Their harmony was magic. When Don Rich was killed in a motorcycle wreck in July of 1974, Buck suffered a nervous breakdown. He was never the same. Don Rich was just a big a part of the "BUCK OWENS SOUND AS BUCK WAS"...

Everytime I hear a song by Buck and Rich I'm surprised how well these voices fit together. At the same moment I'm saddened, this fabulous duo ended so tragically.

I really believe they knew each other in another life. Their friendship seemed like they were like best friends/brothers. Don and Buck were kindred spirits. It's like they could read each other's thoughts.

Definitely. Although I am a steel guitar player and Buck has has some of the best steel players, it was Don who defined the Buck Owens sound. He should be in the hall right next to Buck.

What an absolute man of music. He is the greatest and I know he is missed very much. I sure do miss him. He hits the mark every song he sings or plays. I am glad I found how to order his music. Ebay has abouut anything you can think of. I can see why Buck said when Don died he lost his righ arm. What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful man. Bucks death was a great loss. He was a legend in his time. Heaven must be full of country singers. Thanks guys and I hope I get to meet you in Heaven.

As many times as I think of Buck and Don's pairing, I once again remember that Don stopped playing for good when he died in 1974, at the mere age of 32. Considering how young he was, I think his sound and presence quickly matured. The world of music and other celebrities is no stranger to lethal misadventures, no matter the cause. Whether from vehicular accidents or substance abuse incidents, we'll always be left to only what was, as opposed to what might have been.. Other than say my saying more about Don Rich, I think the quotation from Buck Owens himself says the most, and says it best: "He was like a brother, a son, and a best friend. Something I never said before, maybe I couldn't, but I think my music life ended when he died. Oh yeah, I carried on and I existed, but the real joy and love, the real lightning and thunder is gone forever." It was only a few years ago that I read his quotation. I'm glad he was around as long as we had him.

On this day in 1961 {March 20th} Buck Owens' "Foolin' Around"* peaked at #2 {for 5 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country and Western Sides chart, the five weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for those five weeks was "Don't Worry" by Marty Robbins... Between 1959 and 1988 the Sherman, Texas native had eighty-nine records on the Hot Country Singles chart, forty-seven made the Top 10 with twenty-one reaching #1... And from July of 1963 to September of 1967 he had a string if fourteen consecutive #1 records... Ten of his eighty nine charted records were duets; six with Susan Raye, two with Rose Maddox, and one each with Buddy Alan and Dwight Yoaham... Buck Owens, born Alvis Edgar Owens Jr., passed away at the age of 76 on March 25th, 2006... May he R.I.P. * "Foolin' Around" was Buck Owens' second of seven of his records to peak at #2 on a Billboard Country chart... And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of Billboard's C and W Sides Top 10 on March 20th, 1961: At #3. "Window Up Above" by George Jones #4. "On The Wings of A Dove" by Ferlin Husky #5. "Let Forgiveness In " by Webb Pierce #6. "I Missed Me" by Jim Reeves #7. "I'll Just Have Another Cup of Coffee" by Claude Gray #8. "Loving You" by Bob Gallion #9. "Odds and End" by Warren Smith #10. "I'd Rather Loaned You Out" by Roy Drusky
