Did not know about this one! Why does it have THREE sets of MIDI ins and outs? Amazing!
@Lantertronics

Don was intending this to be an all-in-one sort of workstation. I'm guessing he assumed you'd want to easily control multiple MIDI devices with it. And, at this time he was really into alternative controllers (well, he was always into alternative controllers), so he was probably intending for you to plug multiple weird controllers into it. That's all just a guess, though. Buchla was in a whole other universe when it came to thinking about musical electronics!

I bought id700 immediately when it came out and only twiddled stuff not really understanding how to get anything out of it. It’s plenty fine fishing for noises but sometimes I have a sound in my head and the complexity of id700 means it can probably make it but unfortunately it requires mastery. Watching this video was the first time I felt any amount of understanding

Awesome video. Thanks a bunch for the explanation on the configurations. Got me comparing them to the Casio VZ ones now.

Interesting! I am not familiar with the Casio VZ series. Is it worth checking out in 2022?

@@Lantertronics I’d say the VZ-1 and VZ-10M are still worth a look today because they pair a complex and deep synth engine with a handy graphical display.

08:20 sure there are yamaha synths that have 4 op feedback ENter the mighty TG77-SY77-SY99 , operators have a secondary input ( when only one input is used ) , which can then be used for either feedforward or feedback assigments SO if you take algo nr2 from the dx 7 which are two towers , the right hand tower consists of four operators in serial . Tap the output of operator 3 ( the bottom carrier ) into the top modulator et voila , 4op feedback . The TG-SY range is the creme de la creme of fm synthesis

I can't help but think the 'X' and 'Y' carrier outputs of the elektron digitone owe their origins to the Buchla configs.

I wonder how different the Korg Opsix algorithms are in comparison. I know it does a lot of DX7 compatibility and they added a lot more variation by doing things like using an effect as an operator, but it might be interesting to see how they compare against the Buchla. I think I saw Alessandro Cortini might have had one of these in his collection if you look up some of the studio tour vids.

Ah yeah, I've seen that video of Alessandro. He was very kind and helpful when I was trying to sort out what the Buchla 700 does.

Have you looked into the algorithms of the GS-1 vs the later Yamaha synths and the 700?
@Lantertronics
@Lantertronics 10 ай бұрын
I seem to recall the GS-1 is 8-op, but restricted to four modulator/carrier pairs as the only algorithm.

@@Lantertronics it's layered bi-timbral 4-op. There are also 4 different algorithms. I have the operator manual for the editor I should send you.
