I've had the 420 ss version since I was a teenager. Now at 72, I realize how laughable it was to carry for deer hunting. The farmer next door carried a cheap folding Boy Scout type knife in his pocket & dressed out many more deer than I ever bagged, but it just made me feel good having it on my belt.

If you're 72-73 yrs old now you would of had a 440c version of the 120. Buck went with the 420HC in '92 I think. Pulling out a Buck 120 is bad ass though, it was used on Friday the 13th Part 4, 7, and 8 VHS covers as well. It definitely does feel good carrying it!

My love for knives started early in life. I can remember looking at the Buck knives in the Sears catalog when I was just a young boy back in the 80s. As far as looks go it just doesn't get much better than the 119. Love the channel and content. Thanks for sharing and take care my friend.

I used to love camping until these stupid dogmen started multiplying and being in much of the thicker parts of the woods. That said, if I ever did go, I would trust my life with this knife, than a bigger knife that barely holds a pointy tip.

What a gorgeous knife. If it was a beauty contest, the 120 takes the cake! I love my 110 folder as a hunting companion and never needed anything larger for game. In fact, I use a Buck Paklite skinner most often for field dressing. The 120 seems like a terrific all-rounder. Thanks for putting out great content. No matter how many variables there are out there- I always seem to circle back to the Buck brand. Bought my first 110 in military 1972. Thanks again. Keep the videos coming… 👍

I hear a lot of groaning about D2, but I like it for it's balance of utility, edge holding capabilities and price. I would love one of the smaller buck blades with D2, but this one is just a bit too long for me. Thank you for again doing a great job bringing us another option for our outdoor carry. Keep up the great work.

D2 done right is awesome steel 😎better cutting toughness edge retention than some super steels, D2 was kind of the starting place for a lot of modern formulations which of capitalized on powder spray metallurgy using high amounts of VANADIUM in their formulation D2 kind of started the show and that aspect of vanadium using to make a tough steel. I love the D2 you just have to know how to apex sharpen it correctly 😎

i have many buck knifes . The ones I use the most hunting is the buck 110 and buck 105 . I really like my buck 120 and 119 knifes , but I have to change my grip up onto the blade for more procise cuts . Whittling and camping is when I use my 119 and 120 knifes more . The buck 102 is the most uncomfortable buck knife for me because of the smaller handle . I have Buck knifes in 440, 420, d2 , s30v and s35v. My favorite 2 is in s30v and d2. Both are buck 105 models. I prefer the 120 over the 119 . I have had my 120 in 440 for 40 plus year and have abused it a lot .

Great review and input Aaron. ... Just by serendipity, I ordered a Kabar D2 Extreme plain edge yesterday. It'll be my stay in the truck utility/camp knife. ... I took a Buck General (120) with me to fight in the Iron Triangle (III Corps) Vietnam in 1968. Truthfully, I rarely had any need for it, the way we operated in Army Infantry, or for the horrible food we were given. I carried it for about 5 months and only recall using it once, to free myself from clinging vines in triple canopy jungle. Then I snapped the blade off at the hilt. Of course I was diappointed, but in retrospect, I didn't miss it a bit during the 7 months I served in the jungle without it. It had been just a macho, status symbol, extra piece of useless gear to hump. ... I fpught wildfire as a career in Alaska for a couple decades. We sheltered in extremely remote, primitive camps with crews of 16, or helitack loads of 6. Each of us did all our own food prep from large fresh food boxes helicoptered in every 3 days. Knives were used for slicing 5 lb cheddars, large canned hams, potatoes, onions, carrots and 1 steak every 3 days. The rest of the vegetables were canned. Lots of PBJ sandwiches, and hot dogs. Also lots of fiber tape to cut. I liked about a 5" fixed blade, 4" folder and an SAK for that work. A Buck 119 in S35VN would have been perfect. ... I hunted big game in Alaska too. For Moose, Bison, Caribou, and Dall Sheep, I liked a 5" or slightly longer drop point, hollow ground fixed blade. A Bob Dozier Elk Hunter in D2 was perfect for me. Truthfully, a Buck 119 in S35VN would have worked well also. ... For most of my fishing, including large salmon, I prefer a dedicated flexible filet knife of 6"- 7" and a 4" filet knife for trout, and Grayling. ... The D2 Buck 120 looks to be great for food prep, but I prefer a saber grind for an all around camp knife with making stakes and fire prep on the agenda. ... Thanks again for great video Aaron.

This review caught my attention as I have yet to get a Buck fixed blade and this one peaked my interest. Usually I wouldn’t go for this style if knife at this size, but some of your testing and examples of use convinced me to plan on getting one. Not sure which one yet as I like other versions of some of the pro series too. My favorite large all-around blade is my Skrama 240. I’m trying to expand to more premium US blades like Tops, Esee, and Buck and ones that are slightly smaller like this one. My most recent purchase is the Tops Brushwolf which is in the early use phase.

Interesting …. I have been using knives in the Canadian wilderness for both camping/hiking and hunting everything up to moose. Buck knives have been my serious go to knives for both those endeavours. The Buck 120 Pro (S35VN steel) is my camp knife for the northern tours and it’s fantastic for field dressing and skinning big animals like elk and moose. My general hunting knife is the Vanguard 192 (with the same wood as your 120 and in 420HC) and my ranch knife is a Buck 110 (Guide version in S30V, rosewood and cerakote blade). It’s an awesome working knife which includes having to occasionally butcher a steer or heifer in the field. I have a variety of other working knives but I always seem to go to the Bucks when I need high performance. Thanks for the video!

Been using Buck knives since I bought my first one in 1971, the 110 folding hunter. On my 2nd one & a 110 is still on my belt 50 years later. I Carry a Baby Buck 55 pocket knife, mini me 110. Those 2 knives are on me everyday of my life. I have several other Bucks but for camping etc. I have always used a special edition 119 sheath knife, with Cocobolo handle and a brown sheath vs black. Their sheaths on the 119 & 120 are the best leather sheath's you can find ! My original 110 has a ton of sentimental value to me, the sheath has been repaired & worn out again & the blade is half the size of a new one. I even dropped it in a blazing fire once & it just blackened one side on a little spot,... more character. I think I'll still send it back one of these days for repair. The 119 rules in the field !!

Mostly from what I see and read it’s more of a collector knife. It is my belief because I can’t do any more than 119. Again if I had to pick definitely be the 119 and that’s the one I own. Great detailed nice review as always. You and your family stay safe.

I have a 120 with the cocobolo brass handle. Like most people say it's too long, I just got it for collecting. I recently bought a 119 Brahma with the leather handle and I switched the sheath with my regular 119 brown sheath and it looks real nice. Even the regular 119 with the cocobolo brass handle looks much better in the black molle sheath for the Brahma. The gold and reddish handles standout against the Black Sheath much nicer. Waiting for the postman any minute bringing a Esee 5 with contoured handles. It's been years I've been thinking about this knife for a few years and I finally took the plunge. It could rain, snow, hail and yellow crocodiles could be falling from the sky and I wouldn't care.

For me the Buck 119 would be my carry. I have been packing an axe for chopping and splitting and I like to take along a a larger thicker knife for all unexpected needs. But to compliment the big knife, I always scout carry a 4" flat grind as my go-to knife for absolutely any job that comes along. That said, the 119 with the high hollow grind would be in line to fill that need. I am a fan of Buck knives and it is really good to see this review. Buck 103 Skinner is one of my favorites. Grinds- It was Chris Reeve who convinced me to go with the slight hollow grind. I tried the flat grind, and the slight hollow. The flat seemed to be sticky, no matter how sharp the edge was. I'm only just getting into fixed blades now because I started the vanlife (It got delayed a month ago because the second day of my new vanlife journey I got rear ended by a big truck and it's still going to take another few months for repairs with all the replacement parts being backordered). For the last 20 years I've been a folding knife collector & hobbyist and I like smaller knives, so 2.5-2.75" blades have been my preferred size. Now that I've switched to fixed blades my most common EDC knife is the Bradford Guardian 3, but right now I'm trying to decide what knife to ge as my camp knife that will be getting a lot of use. I just ordered a WC Knives Master Bushman, but I'm a collector and hobbyist, so it won't be long before I start getting more knives in a similar size.

Q/W, my favorite fixed blade length is 5-6 inches for most things but longer blades do come in handy. Nice review!

I love fixed blades and buck knives. I do love big knives but the most carried are small 3-4 inch edc fixed blades. I have been gravitating to and carrying those a lot lately.

I love the iconic style of the Buck 119/120.

Thanks for the review of the Buck 120. I have the same 120 with brass bolsters and a brown sheath, and a 119 with phenolic handle. Both the 119 and 120 are cutting tools , not made for heavy chopping, there isn't much weight in the blade. And because cutting with a long blade is not very precise, I would choose the 119. For heavy duty work in the woods, I also own a 124 Frontiersman, which is full tang. But even the Frontiersman does not have a heavy blade, most weight is in the handle. It is a beautiful and very strong knife, but not the best chopper. I found out that knives from the Spanish brand Cudeman are better for my tasks, chopping / batoning etc. They make a wide range of all kind of "bowie-type" knives with full tang and stainless steel. And they are cheaper too 😉 Greetz from the Netherlands 🙋♂️

Thanks for the opportunity, Aaron! I was pleasantly surprised at how well the D2 did with humidity! I need blades of two different lengths, generally. 10-18 inch machete/big knife and 4-6 inch stainless belt knife/folder.

Humidity level in Cyprus (the country i live in) have reached a high of 91/92% back in 2020, with anything north of 70% being the usual during summertime. I haven't had any problem whatsoever with D2. Done right , is one of my favourite 'standard' steels

@@christospapakostas8405 that's really great to know!

Contrary to what a lot of knife people will tell you, D2 is close to be stainless (it has 11.5% to 12% chromium). I left one of my D2 bushcraft blade by mistake in a sink with water overnight ( it had resin on it and I forgot to get it out of the water), and the next morning it didn’t have any rust on it.

@@awesomereviews1561 I've read before that it has something to do with how much of that chromium is free and how much of it has reacted with the carbon to form carbides. That being said, I can only know from my experience and what i read, and, like in your case, i've never heard anyone having issues with it rusting. That makes it a stainless in my book!
