@Michael Robins Real Jews are Zionists. G-d is a Zionist. Psalms 132:13 - For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. Zionism means the restoration of the Jewish people to the homeland G-d gave to them. That means you are fighting against G-d himself.

This brought back so many memories of my days as a wedding singer in CT. I loved doing weddings, because the band I was with performed at weddings of all ethnicities. So I had to learn Hava Nagila and another song called Hevenu Shalom Alechem. I was soooooooo singing along just now. I loved seeing all the different cultures and how they celebrate their traditions. I've done bar mitvahs as well and always had so much fun watching people enjoying life and their families. Congrats to the bride and groom and thanks for the memories.

@Living_Dead_Girrl
@Living_Dead_Girrl 3 жыл бұрын
@@kathiemott3988 EXACTLY! There used to be many causes for celebration, but most of our traditions have come at the expense of assimilation. As an American Jew, its been a struggle since childhood just being able to keep our modern traditions in a society that has no tolerance for us. It started with my elementary school teachers & admin making a HUGE deal about me missing class on High Holy Holidays. They’d do everything to shame me, equating practicing my religion with “playing hooky,” because I was “choosing to skip class” for something they considered “voluntary” unlike being sick. No matter how many times me or my parents calmly explained how WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WORK OR GO TO SCHOOL ON HIGH HOLY HOLIDAYS, they did not care because they didn’t consider our practices or beliefs to be “legitimate.” They’d retaliate by refusing to allow me to make-up any tests I missed, made excuses to not give me homework a day early so I could turn it in on time, and I recall at least 2 occasions where a teacher gave their ONLY pop-quizzes on the holiday. By the 90s pop-quizzes in general weren’t commonplace in public school, yet the first and only pop-quizzes given out in those 12 yrs were given while I was literally in Temple. They also threatened to hold me back because my elementary school ran an 45 min later than all the others in the school district, and thus I needed to miss the last class of the day, Spanish, in order to attend Hebrew School. Apparently learning a Jewish language wasn’t good enough for them, as they continued to deny my civil rights. The Antisemitism I got from Christians in between classes & at recess, even by my own friends, made me feel so alienated, and I learned very young that not even teachers can be trusted. My 4th grade teacher literally called me a “narc” for reporting the Antisemitic bullying, and having had enough, my Mom worked very hard to transfer me (the token Jew of the entire school) to the other elementary school in the district across town that had more Jewish kids. I’ve been working since 14, which wound-up being the biggest influence on me discontinuing celebrating the High Holy Holidays as I got older, so I wouldn’t have to explain why I need a specific day off, and unleash the beast of Antisemitism in the workplace. A “good worker” never misses work, especially being Gen Y & coming of age in the Great Recession, giving employers the eternal upper-hand to look for ANY reason to give away your job to the next desperate person. Everyone was replaceable… still are. By the time I got a full-time 9-7 office job after moving to LA, there was so much pressure on me to NEVER miss work (calling in sick was unheard of), especially as I got promoted & started working later and always being on-call; despite working at a company (a Hollywood movie studio) that recognized Jewish holidays where even non-Jewish Execs would use our holidays as an excuse to skip work, I wasn’t able to partake as a minion whose job “thousands would kill for.” No matter how many years I spent choosing work and avoiding Antisemitism over the holidays, it never got easier knowing I was working on days I’m not supposed to. Regardless of how religious I was at that point, it felt like a grave injustice. Everything shuts down on Christian holidays, leaving us with nothing to do on our forced day-off of missed pay, where only Chinese restaurants & movie theaters were open. I felt lucky working at Starbucks in college, because that place NEVER closes, because I got the “opportunity” to work Christmas & get Holiday pay. Long story short: Modern western society won’t allow most Jews to simply celebrate the 2 most important holidays of the entire year without risking our employment, reputation, lost wages, retaliation, or discrimination; which I’ve seen take a toll on the Jewish community as a whole. How can we stay connected and celebrate when we live in a society that sees us as nameless faceless workers, and has a different religion’s holidays baked into it’s very foundation, making celebrating the most important things very difficult in itself? I just wish more was being done to advocate for our rights, to protect us from discrimination & hate, and to bring the Jewish community as a whole closer together - not being clicky and judgemental. There used to be tons of Jewish advocacy thru the 80s, ending essentially after helping the “Refuseniks,” then one day everyone decided we’re all doing fine… better than fine… and that our advocacy groups & orgs should be used to help everyone but other Jews. I can’t tell you how much I’ve been let down by Jewish organizations that help the poor & vulnerable, at my most poor and desperate times, *because* I’m a Jew. It’s almost like this denial gets projected by the minority of Jews who run these orgs, that we’re still not there yet and THOUSANDS of Jews go hungry, are denied basic human and civil rights, and have absolutely nowhere to turn when we’re in danger for being who we are. It’s fear-based denial, not wanting to believe *IT* could happen again from Jewish Americans raised in tight-knit Jewish communities where they didn’t see the experience MOST Jews in America have - which is Antisemitism that’s so systemic people like me have to transfer schools (my education at risk, let alone my self-esteem/mental healthy), leave jobs, or move 2,000 miles away just to survive the discrimination. The shame older gens felt, causing them to not share their story with their children, contributing to the massive holes in our history. I’m lucky my parents told me exactly how it was growing-up in Wyoming and New York, and the violence and segregation and terror they went thru just for being Jewish in AMERICA. My Grandfather was a Ritchie Boy in WWII, and he came back to the only country he’s ever known, that he thought gave his parents a safe haven full of opportunity after they escaped the Pale Settlement; to a country he didn’t recognize, so full of hate for our people despite what the Germans just put us through. No stories of Jewish soldiers are told in this country. He sacrificed his sanity for this nation AND his people, but wasn’t allowed to tell a soul about the secret OSS program he was a part of that gave America it’s big win. Things he saw he couldn’t live with, yet he died telling everyone he “just worked a desk job” and “never saw combat.” Turns out he fought in Battle of the Bulge, D-Day, AND for reasons he never shared, he took out several top SS one-by-one until he had to be restrained by other US soldiers. He knew they’d get away with it, and they did. Many got American citizenship and jobs at NASA & the DOD al la Project Paperclip. I wonder all the time if that’s WHY he did it. I don’t even know what operations he was doing, but he’s not the only Jewish soldier that “snapped.” Our country’s decision (this includes every allied nation btw) to bring top SS HERE, covering-up their war crimes, and putting them in positions of power is precisely why things got even worse for American Jews AFTER WWII. Anyways long rant. ADHD. I just wish we could celebrate life, come together as a people again, and just celebrate out in the open and not have fear. That’s all I want before it’s my time to leave this rock. I feel so isolated from my own people. Too many are preoccupied with denying the bad things happening to Jews like me and my family all over this country and all the rest. It’s not acceptable to demand others accept Antisemitism and keep quiet about it. It’s real. Ignoring it makes us unprepared and vulnerable, and it is quite cruel to deny someone’s traumatic experiences as-if they’re being “hysterical.” That’s exactly what happens everytime I try to remind the more privileged/sheltered Jews that MOST of us are still struggling in every context right now, and barely hanging on. God ADHD is embarrassing, but who else can I share any of this with? No Jews I know IRL will hear any of it. Non-Jewish non-Christian friends really try, but it’s not their fault they can’t understand.

Shalom Butthe4d! When I was a lil Bokher (very young man) I also said, I never wanna get married. ;-)) Well wait until HaShem lets You meet a bride like this one in this clip... ;-) This bridegroom for sure has become one of the happiest husbands ever! Boy, you cannot imagine the "coup de foudre" that comes over you the day you encounter the one girl that HaShem has designated to become the Mamale of your kids... ;-) You will not recognize yourself the next morning. Promised! HaShem started to change my opinion by letting me fall in love with Ofra Haza in a way that I didn't recognize it, first I thaught I was just a great fan, but when it develops, you get aware of the possible fascination a good wife could develop. And how should I explain it, that prepared me to meet the one HaShem had designated for me. I would have laughed a few years earlier when someone would have told me, that it will happen that I would have a time in my life where my only whish would be to marry the girl that I want to become the Mamale of my kids, but that describes exactly what it felt like: Ofra shaded away and it became just this: Her and only her. Only the love to HaShem is more overwhelming. Remember the Shir HaShirim 8, 6: Love is a burning fire from HaShem... I'm sure you will remember as soon as it will happen to you, no doubt. It doesn't matter if you can imagine or not. Man sees what is in front of his eyes, but HaShem sees his heart... When it happens, don't try to resist: 1st it's of no use & 2nd it makes so happy to allow Him this ignition of your heart, it's really worth it. ;-)) Yevarehekha et Adonayi Eloheynou!

@@Wisdom23 Shalom Da R! Don't worry... When HaShem will decide to set his heart on fire, he will change his opinion so quickly, that he will not recongnize himself... ;-) Remember Shir HaShirim 8, 6... I too was one of these bros who thought, I will never even wanna marry, but when HaShem led my paths to encounter the girl He wanted to become the Mamale of my Kids, He changed my mind so quickly that I was somehow surprised to find myself wanting nothing else but her to become my wife & the Mamale of my kids. I was at a point where even if my parents would have disheritated me, my reaction would have been like a honeybadger's one: I don't care. I want her and her only. You may have read already: Man sees what is in front of his eyes, but HaShem looks into the heart. That's not a joke. That's prophecy fulfilling every day somewhere on earth & when it's his turn, he will be happy to throw over board all his former mindsets. Truly, that's the way HaShem acts & it makes happy to accept it when it's your turn... ;-)

I love Jewish people. They’re great. When I was growing up, we used to get along great with the Jewish kids at school and in our neighborhood. They seem to understand the struggle that my people went through, as they understood what it was like to struggle and be different. Anyway, this was lovely, and I thank you for posting this. This put a huge smile on my face.

There are 2 "dances". One before the main course, one after, each lasting an hour, about. This is not an Orthodox wedding, you can tell because of the mixed dancing, and the brides dress. The men dressed as chassidim are not, because they danced holding women's hands. We agree with the victorian's about how sexy dancing cheek to cheek is. Save it for your spouse in private.
