Seems like a segway to re-enslave and lose personal rights to own property. In general the electronics industry seems to be more USSR secret where the olden days of purchasing a device with the schematics stapled to the interior case are gone in regards to being a general expectation. Now, there's proprietary firmware, hidden chip processes, software that is licensed and not owned, and some other concepts conning.

@slowride55 : Funny you say that, because I had the same problem. In the 1990's, after achieving 2 college degrees, in Ag Business and Equipment Engineering, John Deere pushed me away with their pathetic compensation. 2 years into working for them, it was obvious they just weren't willing to pay a fair wage, so I left. When I later worked for a CIH dealer, pay rates were a bit better, but still not good enough either, and I eventually left there as well. The agricultural industry as a whole suffers from consistently losing good, intelligent people because they all pay substandard wages. It's an unfortunate situation for everyone who loves Ag, but needs to make a reasonable living and refuse to be dirt poor while the corporations continue to line their wallets.

The winter on 78 my dad laid out the plans for that truck. He found a 74 model Toyota pickup and added a 30hp 3 cylinder Kubota diesel to the truck, then made the adapter plate for the Toyota 5speed manual. Ordered a reading service bed for the truck and painted the entire truck Kubota orange. It was completed in time for me to ride in it on my first day of kindergarten in the fall of 79. Unfortunately in the last 10 years, Deere have gone long away from Deere of old. Back in the 1910s and up until the 80s, Deere equipment was built to he worked on by the average farmer. After the last board member who had any connections to the original Deere family retired, the company pretty much said, if the farmer is desperate enough to get the equipment working, they'll pay the field techs as much as possible. In their modern machines, especially the hydrostatic drive machines, they have a counter in the systems to count how many times the owner did not come to a complete stop to go in the other direction, just to say warranty will not cover this. If you're going to buy a John Deere anything, you're better off buying something from 1980s and prior.

I put it on the road in September '84, and in '96 I installed a DD 4-53T. Originally I stayed with original 4.10 ratio rear, but several years ago, I switched to a 3.58 Dana '70, as now it'll cruise the interstate with traffic, and not have engine singing . 38 years plus about 300,000 miles verifies it's been a practical-successful conversion .

@@Chevy4x4dawg Yes. The RV chassis business was sold to oshkosh because it was a financial loser. I never heard anything about the service trucks. probably a myth.
@Chevy4x4dawg2 жыл бұрын
@@gonerydin4225 Best I can remember the RV chassis business was right during the late 80s financial crisis so I am sure it was cut quickly with such a small profit margin. As to the service trucks I worked at a Deere Dealership that had looked into buying one. Also I have seen a brochure for them on eBay several years ago. Now were any ever produced that is certainly up for debate. Like I said it doubled the price and the only benefits were the dealership could work on the engine and that it had a longer life. I'm sure the transmission and other components would have been a warranty nightmare. That said there may have never been any produced.

Most guys don't know what an FC-150 is! My dad had a a '42 former Army Jeep, '56 Utility Wagon and a new '62 Pickup. A Boy Scout camp near us had a '61 FC-150 for the camp operator whose family lived in a house on the camp property. His son was my age. I loved the cab-over idea; it is great for plowing 'cause you had a great view of the plow. I was 17 in 1965 when I begged my Dad to buy a used FC-170 from Fine's Auto Sales in Albany, NY. I would have paid him back. But, no. Who knew they would be worth a fortune today if one can be found in decent shape?

HP is merely a measure of how quickly an engine makes power. Torque on the other hand, measures how much usable power is being put to the ground. Your average diesel engine makes tons more torque than a gas engine, but less horse power, which is why it can gain speed at almost the same rate. Often times, the diesel makes so much more torque, it's "faster" than the higher HP gas engine.

@@minnesotatomcat it isn’t bullet proof. A 205 is way more bullet proof. Those 203s are boat anchors or scrap weight.
@troyfrank26023 жыл бұрын
The 203 is far from a boat anchor, chain drives have been proven to be plenty stong enough for serious off roading, but I doubt that truck will ever see any real trail use. The 203 has a lower low range ratio than the 205 and it's also a full time case that can be selected to either open or locked in low or high range. With the selectable hubs on the front it can be a "sorta" part time case like the 205, although the front drive shaft will still turn. It's a good choice for a LWB pickup that's likely going to have most of the weight on the front axle when they need 4 wheel drive.
