Well... Considering the Princess of Friendship made an 'offcial' declaration of friendship to Thorax, not accepting him could be vary well considered and act of 'war'... Shining and Cadences hooves are tied because Twilight has as much say as she does in the matter. I also feel it is worth noting that during the song, a few characters were seeming to listen to his words and their expressions changeing. The most notable ones were Starlight.

It really comes down to the fact that Shining Armor and Cadance ultimately trust Twilight and Spike at the end of the day. If anything, they will at least give Thorax a chance since Spike recommended it. Ultimately, Thorax is going to have change the way everyone including them is going to view him.

Gamer Wardog Maybe so, but to me this episode and the song might be a personification of race or different cultures, and how we don't understand them. Like how a lot of people think that everyone from the Middle East is a terrorist, when that is not true. Or how people think that all cops commit hate crimes. Maybe that's what the writers were going with this when they wrote the episode, but I really don't know, this is just a theory.

I've often found myself still asking why Shining never used that shield spell on Twilight, Starlight and Spike. Couldn't it tell if a pony that comes in through it was a Changeling or not? I thought it could. It wouldn't be that hard for him to cast a mini version of that...would it? With the quick turn of acceptance I sort of wonder if that was a facade to not hurt Spikes feelings after he sang a touching song. If it was then after the trio left they probably set up some protection steps to better make sure if Thorax goes wild from love that they would be able to stop him, but didn't set up any of these protections in front of Spike to not show him they still distrust the Changeling. I very much enjoy your videos and insights ^^

The problem with this episode was time. The subject matter was too broad to address in a 30-minute episode. Coupled with this being a kid's show, I can imagine that the writers were having some difficulty trying to make the episode easier for children to understand.

That's what I think too. With a topic such as prejudice in any kid show, it sometimes can't be finished in just 30 minutes. Also, prejudice in their world and how it is/could be viewed is very different from our known definition of it

"The Cart Before The Ponies" was fine but everyone in a mentorship role in that episode dropped the ball so hard that it broke through the floorboards, which frustrated me a bit. "28 Pranks Later" was alright as well but I was able to predict the entire episode from the first few minutes, which is rare for me but also takes a lot of fun out of the episode. Also I get frustrated when characters bring everything down on themselves like that. "The Times They Are A Changeling" was actually really interesting for me and I enjoyed it a lot, though I wish they expanded on the moral a little bit within the episode itself.
