Most of them were teenagers and as usual for BTS they wrote about what they were feeling at the time. Compared to some US songs about women this is absolutely nothing. They took a lot of flack for this one and RM even suffered from depression over it. To ARMY it is a cute song that is very catchy, it showed that they had normal teenage emotions.

I am happy they wrote this song. It shows they are normal like 100 billion other people. Please dont use Korean culture as an excuse that the lyrics are not acceptable. The title "War of Hormones" says it all. They had a lot of backlash from the lyrics of this song which is part of the hardships and struggles they went through in their early years. Because they were criticized so much, RM felt depressed and I believe that he wanted to run through some lyrics to other song with a professor of women's studies before putting out future songs related to the opposite sex. (ARMY please elaborate if you got more info.) Nevertheless, the song is definitely catchy and a part of their journey and learning experience into becoming who they are today: BTS. Like RM said during his UN speech: "...I'm learning to embrace who I was, who I am and who I will become..." 😭 Embracing his past, present and future ➡ the map of his Soul!!...the road to "individuation" as defined by Psychologist Carl Jung ➡ inspiration for their current album: Map of the Soul 7. Everything connects! Music & Art for healing...Bighit's intro for every MV since their debut in 2013. 😭👍💜🎶 #ARMYsince2014

It was a fun early song meant to portray how young males view girls, much in line with Boy In Luv. Certain antis, most notably EXO fans and SM Entertainment , perceiving BTS might challenge EXO for attention and even predominance spread a rumor of misogyny on BTS's part. School boy imagery was already being subjected to plagiarism accusations by SM and these antis so this hit BTS, particularly RM hard. This song has basically hit the trash heap in response and in my view needs resurrection. It is a statement on the folly of young guys, not girls per se. The recent juxtaposition of Boy IN Luv with Boy With Luv bespeaks how BTS now wants to make the contrast between youthful love and mature love part of their messaging.

Talking about the reaction back then. At that time people in Korea, in general were arguing about sexism and some extreme people were offended by this song bcz it was talkng about female's attractive appearance like the physical things. This song got so much backlash for no reason other than people were looking for anything to hate on BTS with. There were plenty of other Kpop songs at the time that used even worse terms and analogies for women and no one got upset over those to the same extent. Plus some American music talks about women in bad ways yet tons of people still hype those kinds of songs. I think this song is sweet yet sassy cuz the lyrics are either a full poetic verse or simply playful. The term boys will be boys comes to mind, they were only expressing very trufully what young men feel and struggle with. Also people rarely criticize girls for calling guys hot or handsome in songs, the double standard is real. Their concept at the beginning had been them being "bad boys" or "delinquents" (Reason for them being so outspoken, seen dressed in leather/chains/messy school uniforms, or being rough with girls) and it carries on into their Bangtan Universe, thus the reason I will say all their videos connect. The first school trilogy albums set up the characters of the boys before having to grow and deal with more adult life problems. Also there is connecting footage from the "Danger" MV shown later in the WINGS short films, as well as many early album/MV references in RM's Persona, Suga's Shadow, and JHope's Ego, and among other era MV's.
@m-50894 жыл бұрын
I really love how you can see how much they have grown from young boys to admirable men over the years. They were just teenagers when they wrote this song and really didn't deserve the intense backlash they received for it. Yes, even 17-year-old me was put off by the lyrics when the song was first released but I knew that they had no ill intentions. Seeing how they really took the criticism (and hate) seriously and reflected on how some people misinterpreted it really shows how much they listen and care about the messages they share with the world. As others have mentioned, Namjoon contacted a professor of women studies to educate him and to review his lyrics to prevent a situation like this from happening again. Not many artists (especially western artists who proudly objectify women) would own up to their mistakes and learn from them as they have.

M - Yeah but the thing is nothing was wrong with the song and it wasn’t a mistake just people wanting to dump on them.
@m-50894 жыл бұрын
NekoCassie That’s very arguable. Some women (not haters, I’m talking about armys and the gp) were genuinely not fond of some of the lines in the song and found it offensive. There were also some who were fine with it, but not every woman is the same and we all have the right to voice our opinions.
@darkneko6664 жыл бұрын
M - Of course we should but I’m just going to disagree with finding anything wrong with this song since I heard worse from male and female artists and what they said in the song wasn’t even bad.
@m-50894 жыл бұрын
NekoCassie Like I said, there are artists out there who write blatantly misogynistic and offensive lyrics about women which is why I believe that they didn’t deserve the hate at all. But I do believe that the constructive criticism was needed. In their apology, they say that it was eye opening learning about women’s experiences and mention some of the things that they didn’t know prior to educating themselves about issues that women face. They even wrote a feminist anthem afterwards showing how much they’ve matured. Just because there are worse things being said, it doesn’t automatically make the lesser things good. Also, you may not find it offensive but others will as people interpret things differently.
@darkneko6664 жыл бұрын
M - yes and that’s just what it all is a person interpreting but I get what you mean I also know why they suddenly got hate for it given what they were going through at the time within kpop. So the war of hormones aren't really coming from them or their opinion, the lyrics are based on the young boys that think that way that are going through hormonic etc, or practically just men, they may seem uncomfortable but they are really meaningful, I just done some research right now, and they are basically putting it out there, it's not their way of thinking, it's kinda hard to explain, I can't find the write words for this.
@mimielyn4 жыл бұрын
Why not? They're guys... it was written from a guy's perspective. Even if it's "not coming from them" they'd have to have pulled from somewhere... themselves. Idk what you're trying to say but it makes no sense
@ipurpleyou52274 жыл бұрын
@@mimielyn i think they wanted to explain how BTS seems to make fun of themselves and of other teenage boys since they were in a phase of their lives where the hormones influence their behavior heavily. I think that's what they mean't by it. The actions or words don't come directly from them but their hormone flooded minds. You get it? I think that was what they were trying to explain. But they are not that good with english.

Mimielyn Shalom ye but do u really think they will write something so lewd shamelessly, even if they did it was all about youth, back then....

"War of Hormones" is from their Dark &Wild album. This song was accused of being misogynistic with lyrics "women are the best gift" and that they (women) "should wear high heels more often". Haters/Netizens thought BTS was objectifying women. BTS and BH apologize heavily for this song since that was not their intention and took full responsibility... RM has told us in Vlive that he is very conscious and second guesses himself a lot(gets very anxious). That he sends all of his lyrics to a feminist professors for review because he felt so bad for the song (WoH). Songwriter: Pdogg, SupremeBoi, RM, Suga, and Jhope... But their entire Dark&Wild album is a huge controversy with its theme and lyrics... truly its a gem but its very underrated. As for BTS being forward with their sexuality... you should really review RM's first mixtape and BTS pre-debut music. And for fun you should watch/react to A VERY RANDOM AND UNHELPFUL GUIDE TO BTS PERVERTED LINE for a good laugh.

I never heard anything about D&W being an issue as an album. Can you shed more light on this? It happens to be my favorite album. I AM aware of the grief over this song (which I think is ridiculous), but the album as a whole...that's a new one.

If you've never heard anything like this from them is because back then this song wasn't well accepted by public and the media, it actually created a lot of issues for Bighit and the members, specially RM for the lyrics of the song. But this song also made them grow and develop as a group, and as songwriters; basically their career as individuals and as a group also changed a lot because of this song.

BTS theme is always to portrait the stages of life like student life then teenage life and so on , so this is just the song which display one of the stage of men's puberty . I love this song it's very catchy I don't feel that there is any sexuality abusing compared to other songs where they use all kind of words

They have a couple of thirsty songs so it's not the only one. People said it backlash, depression, learning experience, female university teacher.. For me the "I burst my pimple" verse say it all, it's a fun song about hormone. But yeah they learned so just after they released 21th century girls, check it, it's super interesting how they learned from this one.

The song is cute and tons of women love it. Their boyish, kind of innocent charm is so natural and sincere. We need more fun songs. There is too much sadness and depression nowadays that we should appreciate this little ray of sunshine.

"This doesn't sound like something RM would write" Me: points you to Expensive Girl by RM.......all joking aside, a group of people demanded an apology for the lyrics of this song, saying that it was misogynistic....It devastated RM....he fell into a deep depression over it....ever since he has been so very careful about the lyrics that he consults professors of women's studies, etc to make sure his lyrics are ok and won't offend anyone. Personally, I have never had a problem with this song. What was supposed to be a fun/ catchy song describing teen boys' real struggle with their hormones during puberty turned into a nightmare for them. :(

What was my reaction when I saw this MV for the first time? Easy... OMG V spanked Jimin !!! O.O For the rest I loved the video, apart from the lyrics it is very well edited and the use of black and white with red color in certain details, the choreography, the gestures of the boys, I really liked everything XD But when it comes to the lyrics, we realize how much they have matured since their beginnings.

BTS had a reality show in LA called American Hustle Life. And they recorded a lot of the album Danger there. One of the songs the rap line wrote was War of Hormone. Bts are always pretty honest in their lyrics & a lot of fans speculated this sing was inspired by some of the things they experienced in LA on that show. Ahem... Anyways they were honest how they were feeling & kinda rosted themselves & how some dudes act & feel about women. I’m not saying there aren’t problems in this song with objectifying women. But a lot of antis & feminists in Korea really can for BTS again not saying it wasn’t warranted just that it seemed over the top. Anyways this was a learning experience for them especially RM who went on to say he consults with a women’s studies Professor when he writes lyrics. Although they have stayed away from these kind of topics since that incident
@dietotaku4 жыл бұрын
BTS wrote this song after their experience on American Hustle Life. When they worked with Warren G he had them cast some attractive local women to be in an MV reshoot for "Boy in Luv," and basically one or two whole episodes is about shooting that MV and how nervous they were around such beautiful women - JK couldn't stop sweating and when the girls would talk to him he would just apologize and run away squeaking unintelligibly, Tae was introducing the girl he cast trying to be all swag about it but when she hugged him he went "EEEEEEEE" mid-sentence, even Yoongi mentioned not being able to talk to them and constantly asking for water. It was goddamn adorable and I love that this song came out of it, it's one of my favorites in their discography (both musically and the MV and even the dance practices are legendary meme material), so it makes me extra mad that they got a bunch of hate being "misogynists" & "objectifying women" when there's literally euphemisms for jerking off in the lyrics. Like THEY WERE TEENAGE BOYS OF COURSE THEY'RE HORNY AND THINKING ABOUT GIRLS.

P.S. If you think this doesn't sound like something RM would write, you don't know how big of a pervert our Leader is, lmao. Expensive Girl, downloading porn, preferring girls in miniskirts, trying to prank Jin with naked women... the only one who can compete with RM on perversion is Jimin, lol.

honestly, this is The BTS song that i didnt download for our driving music, because my kids are still underage and there is no way i could listen to this with them around:D but what i see is a process, a journey...and how they made their journey meaningful and inspiring by simply being true to themselves....making mistakes, own the mistakes and learn from those. without this song, BTS is not the the today BTS.

If you remembered the BTS crash course you reacted 2 months ago, you will see the phases they went through and that they have talked about it in their albums. The phases from being schoolboys, teenagers who are attracted to the opposite sex, and to becoming mature people where they appreciate the small things in Boy with Luv. As what other ARMYs were saying here in the comment section that they received a lot of hate because of this specific song, even calling our boys "perverts".
@MrKaibaoh4 жыл бұрын
I heared they got a lot of hate because of this, even though the song is called "war of hormones" even Hopi's part say he feels like that and then go to brust a pimple... they didn't get the song. Feeling like this is pretty normal for teens due to hormones. Shame they didn't do a song like this again, It is very very catchy i love it and "boy in luv" way more than the softer songs they did like boy with luv.

Exactly! I thought it was cute and catchy too. It's supposed to portray how teenage boys are with girls. Thus, war of hormones. I didn't think anything much about it because that's how teenage kids were. I felt so bad for the boys especially RM when I heard how people treated them for this song. I thought the song depicted the intended sentiment very well and it's a fun song to reminisce about our immature full of hormones younger days.😄💜

Well, they were all in their age with raging hormone. So it's just natural, they were being a normal teenager. But Korea is a conservative country like the rest of the countries in Asia that don't openly discuss sex in public, so that's why they got lots of hate and harsh comments about this song back then.

Well yeah..."War of Hormone!" Also, it's part of their school trilogy and what is high school for anyway? C'mon, haters. Out of their stellar high-minded discography can we show them a little grace for being BOYS?! 😀

Now when RM writes songs referencing women he makes sure to check with a women studies professor. You will also notice now that the boys now take care to respect their individual sexual preferences and privacy. For example, American interviewers often ask if they have any “girlfriends” but RM usually just says that they love ARMY. Also, to include all ARMYs, RM responded to a certain interviewer saying the words “If we were to have a boyfriend or girlfriend...” To me, this shows their growth as a group and as amazing individuals who respect all sexualities and women

This song as others have pointed out, is simply a representation of what young boys go through during puberty. It's not exactly their own personal views. But many have taken it as such that made it seem the boys are disrespecting women. This is from their 1st studio album "Dark and Wild" which was released after their School Trilogy albums (first single album"2Cool 4 Skool" , 1st EP "O!RUL8,2?"and 2nd EP "Skool Luv Affair"). BTS have played with concepts since debut and just from the album title, you know they'll be talking about the youth going thru a dark and wild phase. But just the same, RM was traumatised with all the bashing and made sure he had a woman professor check his succeeding lyrics to make sure he's not offending anybody. I'm a woman but i have no problems with the lyrics. The antis are simply jumping on opportunities to drag them.

Hey it’s part of their concept album about the late teen years of battling male hormones and angsts that’s normal but cringed upon if spoken about as in this song.
