I lived in Japan in the early eighties, teaching English, enjoying Japanese culture, and I lived in a very old, old style Japanese house in walking distance from Kinkakuji Temple aka the Golden Pavillion. One morning while still half asleep, I felt some Buddhist monk spirits come very close to me. They were observing me and were very surprised to see me, a foreigner. They were having a conversation about me, as I lay there aware of their presence. This was not a dream. This was tuning in to "the other side".

The Kumano Nachi Shrine is where the first Emperor prayed to restart his journey to conquer and unite Japan 2millenials ago, after being defeated in a former war and losing his brother in a battle. So many people, including the current Emperor and politicians come to pray when they need a fresh start to life. It is one of the foundational shrines in Japan and thus is probably one of the most spiritual and powerful. So, I am not surprised that Trudy got some WD-40 to give the door a fresh restart.

I just love watching your videos. I’m SO burnt out watching South America videos which are all about seeing waterfalls and yet another hike😩. What sets you apart are all the amazing places you travel and take us along- the set backs you always overcome- the people you meet along the way and we get to share in their lives as well. You two must be as lovely as you seem on the screen because folk always invite you to dinner. I’ll be so sad when your adventure ends.

The gods and Buddhas of Nachi will watch over you until the end of your journey.😉 A lubricating oil spray commonly used in Japan is kure 5-56. This is available not only at auto parts stores, but also at DIY shops and large supermarkets, and is inexpensive and reasonably effective. Good to keep.

Quiz- How did WD-40 get its name? WD stands for "water displacement" (yes, it can be used as a lubricant (not really good for door locks as dirt and dust can stick to it) and can be wiped on metal to keep it from rusting. The 40 come from the formulations, it was the 40th formulation that the company decided was the best one hence WD-40. The temples where really nice and that water fall amazing! Thanks for another great video.

How incredible! You have to love traveling… I don’t think there is other experience that teaches you about hurdles, signs and weird luck as traveling does. About your route plans… a crazy idea came to me when listening to the China prospects… what about driving through Russia? I know, I know… not the most loved country at the moment but that would be epic, the landscape, the traditions, the architecture, the food, the people, I have never visited it myself but people I know that have, said that it was the best trip of their lives…. I know it is crazy but it might take you to the sea on the other side and reach home! Anywhere we will follow and may the luck be with you!

Although it would not help with a valve problem, please buy a can of tyre repair solution. I bought one in 1978 before travelling around Europe for 3 years, kept it while working in the UK for another 2 years, then took it to South Africa, where I needed it another 6 months later. All the instructions on the can had, by then, been scratched off, but I attached it to the tyre, pressed the button and Hey Presto!, it worked and I drove off the beach. 600 km of driving later, I had the puncture repaired. Apart from that, almost all of the breakdowns I had were within metres of a garage!

In Japan, dashboard temperatures can exceed 70 degrees in the hot summer sun. Care should be taken not to leave heat-sensitive items or items containing lithium-ion batteries in the car. It is known that many cars made in countries with low humidity, such as the UK, deteriorate rapidly in humid countries. Please continue to be careful when passing through humid countries.

I have some of those Hi Torque wrenches. Bought several years ago at a flea market. They have the security hole. Get a bigger can of lube. The van is to old so you will have to do inspections every morning and lube as you go. You might also get some JB Weld expoxy or similar for broken plastic parts.

@@TREADtheglobe Your welcome. I forgot to tell you WD-40 is great for freeing dirty parts. It is not a lubricant like many people think. Because you drive in areas that attract dirt you need a dry lubricant. I don't know what they have in Japan but lube for locks and hinges that don't leave a oily mess that attracts dirt. Happy and safe travels.
