Excellent presentation. I've enjoyed this debate since the 70s. Saw my first 110 in 1974 and wanted one from that moment on. Didn't get one until 1978. At our camp there was much skepticism about using a folding knife for hunting and the virtues of stainless steel were questioned. The older guys 40+ were generally not impressed. It was comparatively expensive and not easy to come by due to its popularity. Those of us under 30 almost universally wanted a "Buck knife" - which was the universal parlance for any lockback folding knife, be that a Buck, Schrade, Western... They became widely popular among blue collar tradesmen and I even had a few teachers who EDC'd (not a term we used back then) a "Buck knife." They were so common that one could be considered unfashionable to be seen sans a knife in a belt pouch. Times have changed... My own hunting knife experience began with knives very similar to the Mora, the Western 66 and 48. They worked great. The 110 became my primary hunting knife from late 70's to the early 80s when I transitioned to Loveless style drop point hunters after being heavily influenced by articles in hunting periodicals. That lasted for a few decades before I 'rediscovered' the 110. It just works, they are widely available, comparatively inexpensive and there is a sense of nostalgia that takes me back to those campfires back in the 70s. Is it a good knife? IMHO it is for me. What is best for others I can't say. Thanks for posting and sharing a little bit of the hunt with us.

@@kirbycreekmo What a truly lovely comment, that's for sharing a bit of history. I love hearing stories like this and I really think this is where the buck is leagues ahead of any other knife. The stories, the memories and the people!!

Been carrying a 110 for 51 years , it's a good all-around folding knife . I'm on my third one from wear and tear plus a lot of sharpening over the years , I did have my second one break at the spine / spring where it hooks to the blade but that was my fault having dropped it open from about 40 feet up with the blade in the open position . I made the first Buck 110 Finger Grooved Hunting Folder for a friend back in the 1970s , after he turned it in for repair Buck came out with a copy of the one I did for my friend . ( I retired as a master jeweler for over 40+ years ) . I think I still have 3 working 110's including my first one that had only 2 rivets holding on the scales and a 111 , plus a lot of the smaller pocket knives made by Buck , Any real biker worth his salt carried a Buck 110 back in the 1970's & 1980's in the United States

I have one and use it, but not as a hunting knife or game processing knife. For that I much prefer the Buck 685, one of the most cost effective, practical knives I own for that purpose. I have many of the Mora knives too; six, I think. I think the Buck 110 is honestly more of a country boy and farmhand type knife at its roots here in the States, and they like to go hunting, so that is why it is a "hunting" knife, sort of like how "bushcraft" knives are popular, but in reality there aren't many people living in the wilderness nor as topiary groundskeepers, and those that are probably prefer using saws and axes. Cheers.

Well, my father certainly loved it. An old family friend gave me one when I was about 8, and Dad 'annexed' it shortly thereafter, and used it for field dressing elk (wapiti) and deer. I think its thin blade and ease of sharpening were the features that made him prefer it. Before that he had used a thicker bladed knife, of a harder steel, less suited to sharpening in the field, more suited to whittling than skinning. On the downside, the Buck knife rusted more easily than his old knife. I think it must have been of carbon steel, rather than the stainless you have there.

I own the 110 but if you want the perfect folder for hunting than you should get yourself the Böker Optima. The Böker is a totally other level than the 110. My Optima is the stag model and you can switch blades in seconds for every hunting need. Spear point blade, drop point blade, saw, gut hook. A blade cost as much as a 110 but the Optima way more versatile. Cheers!

Never gonna understand why one would choose this knife beside from one and only one thing, some of your beloved past away relative had one. And they said it was a good knife. And it might have been back then, but not today, in my opinion. I carried one for 6 months to try the hype and I hated everything about it.

Incredibly overpriced for what they are. They weigh a tonne and the steel is absolutely horrible for edge retention and toughness.

This is not a good knife. It's THE folding knife for hunt, fishing and hiking. I have my 112 for 23 years in my backpack. Greetings from Germany.
