I enjoyed your video very much. Been to the Crystal Palace and worked for Buck at the radio station he used to own in Phoenix, Arizona (KNIX) I was there for 8 years back in the eighties. Had Buck on my radio show countless times. He was always great to his employees. When I first visited the Palace in 1998 someone tipped him off on -stage that I was a former employee visiting and he called me out from the stage and even shined a spotlight and thanked me for being a former employee...It was very cool. Sadly the next time I was at the Palace was for Buck's funeral in 2006. The funeral at a local Baptist Church was packed and over 5000 people attended. I worked with his family at his radio station, Buddy and Michael and consider working for Buck a highlight of a career in country music radio that spanned 40 years. He was one of a kind.

That's so cool that Buck Owens greeted everyone at the door. Reminds me when I visited the Unser Museum in Albuquerque NM. I took my 6 year old son and Al Unser Sr. Was sweeping the floor and greeted everyone who came in. He shook my sons hand and talked to him. It was the coolest.

My Aunt toured with Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. Her name was Kay Adams and she had a song out back then called The Little Pink Mack. She was also on the Buck Owens Ranch Show. She was an award recipient from the ACM their 1st year-1965. Thanks Jordan ! Great vlog

Great video! I grew up listening to all the old country singers. You did however fail to mention Don Rich who was a huge part of Buck Owens Band. He played standing just to the right and a few steps behind Buck. He was Bucks backup singer and could play the heck out of a guitar. He died in a motorcycle crash in 74 and totally devastated Buck Owens. So hats off to Don and what he contributed to Buck Owens and the Buckaroos!

Buck use to stand at the door and shake hands at the end of the evening. Buck never knew that the 5 yr old he gave shiny half dollar to (my son) would grow up to be stage manager at the crystal palace and still is. If you ever get the chance its a great place to go and the food is good.....

How cool, I lived in Bakersfield up until 2 years ago, now I live in Tehachapi. But I'm moving back soon lol :) The crystal palace is a huge thing in Bakersfield. The Bakersfield sound is famous because of him. Lots of county stars from the early years had houses up on panarama. He's also buried off off Panama. My dad just bid on a job for his monument at the cemetery, they are redoing the whole thing. I have pics somewhere of it lol

Although I've been to the Crystal Palace many times, I didn't see everything you highlighted in the video, probably because I didn't have enough time. One thing I do remember and didn't catch in your video was Dwight Yoakam's motorcycle. When he and Dwight became friends, he told Dwight that he lost one good friend in a motorcycle accident, and was determined that he would not let the same thing happen to Dwight. He basically confiscated Dwight's motorcycle, and it ended up on display in the museum. Buck was truly a class act, and he helped to further the careers of many up and coming artists. In addition, he loved his community and helped in many ways without wanting any recognition for what he did. The Crystal Palace was a labor of love for him. He loved country music and wanted a way to share it with the world, and that was his way to do so. One thing I've missed since Buck's passing was hearing his live show on the radio. Many of his live shows at the Crystal Palace were aired on local radio, so even if you weren't there, it felt as though you were. Even some of the shows with special guests were aired on the radio. I remember the Dixie Chicks performing with Buck when they were starting out, and hearing the show on the radio. If I remember right, he even went on Family Feud with them around that time. That was before they alienated many of their fans through their political rants. Jordan, I wasn't sure what to expect when I found this video on KZbin, but I was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm you showed toward the experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip down memory lane. Well done!

I live about 3 miles from the crystal palace and had met Buck several times I can remember as a kid seeing Buck drive that cadillac on the wall around town, Buck was a great man he did and still does a lot for charities he pays for any woman in Bakersfield for there hospital stays and treatment if they have breast cancer and several others that he said he would keep contributing to as long as nobody knew that it was him , because he hated when celebrities would donate for attention, Me and a friend were in there having a beer one day after my friend was going through a breakup and nobody but us and the bartender were in there and Buck came walking thru and talked to us and my friend told him his story and Buck said son there are many more fish in that sea just waiting for you , we stayed abut 2 hours and when I went to pay the tab the bartender said Buck picked it up for you boys....I was in awe I ran into Buck about a year later and thanked him for buying our drinks and before I even got a chance to thank him he said "hey hows our boy did he find him a sweet little lady yet?"

Just watched this vlog and it reminded me of when my boss and I came down to Anaheim for business back in the early 90's. He insisted that we go to the Crazy Horse Steak House for dinner. When we walked in, who was on stage being videoed but Buck Owens himself. They taped him doing a few numbers and he quickly left. Pretty cool to run into him like that.

Really enjoyed the tour through the museum but a couple of things I thought you would have mentioned were missing. That 12 string was a Mosrite which was a local legend having it's heyday in the 60s most notably making their Ventures model. Also the telecaster by the picture of John Wayne looks like the one that Buck repaired with the tooth of a comb before a show when the guitar fell over and broke the nut. Finally when you say that the guys on stage were original Buckaroos, that can't be right because, of the original band, Don Rich(guitar, fiddle) died in 1974, Doyle Holly (bass) died in 2007 and Tom Brumley (steel) died in 2009. Only Willie Cantu might still be around but in Nashville.

Buckaroo was written in like 20 minutes! I wrote to Buck Owens in the 90's and he hand wrote me a two page letter back with a pick l ask for, he thanked me for writing and sharing my life as a fan starting back as long as I can remember! Great video Jordan! A little bit of trivia for you (you may already know): When his best friend Don Rich was killed in a motorcycle accident, Buck Owens considered quitting singing. Also, Buck Owens & Merle Haggard were both married to Bonnie Owens. I'm with ya on the Nudie suits. Porter Waggoner wore Nudie. I used to perform. I always found it interesting that in the early '70s, Buck demanded that his musicians be "well-groomed" & supposedly threatened to fire anyone who showed up with long hair or a beard, yet in the last decade or so of his life HE had long(ish) hair & a full beard! Of course, the story about the band could've been pure crap. I loved the way he made himself relevant again near the end by teaming up with younger Country stars like Dwight Yoakam. He even worked with some of the Outlaws like Waylon & Willie. I guess he finally rose above the old Hee Haw stereotypes.

After 4 hrs give or take you're body is in a catabolic state, lowering your triiodothyronine and thyroxine, slowing your metabolism and holding onto even the best of calories as adipose tissue to combat the sense of famine it's experiencing to keep you alive. Think of kids in Ethiopia that are starving but have huge stomachs , holding onto more body fat than usual to keep them alive .. just wanted to help, bud.

15 years ago tonight Buck played his last show. Jordan I have a cool Buck story. I had tickets to see him back in the early 70s. But he was robbed in Dayton Ohio after the show the night before I was to see him in Huntington W.V. So he ended up having to cancel the show. I was 6 or 7 at the time. I wrote him a letter and sent him a picture from my birthday the year before. I had a red, white and blue guitar shaped birthday cake. Sent him the picture told him about not being able to see him preform. I told him my 3 favorite songs of his. About a month or so later he sang all three songs on the old Buck Owens ranch show. I believe it was aired Mar 25. 1973 or 74.I would give anything to have a copy of that show. Tomorrow is my birthday Mar 25. Buck passed on my birthday. Just a small thing he did for a little boy at the time. Tells me he was a good man.
