I appreciate the kind words Andy and so glad something was helpful to ya. After you scribe the lines with the wing divider you can achieve more depth and burnish if you run a bone folder along the lines I think I show that alittle clearer in my Tips video volume 8 Thanks again!!

Great upgrade for a classic knife! 50 years ago my first folding knife was a buck, over the years I’ve bought a dozen more bucks , love them! Also the mention of the p38 brought back a bunch of memories, i was issued one back in 1974, of course then we had c rats and needed them, don’t know if they are still issued with today’s mre’s, thanks for another great video! Absolutely agree on the Buck knives I’ve owned dozens but wish I still had the 110 from my youth daze Oh the stories! I joined in 1974 too and wish I’d kept a few of the b & c rations with the 2 pack of smokes and P-38 in em 🇺🇸🤙

Thank you Gustavo Very nice of you to say. I don’t use tokenol You can use a bar of glycerin saddle soap or liquid saddle soap, beeswax or just water. The trick to smooth shiny edges comes with hand sanding your edges. Start with 220 grit, then 400-600-800-1000 grit sandpaper and your edges will shine.

I have gotten into doing more sheaths, and really like doing them. Your work is the benchmark for me to strive to attain! Can you tell me what you use to do the edge lines? I mean the area like on the belt loop portion. I cant seem to ever get mine to look that good. Thanks!

Thanks as always Fred for your positivity and support. Actually those crease lines are achieved by those wing dividers followed up with that plastic bone folder The leather must be lightly moistened to take a deeper crease line. Cheap n quick😂

@@viktorgeorge9144 You know, I knew the answer would make me whack myself in the head and say " DUH" !! lol I have been trying to use one of those cheap adjustable creasers from Tandy, for years, and never really got the results I liked. I thought about getting some of those fancy edge creasers, but only are one size, and a little pricy! I think my method was not the best either, always tried to do it in a single pass, but like I said... duh on my part !! Wrong tool, too wet, trying to do it in one pass, IMPATIENCE... etc . If and when I overcome those, I am sure they will get better. Sad thing is, I have a set of dividers I can sand down, got the bone folder, or folders! And could have been doing it this way all along! Time for a little polishing and practicing Thanks again sir. Looking forward to the next one!

Good day Sir Love the way you explain and do your sheaths. I was wondering what will be your take on a machette with the tip of the blade end is larger then the beginning. I have a few military machette and would be curious on on your put your twist on it. Great job my friend.

Thank you RLW! Those style of knives make it more challenging because of that shape. I’ve made several scabbards for those but it’ll never be form fitting otherwise it’ll never come out of the sheath Good luck!

For my first ever knife sheaths, I followed your video for the KBar magnetic retention sheath. My first one of the five I made, the knife was very difficult to remove. It turned out that my welt was thinner than the blade. If you mentioned that in your instructions m I missed it, so to all us newbies…make sure your welt material is as thick as your knife blade.

Thanks Don. I think that would depend on how thick both layers of the belt are and if it’s been sealed with waxes or acrylic. At least worth a try somewhere near the turn back so if not no harm! Thx for your support

Hello David For most fixed blade knife sheaths 8/9oz VegTan leather is the norm. Smaller pouch sheaths can go 6/7oz but also depends on the size and weight of the folding knife. Think Buck 110 versus a Case Trapper for example. Traditions Leather in Oklahoma is a great leather resource but of course Tandy leather is a good place to go in person to pick out. Their European bends are a good way to go. Yes all the straps and add on belt loops would be of the same weight

I am trying to make a similar type sheath. The knife is an Ontario Knife Company “Afghan”. The blade is 1/4” thick and the handle is 1/4” wood on either side of the 1/4” tang. I am using 9/10 oz leather. Can you recommend how many layers of leather I should use?

If you’re talking about the welt thickness I would first place by gluing one layer of welt (9/10oz) onto the sheath face and then sandwich the pieces together You should be able to guesstimate if another layer of welt is needed. Remember you can skive the welt down to the thickness needed. So hard to explain that in words tho. Good luck
