I live in Wisconsin, one of the Midwest states in the USA. We have one of the US’s worst drunk driving policies. If nothing life threatening really happens when you are caught, it’s basically a slap on the wrist. you get three strikes before you get your license revoked. Three times you can get black out drunk and bump a tree in ur neighborhood, (paying for damages)but you get nothing for it. Drinking here is so imbedded into the state that if you go to a bar with your parents. As long as your parents are the ones buying and the child isn’t “that young” they can drink.

The one caveat VPN sponsored ppl never mention is that- ***you get local content from the perspective of a LOCAL**! You won't have English subtitles on any Kdramas or Anime etc when viewing from its native country. It's not just Asia. When I switch to France to watch more French films, there are no English subtitles and often no native language subtitles (i.e. French or if watching from Korea, Korean). It's really interesting because here in America I can usually turn on closed captioning English subtitles (I'm sure because of our disability laws) but when I lived in Korea and France I didn't really see these options (and I can read/speak French and Korean). So just keep that in mind when trying to watch Ghibli movies on Japanese Netflix etc they don't consider foreigners in those markets. Native content are least likely to have subs of any kind

I don't think it's just a Korean issue, though. I think it comes down to society having greater expectations on how public, influential figures behave, compared to Government officials, who are working in a corrupt system and are quite corrupt individually. Basically, society knows the Government is not all shiny and sparkles, but expect just as much, if not more, from those who directly influence people. This is also because children and young adults largely form the fanbases to idols and other influencers, so there's this controlling sense that these figures need to act in a certain way that protects child innocence.

@K.G Yeah, you’d hope so, but policing what Government Officials do is not as easy as it should be. My wording for this is that public figures *directly* influence people through this false idea of perceived closeness and intimacy, but the Government *indirectly* influences people through the laws that they create. This makes the public, influential figures seem “touchable” and under your control if you do something to hurt them, but the Government seems “untouchable” and answers less to the public and more to their own party.

I sincerely don't think that will happen because the topics they discuss in the UN speech are always targeted towards young people and an specific topic, usually having to do with self love, against violence, etc. None of the topics of their speech have been directly political, they are not talking towards or against any political party or representative. If you see the topic provided by the UN, the subject they will treat in their speech this year has nothing to do with politics. Second, I honestly don't think this will happen in the future either. When they want to criticize society or politics, they have proven to be fearless about it. And even if laws and politicians have tried to silence them (as an example, Spring day and the Sewol Ferry incident when media was heavily censored by the former president) they always find their way through to send their message. They have addressed these kind of things on multiple of their songs and complete albums since their debut.

They're kept at a secure office and you have to request it and explain why you need it and then give it back when you return from travelling. It's to stop people from using it for personal travel and abusing the privileges. Maybe it's different for diplomatic passports though.

I mean, diplomatic immunity need to be address though. This is out of topic but do you remember the us diplomat wife hit a boy in UK and killed him escaped to us with her "diplomatic immunity"? And i think she's still not legally charged with any crime because of that stupid immunity. *(Please correct me if i'm wrong Btw your aftershow was 5am in saturday in my time zone LOL 😪😴

Yes. I was going to mention this. She was driving on the wrong side of the road and killed a young boy. The parents obviously want her to come back to face a trial and think the Government are trying to help.

You are correct. This matter is currently under legal process. You are referring to Harry Dunn who died as a result of Anne Sacoolas driving on the wrong side of the road. Initially A S claimed diplomatic immunity through her husbands D I . I am reluctant to say more about what is purported to have/have not occurred. It’s an utterly tragic situation in which a young man lost his life. I and many others offer heartfelt condolences to his family for their loss and continuing struggle. In general imho the concept of D I is rather worrying and has been possibly used on other occasions as a means of avoiding retribution for far worse than shoplifting. I am not making any comment of a negative nature re S K and/or BTS members, my regards thereto are completely of highest regard.

They gave the speech in Korean and made a music video in what at least appears to be the UN. I think the latter is a bigger flex. I know Hybe likes to make it look like they are recording one place when it really is somewhere else. However, even having permission to make it look like the UN is a huge Flex.

As for the drunk driver she was guilty period. All she had to do is really show remorse and be humble enough to apologize especially to her young fans who are following her and she should be able to realize why people would be upset for she has all the access to free rides or even pay a lousy ubar for the evening but her response made more people upset.... to all important people and those who think they are just talk less stay away from the media especially when you have issues going on..

I don't see why Lizzy had to go on her Instagram and start crying. Was she expecting sympathy or something? While most people agree that hate comments are uncalled for I don't know if she was expecting to receive lovely comments and lots of support. To me it seem a like she cares more about her career than the victim or potential victims. Her saying something so nonchalant that the victim wasn't even badly hurt doesn't paint her in a good light at all. It's like she doesn't even care and all she cares about is her image. Drunk driving is no joke and she herself even said it in the past. I really don't understand why she even did it. Like you said she has more than enough at her disposal to hire a designated driver. That would have been the best solution or to even get a taxi. She knew what she was doing and although the drink probably inhibited her though process, if you know you're going out to drink don't bring your car or make arrangements on how to get home before hand. What she did was really irresponsible and hypocritical. Especially as someone in the public light she should have taken better care of her actions. I'm not saying that non celebrities don't drink and drive but she knew what position she was in but she didn't care about her career then. So there is absolutely no sense in her crying about it now on her live. She deserves at least some amount of cristiscm. I don't agree with death threats but don't expect people to be sounding you praises.

There's a video of Lizzy somewhere from when she was on a show with fellow Afterschool member Uee. In the clip Uee poses at the behest of the hosts (one of which is Park Narae) and Lizzy randomly interjects saying her own body is better while posing. I saw this clip a long time ago but it remember it because of how awkward and inappropriate it was. After watching today's news I was reminded of the video and went to go find it but I haven't been able too and it's really bugging me. I'm starting to think I've lost it and made it all up in my head. Does anyone happen to know the clip I'm talking about?

The concept is called Diplomatic Immunity. It's to prevent hostile nations from using made up charges to threaten or hold hostage diplomatic staff from adversarial nations. The concept of diplomatic immunity means holding staff of a foreign official mission is considered a naked act of aggression that can be considered justification for war.

So, does envoy status open the door for the president to exempt them from military duty? I don't know korean laws or korean presidential powers, and not expressing preference either way. Just asking, whether the "envoy" status enables the president to make the executive decision on this matter. Thx!

I haven't heard of any recent debates on this topic, but last I heard they wanted to partake in their military duty, no? Another comment I saw says something along the same lines, and that 'wouldn't BTS going to the military put them in harms way, especially now with their upgraded, diplomatic status'? Not my opinion, but definitely interesting!

There is the Cabinet that must approve it, This must first go through the legislators. The Ministry of Defence must also agree to it. Its something that cant just happened overnight. Draw up a new legislation or make amendmends to the current defence act.

@@beany1944 yeah they will discuss it but not sure when. But it will take a long time since it's not only about bts but other career too (?) I don't really remember about tht issue but the thing is if they approve it, it'll be applied to other career like bts smth like that. I don't really mind if they want to go. It's really a sensitive issue in s.korea so if korean men are okay with it, so I think it'll be ok if they get exempt. It's not about bts as a bts but bts as a korean men. Both south and north are still in war. We as a foreigner, we don't have any right to order s.korea about what they need to do in this situation. Whatever the result, I'll support them. If they need to go military I hope they'll go together not one by one but yeah no one know what will happen in the future so I hope army let's just support them no matter what happen.

Lizzy just had to stay out and shut up for a while, yet she chose to put on her CC earrings and cry about her life being over on Instagram, the privilege stinks. I’ve always said that companies controlling socmed for idols/celebs is the best thing for them, none of them can be trusted with it because they implode when they’re on it and they are also exposed to hate.

People should be considerate when driving. It may cause damage and death to the other parties that may get involve because of once recklessness. It just annoys me. Almost died multiple times because of those people. Ughhh.
