I use my 102 for all my hunting needs. It is awesome for small and large game. The 119 is a bit cumbersome when field dressing a deer.

One thing you didn't comment on it all that I just wanted to point out as a fan of the book. 120 my entire life and i've owned multiple versions of the same model, As in, I've had the classic nickel in black handle to the brass and wood handle to the particular one I carry Now, that is the 120pro with my car to handle and the s35vn steel. Is the balance of it for a hunting knife or as most people look at it would call it a bowie knife. the way it is weighted is where the blade feels practically weightless, and you can wave it around as fast as a Fairburn sykes fighting Knife. Just wanted to point that out. Also, the handles of the 119 an 120 are supposed to be of identical dimensions. Idk if urs is a weird one and maybe thats why it was cheap? But yah. I collect bucks, and im looking at them right now, theyre the same size.

Good honest review. This actually reminds me of Donnie B All Day's first video on the Buck 124 Frontiersman. He had a little edge damage there too, but like you and he both said they are hunting knives and not chopping knives.

Excellent Excellent Excellent video. I love to collect knives and use the some extend. I plan on getting the 119 or 120. I like to look a knife fro protective and survival but at the same time that it looks stylish. Again it excellent in helping me to decide on a 119 or 120.

I watched DBad beat on his Buck 119, batoning, drop test, hard downward throws, chopping and feather sticking. If I remember he had no damage what so ever. I myself have only used my 119 for deer meat processing. Can't remember how many years I've had it but I have sharpened it once and stropped it quit a few many times. I do believe they changed the steel formulation since many years after I got mine but I would assume it should be pretty equivalent even today.

@orlandoherreraoutdoorstexa73532 жыл бұрын
Great video, but.. Why use a "hunting knife" for chopping, splitting wood, processing tender and woodcraft chores of the sorts. Wanna process wood? Use an axe, a fro, or a hatchet. Wanna go out and pick a fight with a gun toting dude get a "fighting" knife or a gun if you don't live in cali. Wanna process a deer you just killed use a hunting knife. Be practical. Buck also make the Buck Compadre which would be alot more practical for camp chores and processing wood if anyone feels the need for beating your knife with a limb. They also make the fro for that purpose exactly. If this was your only knife then make yourself for some poking sticks or split some stones and make a Tomahawk. Dont take a. 22 lr to a hunt a grizzly bear. The correct tool for the job.
@TheNuttyKnifeGuy2 жыл бұрын
All of that is true: right tool for the right job. However, if things take an unexpected turn on a hunting trip and events go awry, you use the tools you have with you at the time. I'm not saying you should process wood with a dedicated hunting knife, but it's good to know if you CAN do so if a situation demands it. It's good to know how a hunting knife performs as a fighting knife if you end up fighting with it. (against a human attacker of a wild predator of some sort.) In this case, I received new information on the Buck 120, retested it, and found that it vindicated itself nicely. I did a follow-up video on that. Thanks for the look and the comment.

Buck build hunting knives, not bushcraft knives. Use 1095 tools or similar steel to do wood work. 420HC is perfect for hunting work. Sorry for my english, i'm french speaking... 😉
@TheNuttyKnifeGuy3 жыл бұрын
The thing is that hunting knives often become camp knives or bush craft knives and need to able to perform that type of work with being damaged. However,if you watch my follow up video I retested the 120 after removing some unhardened steel from the edge and it did quite well.

Yes, it would. But the smooth handle is easy to clean as opposed to a handle with texturing that the blood and guts would imbed themselves in, so-to-speak.

Your knife probably didn’t get the heat treatment or it may be a counterfeit 120 I say this because buck knives make all there edges super hard at a rating of 58 so the blade should be chipping not rolling like a unhardened 440c would or any soft metal
