😀 A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner - we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.
So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.
Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.
We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

The deer in the forest with the shaggy necks are Elk also known as Wapiti. The males have very large antlers, up to 4ft ( 1.2m) long and can weigh 40 lbs (18 kg). We have been to the Grand Canyon twice and it always amazes you. We camped on the north rim one fall, it has breathtaking views and free camping as well.

The first time we visited the Grand Canyon, thirty years ago, it made me cry, it was so stunningly beautiful. We hiked a mile or so down with our kids, and tent camped on the rim so we could get up early to see the sun rise over the canyon. Just epic!

This video brought back so many amazing memories! I remember so clearly, when I first approached the edge of the canyon, it didn't look real - having seen so many pictures (like you said), my eyes and my brain just couldn't put it together. It is truly a magical place that everyone needs to visit. Thanks, as always, for taking us all along with you!

LOVE this - brings back so many memories! Stunning part of the USA. 22 years ago in June (so VERY hot), my Mum thought it would be fun to hike down and just put up a tent! Never one to follow the rules she discovered that you couldn't camp at the bottom unless you'd booked! So back up the canyon they went. She got heat stroke on the way back up and my brother had to carry her on his shoulders part of the way. They made it but it was a little hair raising!

Tourist-y isn't exactly a problem in winter. Your bigger concern is weird weather which hits you with frost or God forbid, snow! Flagstaff, for instance, is a higher elevation than most of Arizona. Snow isn't out of the question! A desert is a peculiar environment.

So happy y’all made it to the Grand Canyon! You drove right past my mini ranch as you headed out of Williams. Those are Elk at the end…. They are a staple of our diet most years. There is a book written by Thomas Meyer’s about the deaths at the Grand Canyon. It’s really a great read.

The 1st time I visited the Grand Canyon (north rim) with my son nephew, I keep them your gonna be wowed. It was misty rainy day on the rim when we arrived. The boys were like um where's the wow. Zero visibility. And then the clouds opened. All I heard was OMG WOW. One of the best moment's, for both me and the boys in our travels.

I can completely understand the emotional response to seeing the canyon for the first time. In 2013, when I was only 19, I left Turkey for the first time ever to go and work at the Grand Canyon North Rim for the summer. I have seen both the South Rim and the North Rim. Both are amazing but it's safe to say that you don't experience the true magnificence of the canyon unless you visit the North Rim. I am sorry that it was out of season. I live in the U.S. now and I recently went back to North Rim to see it once again! 🤩 I checked Polar Steps and I assume you aren't going to have time to visit Zion National Park and Bryce National Park in Southern Utah?

Lucky enough to have visited 3 times. Awesome place. One memory was on arrival it was very foggy, We walked to the rim with friends who had not been before. Looked disappointing. THEN all of a sudden it cleared wow. We have always visited in summer, yes its busy but as always its a slick operation with hop on/off busses so have never had a problem with crowds. Must visit. Keep it up guys.

Happy New Year fromTucson Arizona! I’ve been watching (and so enjoying!) your travels while recovering from back surgery. Just want to chime in that we’ve hiked down from the north rim and up to the south rim in a day all most yearly for the last 25 years. We are older than you! It’s possible and a spectacular hike. So happy to see your reaction to our canyon. 😊 Also...incredibly envious of your van life and absolutely love your positive and so friendly attitudes. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures.

The music you chose as you shared views of the GC was spot on. Chris, I’m with you as you experience awe and take it all in, truly an emotional moment. Marianne, “ninja driving skills” brought a smile to my face. Yes, YOU drove to the GC. My last visit to the canyon was off of HWY 95 between Kingman and Boulder City. The native Americans have a lookout point that includes a plexiglass floor for viewing below. Some visitors were on their hands and knees coming off of it. I know you’ve already covered that ground, but others might be interested. 🎉

😱😱😱🤯🤯🤯 So glad you two were able to share this milestone with us!!! Definitely got a lump in my throat a couple times at the beauty of the place. One always sees the wide-angle pan used to try to capture the grandeur, but few people utilize the zoom in/out to communicate scale -- well done, Chris!! A bit of a moot point now you're in warmer weather, but I wonder if putting the thermal blanket on the outside of the windscreen would prevent frost on the inside? 🤔🤔🤔 Maybe held in place with the wipers parked halfway up? Dunno if that would be very clever in the wind tho! 🤣 ❤️❤️😎👍xx

This seems to be some sort of sign! I plan to build my bed frame in Jean Claude this afternoon. I bought the van in April 2021. I hope to drive her to the Grand Canyon (from Illinois) taking Route 66 once it is finished. I'm renovating it by myself while juggling life and a full time job. I also decided painting the inside of the van was a good idea, so that made it take longer, but she looks amazing, so I think it's a good trade off. Anyway, this year is the year I complete her and drive her there. I'm so close to getting it done! My family also got me some of the items I put on my wish list (like a camping toilet) for Christmas. I've been excited for this for years. To watch your video when I know it will finally come to fruition, just wow! Thank you for this video! It is what I needed to start the year. You both are true champions, and I wish you the best in 2023.

18:47 😮 There's a scary crack on the edge. Do you know whether there are changes to the edge each year? Where I live the cliffs are chalk, so I am used to crumbling cliffs. I am so glad you had the extension to your arm there! Each time the camera looks down, I get the 'I've just gone over a hump-backed bridge' feeling in my stomach! I think it's because the layers of different rock give the extra impression of the depth.

We visited for 1 night in the autumn last year a few months ago. We stayed in our not converted Ford older Econoline passenger window van which has a queen platform bed and nothing else other than the two front seats. Stayed at the Mather Campground and had Elk in the campground to see. Did see the visitor center area at the rim which was open air tables manned by staffers. Also took the free buses everywhere including the grocery store (When we were on one bus a passenger who spoke German, almost fainted due to having hiked in the heat. The nice lady driver spoke German to her and her companion and got an ambulance and waited with the sick woman with permission of the park officials, until the ambulance arrived. Great helpful people). Attended a nice campfire evening program by a Ranger in the area but drove there. Fun trip! Happy New Year to you both. Safe happy travels! P.S. the big herd near the road where you wanted to park up, were Elk.

Hello Ambassadors Never a dull moment with you guys👍👍 I must confess that I am jealous 😋😋😋. As I said before, views themselves are Geology👍. I am loving it. I am glad you enjoyed Grand Canyon! Just one little contribution here about Geology. Generally it is safe to assume that each colors of those rocks were formed a different time period and took thousands of years to form ( each Rock layer that is). Also, It took Coloroda River 1.2 billion years to carve these rock formations down to almost a mile depth. Marianne I hope you do well with your knee injury. Keep the videos coming folks. Love from Florida. Donna and her husband also drove from FL to GA, TN, NC, SC and back to FL YESTERDAY while Paula and I house/dog sat.💕💕💕 You guys!

Glad you liked the Grand Canyon. When i was a kid , we took school trip 2 day hike from the North rim to the South Rim. Camped at the bottom of the canyon. A few years later I worked at the South rim for a summer. There's always a special space in my heart for the Grand Canyon. I think you can still take a mule train into the canyon , if you don't want to hike. You'd get saddle soreness though. There's a water fall in the canyon called Havasu Falls. Hava Su is Turkish. You can't see it from the top. You have to hike to it or take a plane ride. The Hava Su Indians might be still living down there.

I actually lived in Flagstaff and Page and would make frequent trips to the canyon. The North Rim is superior. The little hill you pointed out is a vent for the actual volcano near Flagstaff. Sunset Crater last erupted in 1066. Williams was a rendezvous place for trappers back in the 1800's

Good morning and happy 2023, guys! Your friends Brittany and Drew (Mr And Mrs Adventure) have hiked the Grand Canyon a couple of times I think! Now that you are in La Paz you could hop over to the main land and check out the Barranca de Cobre. Not sure how doable it is by car/van, but we've done the train that goes between Los Mochis (just across from La Paz to Chihuahua) and it is epic. Supposedly it is even bigger than the Grand Canyon. And as someone already mentioned, those deer appear to be elk, but I'm no expert, so I can't be 100% sure

When we arrived at Grand Canyon, my brother in law actually thought someone painted the canyon.😂

I visited on my own about 12 years, on a mini bus from Vegas. It is really the most emotional place I have EVER experienced and I am very well travelled. It definitely and should be shared (so don't go on your own). As nice as your vlog is, it HAS to be experienced in person to "get it"

The trail that you identified at the bottom, at 11.50 time, is actually a road for off road vehicles. It takes several days to drive end to end.

Happy New Year! We have been to the south rim several times. We have also been to the North rim coming down from Zion. On the west end on the Indian Land with the glass bridge over the canyon. And on the east end outside of Page, AZ to see Horseshoe Bend. All the views are amazing.

And to you as well guys! Soo happy you guys got to see and experience it. It's quite epic isn't it? It literally took my breath away when I stepped up to the South Rim and it opened up before me. There is a mystical saying that the earth cracked open, the moon flew to the sky and was born there. I never really knew just how beautiful Arizona was and it is on my bucket list to return there someday. 🏜🚐
