Installing anchor bolts in concrete is unique compared to other fastening applications such as fastening two pieces of metal together by using a screw or a bolt and nut. Concrete anchors are much more difficult to install and use. The concept of fastening something to a solid base material is completely different than for almost any other type of fastening application.
Anchor bolt installation for concrete require friction for bonding and enough support for load transfer. A mechanical concrete bolt anchor is installed against the sides of the hole, inducing compression stresses to the base material. This requires enough base material strength around the concrete anchor bolt to withstand the stresses. Without a strong base material, the concrete anchor fastener will not have enough grip as it creates small voids on its sides. Mechanical anchoring is unsuitable for weaker base materials, such as brickwork, stonework and especially, blockwork where they would simply crack or crush.
Because of these weak points, we recommend chemical anchoring, a technique in fastening bolts or rebars to concrete and similar substrates using a special epoxy, which provides more flexibility and strength than mechanical anchoring.
With chemical anchoring, a resin is injected into the hole prior to insertion of the bolts or rebars. The epoxy completely fills the hole, making it airtight with 100% adhesion. Chemical anchors have virtually unlimited embedment depth, so you can embed any length of rod into the hole to increase its load capacity.
Confix Anchor is a high-strength, non-shrink anchor grouting material. It is an anchoring adhesive that has strong bonding strength and good thixotropic property. It is applicable on vertical and overhead surface anchoring.
