Buck 112 since 1978 in Alaska. Still hangs on my belt.

My 1973 Buck 112 in 440C is my edc. I have thumbstuds on my 3 110s and my 2 112s. All open one handed very easily. Thanks for your review!

It sounds like you have quite the Buck collection. Did you add the thumb studs yourself? I hope you get great use out of your knives. Thanks for commenting and watching.
@krazmokramer Жыл бұрын
@@thecanadianedge1 Yes, I added them myself. Google "Kwik Thumb Stud". Easily placed. Easily removed. No damage to knife if you don't over tighten the set screw. Mine are all in stainless but they are available in stainless, brass, black anodized. Kwik is the only brand I have purchased. There are cheaper knock-offs available but I can't vouch for the quality.

Tip for a quick way to clean up that knife. Rub a coating of toothpaste all over the knife... everywhere. Let it sit about 10 mins. Rub it off with a dry washcloth. That knife will look almost new.

Good review of the Buck 112. This is a proven and solid knife. I have one in my collection and it sees sheath carry on my belt from time to time.

Just subscribed because I love older knives of all makes and styles. Also am a collector of knives, guns,vintage fishing gear and whatever else I find interesting. Keep'em coming. 👍👍👍

Thanks for that. It seems like you like collecting a variety of different items. It must be hard on the pocket book? Good for you though. Collecting is fun. You have good taste in knives as well. I like some of the vintage knives also. Most people only got rid of the old vintage knives because they sharpened the blade to nothing. They lost them or you handed them down. You could always rely on them for sure. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel.

I prefer the 112 to 110 as this one feels more secure in the hand. I have the newer rounded one but either was a good working knife. The warranty is very good and they swapped mine out with no questions. Thanks for your video.

I carry a 110 daily on my belt. Very nice review. I've beat that 110 past its limit a few times, and the warrenty is just absurdly good. I love my buck knives. They are made just up the road from me, as well as Tops, Esee, Chris Reeve, Koenig, Pirahnas, Millit, and Idaho Knifeworks. Very good review and it's good to hear the blade is being put to good use by your friend.

Looks old, brass needs to cleaned.?maybe trip to the Buck Spa? Also I think the blade steel is 440C not 420 HC
@thecanadianedge13 жыл бұрын
Hello Arlen. It does need a bit of cleaning or just more use. You could be right about the steel as it is an older knife. Thanks for commenting and watching.

Not sure how relevant this is given the age of the review, but given the disagreement over the blade steel on the Buck 112 I decided to do some digging. The answer to what steel your Buck 112 (or 110, 119...) is that it depends on when it was made. The consensus answer from Blade Forums is that Buck switched to 420HC in either 1992 or 1993. Prior to that they were using 440c. Given the way the sources quoted phrased it, it sounds like they stopped producing 440c blades in 1991, started phasing in 420HC in 1992 when existing stocks of 440c blades were used up, and finished the transition by 1993. www.bladeforums.com/threads/when-did-buck-start-using-420hc.985701/ As for the knife itself... It is a solid knife, regardless of when it is made or what blade steel it uses. That said, IMO the Buck 112 w/ the brass bolsters is too heavy for a pocket knife. Its OK for a belt knife, but 5.6 ounces is very heavy for pocket carry. The various lightweight versions (either the old BSA Scoutlite or Slim Select) are better options if you want to pocket carry a 112. Even they may be a bit bulky for a pocket carry depending on where you're carrying.
@thecanadianedge12 ай бұрын
It is always relevant. Thanks for all that research. That is great information. I would think this knife is 440C, given your info, as I got it in about 1996 from an estate sale and it needed some cleaning up then. I agree that it is too heavy for a pocket knife and now they have the lighter versions. Thanks again for all your hard work and for watching. Cheers and have a great day.
