Would you recommend the MKH 8050 or MKH 50 for a run-and-gun setup on a mirrorless camera? How do you think the handling & noise would be like on a camera?

I’ve tried the 8050 only a handful of times on-camera, and think I’d like a mic with a bit more reach. But it really depends on your style of shooting (lenses and distance from subject).

@@dqstudios What do you mean by reach? Is the sound too low when recording? Also, I plan to do run and gun work, so when I'm close up, it will be 30-50cm away and 1-2 m away when using a tripod. What do you think about the 8050 for my use case?

@Maxiixam20 closer to mic is always better. Rule of thumb 1-3 ft from chest area is best for boom placement, so run and gun will pickup ambient sound from around that range best too.

Do you think Bubble Bee is the most bang for buck?

yup - still using it at every shoot

@@dqstudios for both indoors and out?

@laughingthrushmusic5269 It’s windy here so I wouldn’t trust it on a mission critical shoot - I’d use my 416 and rode blimp with fur in windy outdoor conditions

You really need to test these outdoors, not indoors.

I use other tools outdoors - from Bubblebees long hair wind killer to a Rycote blimp, but that is not where most of my interviews are done #differentusecase

So no need for furry covers indoors in your case. An extra outdoor review would have been so useful to people considering buying windshields.

@@burnspete I do see the merit in furry testing outdoors, but I guess I should have prefaced that I was primarily testing the transparency of sound with each kit, which is better tested in the quiet of the indoors.
