The main concept in the shorts films, the trailer for the album'Boy meets evil' and 'Blood Sweat and Tears' is based on Hermann Hesse's book Demian. The main character is a boy facing hardships of becoming an adult. Also the monologues in the beginning of every video are directly quoted from that book

I completely agree with you guys about them creating their own mythos or universe. At this point, since this storyline has been going on for a couple of years now, it's kind of as if their personas and characters in their videos are completely disconnected from their actual self. It's like following a TV series you love and analyzing it to pieces for symbols and character development/regression.

I love what Paige said about being able to "chew" on the films/MVs for hours afterwards, because it's true. It makes their music so much more engaging, and I think that's part of what really kickstarted their surge in popularity back when "I Need U" was released. Also, I think it's amazing for fans who aren't used to examining the media they consume that deeply to be introduced to that way of thinking, so hopefully they'll be more engaged/critical in the media they consume elsewhere in the future. The book Demian is where each narration at the beginning of each film comes from, so reading that can be helpful. Each short film stars one member, and each short film title is the the title of that member's solo song on the album. All the short films connect to each other, and each individual short film relates to its corresponding song.

If you really want to get the full picture of these short films, please watch these short films & then go & watch the lyric videos of the full song. For example, in this song, "Begin," Jungkook's opening lyric is, "The 15 year old me who had nothing, the world was so big & I was so small, now I can't even imagine it--the wholly empty me who had no scent of his own." [or similar variations of this based on what video translation you watch]. Each member of BTS, chose to write something important they wanted to express.

Also just like one of the commentator said, it would be interesting if you guys watch the lyric video of each song (Begin, Lie, Stigma etc.) right after watching one of the short film. You'll understand some aspect of the video. For example Begin is about Jungkook's beginning as a singer and how the members of BTS took care of him. Begin symbolizes their brotherhood. Jungkook said that his greatest pain is seeing the members being in pain. I really don't mind watching a half an hour video from you guys because your opinions are great and rich, and I appreciate the good things you guys have said about BTS and the mvs/short films so far. You guys really delve deep into the videos and I really loved that. Thank you so much :D

I love BTS for a lot of the same reasons I love post-hardcore prog rock band Coheed & Cambria. Besides being incredibly talented musicians they have created their own universe for themselves to express themselves and for the fans to live in, as you point out. In Co&Ca's case, their first four albums were a connected series of concept albums called 'The Amory Wars' and told a massive, sprawling sci-fi tale of a reluctant saviour finding his place to save humanity. The three albums after that were like "spin-offs" and told different stories based in that world and gave background info on the universe they had created etc. They are currently in the process of being turned into comics so you have a visual representation, and apparently they sold the movie rights to the concept a cuple of years ago, so that's apossibility too. The fans are just as obsessive as BTS fans are because there's just so much content and artistic expression to dive into, which as we all know creates a much richer, more invested experience.

The title of each short film is the name of the solo song of the member that appears in the short film. The cool thing about these films is that each film is related to the book Demian, and the song of each short film is related to the personal experiences of the member who sings it. For example, the short film Begin is a teaser for the solo song of Jungkook (the member that appears in this short film) and all the symbolism, and the quotes read at the beginning of the short film are related to the book Demian. It would be awesome if you could react to the English lyrics videos for each of the songs of the album Wings. They are all beautiful and they have lots of meaning and emotion in them. Love the reaction you had and how seriously you took everything! Thanks! I'll be expecting more in the future!

And I hope you remember everything from this video because the others build on it in very subtle ways. And sometimes it's hard to catch. Please remember the tune in this one . . . it'd be nice also if you react to their trilogy which came before this; I Need U ( original version ) Prologue Run Epilogue: Young Forever If you watch those and notice things about each character the story being told becomes so much more complicated and amazing. The inspiration for the story line of the Wings Short Films was based on the book Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth by Hermann Hesse. A lot of imagery/symbolism were based on the book. The narrative in the beggining of each short film were also from the book.

bts for me, even from the very first day they debuted, has been more than just a band that sings song and dances. they are storytellers, and music is just one form of medium that they use to convey the story they want to tell. they invest a lot into building a backbone story everytime they come back with new songs. they pay attention to not just their sound and their music video but also other factors like staging, choreography, teaser videos, teaser pictures, etc and release these on multiple social platforms to give fans a whole-package experience. of course, it's also thanks to the staffs in their company who contribute into different parts of this package. this short film series and the entire album they released following these teaser films all took inspiration from a book call Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth by Hermann Hesse. The readings you hear at the beginning are excerpts from there. also, don't be afraid to go wild with the theory, because as with any other forms of art, there are multiple ways of understanding a same piece of work so there's no one definite theory to this whole thing. and while bts may have meant to create a slightly different meaning for a certain image/symbol, they encourage fans to take the meaning as how they understand/relate to personally. I would highly suggest you guys to react to their HYYH (Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa/The most beautiful moment in life) series as you seem to be pretty good with deducting imageries and symbols. It includes (and should be watch in this particular order): I Need You (the original 19+ version), Prologue, Run, I Need You (japanese version) and Run (japanese version). Compared to most other kpop reactors, you guys are amongst the few that are able to grasp the meaning of their work and have insightful comments about it so, looking forward to your next reactions! keep it up!~

The short films are basically teasers to the solo tracks that each member wrote. Each song itself is are expressions of that members feelings on a certain part of their life. For this one it's about Jungkook and his journey into brotherhood and kinship with BTS, or at least that's how I see it. While the short stories and the songs themselves may not be directly connected, the short films are basically a means of presenting each song while also telling a story for the Wings album. After watching the short films you should go back and just listen to the songs themselves and read the lyrics. It really brings a whole new meaning to them.

There are some videos subbed by other armys (I think some of those even have more explanations about what may be happening - As some us said before, there are various theories about what's happening, BTS haven't confirmed anything) And dude, BTS and their team are... Ugh, that's why I love them so much. I had no idea when I met them, I just liked the music and I was that regular kpop fan that just became a newborn army and simply rly liked the band and never thought about connecting that to a story and then 2016 and Wings came and then it was all connected with I Need You and Run, that to me were just really nice songs that had some things that looked similar in their music videos, and then I got to know about those theories and connections and duuuuude... And, and, and... There's always something more with BTS. Anyways... They released this beautiful song today called 4 o'clock. U don't have to react to that, just listen to it. Rap Monster (Namjoon) and V (Taehyung) made it and released as part of our celebration for their upcoming birthday. It doesn't have that connection with the Wings plot (I mean, I think they're not connected but what do I know, Bangtan always surprises us), but it's beautiful. V (which is the guy that's in the balcony in BS&T MV - And yeah he's the one without the wings too) sings, RapMon does the rap part - and also sings a bit. I had to recommend that to you because I can't stop listening to it and you might like it a lot. Well, thank you for another amazing reaction. (and sorry for my English :p)

To understand all the story behind it you need to watch these MV's (they are REALLY important because there is a lot of topics/symbolism) and short films in the right order : 1/ I need you(original version) 2/prologue 3/Run 4/Young forever 5/the short films 6/ Blood Sweat and tears

Second of all maybe you could check out the "Bts Wings Trailer"(LIVE TRILOGY EPISODE III THE WINGS TOUR trailer). Because it's an extension and there is some really interesting stuff in there. And MV's like Run, The Epilogue, Boy Meets Evil by Jhope,I Need u Original version etc. are really important too. There is a MV that many people don't react to its called "Young Forever" by Bts. It's a really nice MV. I think you would like it ^^

You guys should watch the next short films with eng subs, since the text and the background music actually help you understand what's happening. Also, this is the fourth installment in the storyline, so some things may be really confusing. For more background info, you should watch I Need U (the original version), On Stage: Prologue and then Run, in this specific order. And as for the "other version of himself" painting theory, let me just drop this tidbit of information: when the picture was "bleeding" paint and he was crying and shaking his head the word he mouthed was "hyung". Hyung means older brother in korean, and can be used to adress your actual blood-related brother or a close friend older than you that you consider a brother. The boy on the video, Jungkook, is the youngest in BTS, so everyone else in the group is his hyung. But as to who is actually in the painting, well... That's still a mystery for now ;) I just rambled a lot. I'm in too deep, please save me.

endlesszero112 So true, though I remember when it first came out, people were torn if the picture was V or Suga. I personally think it's Suga since the pic that he holds is the same as the one of Suga with the mint hair, and also their storyline were the ones that paired all through HYYH. After reaching the videos recently, I'm convinced that the pairs are still there, with subtle hints of the other members thrown in to each video.

Indeed I think that it's a combination of Yoongi and Jungkook because of the Demian-theme, the painting wich Sinclair was obsesed with was indeed a "fusion" of himself and Demian but he didn't realised of this when he painted it... and in the book, he sends Demian a painting of a bird, just like Jungkook did, you know, the bird that breaks the egg to be free... at least that's what I remember about the book :) I read it like a loooooooooooooong time ago, but it left a really deep impresion within me since I was a teen... I really think that all of the fans need to read this book to understand the HYYH/WINGS era of BTS (this and the original version of Peter Pan :P among other titles kkk)
@endlesszero1127 жыл бұрын
Oh hey, you read the book, that's really awesome. I want to read it at some point, it sounds really interesting. I had no idea that it was connected to Peter Pan, though.
@NaryaButterfly7 жыл бұрын
yeah ^^b I read it for the first time when I was like 12 :) it's one of my favorite books tbh ^^b this is the book that marked my teenage years... I also read "The ones who walk away from Omelas", it's pretty good too :) (wich it's related to the movie "Snowpiercer" the other motive in the Spring Day MV) both are books that make you rethink the world in wich you live in and help you to see the world from a completly different perspective... a lot of people (religious people) think that Demian is a book that no one should read (because of the whole thinking revolution that it causes long time ago among Catholic Church and the Cainits) but I really loved it since the first time that I read it and I had read it couple more times along the years and I still think that the book is a piece of art... it's like "Little Prince" you know?, every time you read it, you found some new message in it, according to the moment you are living trough... that's what I love about this two books ^^ they are my favorite ones... (among my Top20) So when I saw the first motive abot Demian in the BTS universe I was like "O___O really?" jajajajajajajajajajajaja I want to read it in english, because I think that the spanish translation (my mother language) changed some words and the prose it's so much different, it's still great, but after reading a lot of quotes about it in english, I think that sounds so much more poetic in english ^^ jajajaja maybe is just RapMon's fault jajajajaajaja But you should totally read Demian! ^^b It's a book super short, like 100 pages or so, I read it in like a couple hours ^^b (that's another thing that I love about this 2 books, in so much few pages the authors have hiden inside a whole new world to live in, a world that you can visit and learn something new every single time that you go in there... just like what BTS do with their music-videos-concepts)

The concept they were following was about youth and the struggles of growing up. The base for that is the book DAMIEN. The short films are dropping in a specific order...from youngest to oldest so as a whole they represent different stages growing up. There are small details that are references to the next short films coming up...like the whistle in the beginning or the burning piano and the car crash or the picture of the raven he puts into the envelope. The painting and the photo he saw were showing Suga (short film #4). I will not spoil the plot for you...you will see everything click together after watching each short film one by one...

Yes, the guy who jumps off the ledge is the guy with the wings. And each short film represents one of the boys, they're technically teasers for the boys solo tracks, so each features just one, with some symbolism from the others here and there. They're really beautiful and artistic and you have to pay a lot of attention to them, they do tell a story though. And like people have said, you can find subtitles for them on youtube.

One of the best reaction and reviews of the BTS SHORT FILMS... looking forward to the other short films and see what you guys think... All ARMYs have been solving this mysteries and symbolism theory making our boys have got us into for almost 3 years now. It all started at the BTS " I NEED U" ORiginal version. Where it is a YOUTH TRILOGY all music videos of BTS somehow connects and shows a bigger story and meaning behind it. While the short films also somehow relates to this trilogy, the boys said its a new concept but we all think it is definitely a connection from a struggling youth to becoming an adult concept. The short films are based also from a book called "DEMIAN" by HERMANN HESSE. BTS influenced a lot of ARMYS to grab a copy of this book to read it and somehow get a better understanding of all the short films. I am pretty sure my fellow ARMYs are already telling you the gist of the Book "DEMIAN".. we all have our theory on each films but it is just amazing how these 7 talented boys not only produce such good beautiful music, dancing on such high expertise , self produce and compose songs but they also make us fans & other audience dive into a very intellectual/mindbogglingly rollercoaster ride with their symbolism. LOVE all what you guys say in the video, should i say, my very thoughts exactly. I am too proud to share how these boys are not just ordinary kpop idols or singers/band but rather they are REAL ARTISTs.

omg. i am so glad you guys shared your insights and interpretations of this. It is the beauty of BTS's videos that lets fans theorise what is happening. Can't wait for you guys to see "Lie". It is my favourite one, and the song itself makes me feel a bunch of emotions you cant imagine. The song is about a mental illness, which is a touchy subject yet so intriguing.
@melin78417 жыл бұрын
Basically every short film represent the solo track for each member: 1. begin - jungkook 2. lie - jimin, 3. stigma - v 4. first love - suga 5. reflection - rap monster 6. mama - j hope 7. awake - jin and all the symbols in these films are connected to their album wings and blood sweat & tears and also their previous album HYYH or the most beautiful moment in love, basically all the theories begin with the song I need you and every song and album after that is the continuation of it.
@lazycatculture91847 жыл бұрын
i guess many people have commented this already but you MUST check out the boys' videos from the HYYH era to understand (or get more confused) by the short films. The recommended order is I NEED U, BTS Prologue, Run, Young Forever, then the short films. Then rewatch the Blood Sweat and Tears MV. A lot of imagery is similar and you can draw the parallels between their storylines. and i suppose by then you'd be able to tell them apart by their face as well so that's definitely a plus. I am so glad to have discovered your channel. your reactions are amazing and honest and your discussions are a breath of fresh air. I found you from your GoT s7 trailer and stayed for BTS

I really like your reactions guys! This is such a meaningful series, and not everyone here on KZbin is a serious reactor, wich makes me really mad. Thank you so much for really putting thought on it!! Keep it going!! Greetings from Mexico. x

If you want to understand the story behind this... Well, the story is still a mystery for all of us xD But, all this start with his video 'Danger'~ The next video is 'I Need U', here is the first time we see -kind of- what is happening with the members. Then come the 'Prologue', 'RUN' & 'Young Forever'. With this videos you can understand a little more the Shorts Films. And the names of the Short Films, are actually solo song for every member in the album called 'WINGS'~ Hope you guys can react to all of this stuff, I really like the way you interprete the videos :'D And like some people said in the other comments, the original films don't have cc but you need to see it with cc (Specially the 'Prologue' if some day you see it) Love you guys!

The short films are teasers to their solo tracks on their WINGS album. They each wrote their solo track, while they kept it related to the book Demian by Hermann Hesse (temptation, evil, youth, etc.) the tracks are also personal to each member! Begin is about how each member shaped Jungkook into the person he is today, it's about brotherhood. Anyways, you guys should check out the videos with the subtitles, just add "eng sub" and the videos should come up, it'll definitely help understand what they say in the videos 😊 I really love how you guys analyze and interpret the videos, not many reactors do this!

After watching all the Wings Short Film, I recommend you watch all the HYYH music video- I need you original ver.+ Prologue + Run. These three MVs are the whole story of "The most beautiful moment in life", and they have connected with Wings story line, really artistic and I know you will love it

There are a lot of theories about BTS' music videos and the short films, They (the boys) doesn't give definite answers as to what their MV means they leave it up to the viewers/fans to interpret their own understanding of the videos, they keep it open, which is why when you read or watch a theory that you think is right another one pops up and it makes sense too but is different from the first one. This is why i love BTS they educate you. hahahahaha

all the short films actually connect and give a brief look at the music and future music videos. ps. also each music video features each of the members single or song created by them ij the wings album.
@spiinx29767 жыл бұрын
Ohh this is just the beginning. These are the names of the songs that tell each members internal thoughts as they wrote the songs themselves some with added help). I also recommend reacting to the lyric videos to these solo songs because it is some pretty powerful stuff that many can relate to.

It might not hurt to read a summary of the book Demian by Herman Hesse. All of the short films, and the WINGS album itself, are based off of the book. The names of the short films/solo songs are chapter names from the book, I believe. They also continue a storyline from the previous HYYH trilogy that BTS released over the past couple of years with the focus on the theme of youth, so there are some throwbacks and connections to that too.

The quotes Rap Monster reads at the begining of the short films (and in the middle of blood, sweat & tears) were taken out of the book "Demian, by Herman Hesse, as well as the main concept to the videos. The story is about the hardships of growing up, the main character Sinclair met Damian who " introduces" him to the "evil world" when he told him that Cain and Abel mith could be seen in a different way where probably men stigmatized someone because they were afraid of the power and determination of a man, so, the weak and coward man probably just wanted to difame someone because they were afraid to do something else about it. Sinclair tries to not questionate about what he has always has been told, but he thinks it's an interesting way to interpret that story; at the time, he is also stuggling with a bully (Kromer) who is blackmailing him (Sinclair lied about stealing some apples and in order to impress Kromer but he threatened with turning in him if he did’t do what he wanted) and Demian finds out, so he helps Sinclair. After that, they get to be friends and Demian intoduces Sinclair to this new world where not just good things happen and then concludes that there is not just good and evil in this world, but in order to grow up we have to accept the parts of both we have in ourselves. “Who wants to be born, must destroy a world first” BTS music has always told stories of themselves, about their joys and also bad times and since they are young man, always had the topic of youth; I think that’s why thy decided to use this book as an start to create a whole artistic concept. The struggles of creating an own identity, to accept the evil in us, to watch for the first time the reality and cluelty of the world, to lose friends, to ralize that our paremts are not perfect, to give into temtation, to experiment sexuality, etc. All this is a reality to every human being and it is important to recognize it to make the best of ourselves. To grow up does not mean to stop dreamming or to become evil, we are not all good also, but we have to try our best to achieve what we want. (Sorry for my bad grammar, I’m from Mexico) Have a nice day :)

You should listen to the full song Begin . See the life performances too. BTS at MAMA 2016 was one incredible show and BigBang at MAMA 2015 and 2014 is legend. King G Dragon had his solo comeback yesterday and it was all kill in Korea and nr1 :-) on itunes in 44 countries .

Awww guys I'm really grateful that you decided to do a reaction to these types of videos of BTS, more people should see this kind of side to them but I do wish you watched the english subtitled version since they do exist on youtube, you just need to look for them. With the english subs it would really help with analysing and deconstructing the symbolism and artistry

I personally always thought the person on the main painting that Jungkook saw was V, but after thinking about it some more it may refer to everyone in bts besides Jungkook because they are all his hyung. In the full song of Begin Jungkook addresses how his hyungs in bts made him begin to grow into the person he is today and then further states "I feel like dying when my brother (hyung) is sad." He gets upset seeing his hyungs struggling with their own issues. I believe the burning piano Jungkook sees is referring to Yoongi struggling with his first love music, and the painting mimics what he sees when he thinks of that. And when the colors start dripping referencing to the Blood sweat tears mv, I think it symbolizes how all of his hyungs finally let go of their childhoods and became adults seeing all the sins the world entails. They are no longer sheltered by their parents and have to experience much more pain and it hurts Jungkook seeing his hyungs going through that. He knows that soon he will have to follow them into adult hood sooner or later. Birds tend to symbolize freedom which is one of the perks of adulthood, so maybe Jungkook sent that to rapmon to make him have something to look forward in the drab adult world. But then again a crow symbolizes death and the glass shatters maybe from a car or maybe the glass symbolizes what was once his reality. The more you grow up the more death you experience in life. The death also could have symbolized the death of who they where in their childhood. They have grown up and some of their traits from when they were younger are bound to die with time and age. However all of this is just a bunch of speculation, and I believe there is really no right answer. There is a beauty in the fact that what matters the most in art is how it speaks to you and your concerns and life the most. What means a lot to person A to another might mean nothing to person B but they see it in their own perspective and it means just as much to them as it did the other despite having different meanings. Anyway have a good day and thank you for taking the time to read this super long ramble haha.

Guys your so coooollllll!! You really are thinking so hard for every BTS videos that you see. I think I never saw anyone reacting to them while thinking this hard and finding those symbolisms. I think its a great choice of me to subscribe to your channel and wait for your next videos. Oh and one more thing. You can find those subtitle if you search in youtube, for example "BTS Short Film Begin eng sub".

These short films are apart of a bigger story that has been going on in bts mvs. The order u should watch their videos so u get the full story in order is this: I need u, Prologue, Run, Young Forever, Boy Meets Evil, Blood Sweat & Tears, All 7 short films and then Blood Sweat & Tears(Japanese Version). Also u guys should watch the short films with english subtitles they should all be on youtube, u miss a lot without knowing what they are saying. I love how into bts you guys are and you understand why their doing what no other bands out there are so i really think u guys should start this bts journey the right way and watch the mvs in order and get the most out of what bighit and bts are trying to present to the world.

Your evaluation gave me as many goosebumps as the actual short film and I loved it❤️ Ps: you will need subs for the 3rd one, Stigma. And I can't wait to see your reactions as you see how they connect to each other. Also, this is what I think happened in the short film: His nightmares are actually visions of the future (and you will realise it as you watch the next short films). I think that the guy on the piece of paper and the painting is actually one of the other members (Suga / Min Yoongi) and the fact that the painting started burning, signifies that he's gonna die, that's why Jungkook started crying and silently screamed "Hyung!" (Which means "brother"). In fact, if you overlap Suga's short film (first love) with this one, when jungkook screams hyung! You will hear a car crash in Suga's short film. IK! GIVES YOU GOOSEBUMPS RIGHT? That's all I've got tho😅 Looking forward to your next videos!💕

like others are saying i think that when you watch a specific short film like this one (begin) you should also watch the lyric video of the song because it will give an deeper indepth meaning to the film and the song since the members each made this song and film expressing themselves. i personally think that it would be better if you watch the film then the lyrics video consecutively instead of seperately. Thank you for these reactions!! i love that when you react to bts it is not only their dancing skills or attractiveness (not that i blame those who do because i totally understand) but the message or the underlying meaning in their art :)
@Rania3076 жыл бұрын
I'm a little late but I related the short movie to the single begin the short movie kinda express the meaning behind the song as I understand Jungkook was only a teen when they debuted and he feels like the other members are the ones that made him the person he is right now...and one of the meanings is kinda they make him feel emotions i dunno if this is connected to the painting that is him colorful and crying which is full of emotions...and I agree about the fire part

yes, it was the same guy. he's name is V. Blood sweat and tears is so amazing! i love V! BTS is the best! i like you're theories. i also love that you apprexiate how deep this boys are. they are smart and always tells a story with their music. they jus don't sing and dance, they also gives a message and make people be aware of what's happening to our surroundings. Wings era is about temptations.
