Honestly guys it's been so long, the guy who actually sing this might have strolled into these comments. You can tell by the audio quality that this was very experimental and renegade as hell. First episode of Bubblegum Crisis, more than 30 years old. Asking someone who lived by Animeigo who had a decent voice to do a song. The only male song on the entire thing so it's not pike they were going to be convincing anyone to stick around, so it had to have been off the cuff and giving it his best shot. So yeah, obviously not good, but you know what? it drips with heart. It's someone singing and hoping it's worth hearing because they loved the anime enough to even go through the effort. They had to recreate the entire musical track too, so it's not a small thing, not to me, so thank you. Any chance this song gets to play anywhere near me is a special occasion, it means I'm happy, so thanks for the winces and groans Mr. Dandy, such a terrible performance and yet I can remember every word. You outlasted my cynicism. Cheers.

I'm honestly impressed that they were able to redo the vocal tracks from scratch for the dub, given that it was the only way with no access to the master recordings.

the vibe i get from this song is that of a end credits of some random movie that you exit the theater to back in the 90's

It's hard to believe the singer and arranger of this version is a bluegrass musician. Look up "Jack Bowden bluegrass", the man plays a mean banjo.

He was also the dialogue editor for the dub itself

Love it. The thing that makes me like this song is the "lazy" vocals.

Not bad at all, but the Japanese version is quite a bit more powerful. I do like the retro quality of this one though.

...I know I'm probably going to get *lynched* for saying this, but what the Hell, I'm going through with it; this was actually one of my *favorite* songs from the Bubblegum Crisis soundtrack (though I love just about every single one of them), along with 'Konya wa Hurricane' (I think I like the beat and rhythm of this, more than listening to the actual words). But that's just my opinion.

It is one of my favorites too. Of course Victory and a few others are higher on my list, but I still enjoy this one just as well.

I dont think the English take gets enough credit either. Sure, the backing/vocal aren't the best, but it translates the meaning of the original Japanese lyric pretty well and has a similar haunting sense of melancholy. Really effective when you think about how few people worked on dubs back in the late 80s.
@LightningStrike12122 жыл бұрын
i think it's clearly the best song

@BladeV8 the dubbing studio only had the series on video as reference for redoing the songs from scratch.

I think your right that it is depressing song. If you listen to the japanese singer, his singing is really soothing. Thanks for putting this out. labelashavoc (:~>?=

Bluegrass musician Jack Bowden. He was one of the audio guys at the studio that did the English dub.

I am satisfied to a certain extent that now I understand the lyrics. But....I would love to hear the lead vocals of the band Zero 7 sing this song. His vocal cadence is more close to the Japanese vocalist of the original.

I know the lyrics are hilariously shit, but I actually quite like this song. Probably the way the singer oversings to the stupidest lyrics ever makes it oddly amusing. And the actual music is pretty cool too. But what the hell is 'Mr Dandy' anyway? All I know is it's the password to Cynthia's black box.

XD Whenever I hear this English version, I picture a fat, sweaty, balding, middle-aged drunk guy in a leisure suit singing bad karaoke.

While it is a positive thing that the song was made available to be understood by English speakers, they made several technical errors. The vocalist, the drums, the guitar solo...they just scream of amateur production. The only thing going in it's favour is the localisation of the lyrics isn't bad. A wasted opportunity. BLUEW are a professionals, they should have got a professional pop act to perform the songs for us too.

Whoa.. this is painful on the ears! It's not just the bad singing, but they've replaced the full orchestra Japanese backing track with what sounds like poor karaoke-quality lift music. The same goes for all the English versions of the Bubblegum Crisis songs. A huge wasted effort in my opinion...

Hate how he says Mr. Joy sounds crappy. Other than that he's barely mediocre with this song. Should have someone else try to sing this song.

And that, folks, is what the inside of a migraine sounds like. Pales in comparison to the original song as does the majority of the English soundtrack... and voice acting.
