example has Idol friends that are all born in the same year as him. He was even accused going on a bar crawl with them during the pandemic which turned out not to be true. but they did meet. There is also friendship between some BTS members and BigBang members like Taeyang mentioned in Suchwita Ep. 3. Not to mention that Taehyung had friendification version of "In the Soop" last summer. Tricky for people to meet when the pandemic is still going till now and quiet a few of the same-age Idols are also doing their service. (Now it is getting better in SK.) Also BTS is not on these music shows anymore and the majority of them played hooky at the award shows the last few years so it is pretty much impossible to meet them with the camera rolling (except labelmates) . ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thank you for watching and commenting! 💜

Really you guys need to stop with who is globally and just watch the video. My geeze ! The only artists that is globally in U.S in over 200 counties, is just MJ and Elvis . BTS are the 3rd from South Korea that's it. Most of all those artists you mentioned are well known only in America. This is not a video about all your American who is popular and who's not. This is a video about BTS and kpop ! STOP ! pausing for saying which american artists is most popular in america.
