Man, I really hope the public gives this record a second chance. Would be cool to get a reissue with a bunch of bonus material. It's crazy to think what went into this. You have all of Trent Reznor's main collaborators, the producer for Queen's albums, Buckethead, Bumblefoot, the bass player from the replacements, the most prolific session drummer, string arrangements from top film composer Marco Beltrami, and of course Axl singing his absolute best. These songs are epic. He strived for greatness. I hope this album gets the appreciation it deserves someday.

I think all of yall are off base. Let me clear this up. If BH and Slash were in a guitar duel what amounts to a figurative ocean of distance between the twos skill levels would become painfully apparent. Slash cant hold a candle to BH. Slash is a one-dimensional pentatonal box cutter. This isnt saying much. I feel bad mentioning them in the same sentence.

This shit is just amazing. I will miss Buckethead being in GnR. Look, Slash belongs as the guitarist of GnR. I won't dispute that. I don't think anyone should. But for all its flaws, CD represents the one and only instance of recorded music we'll ever have with arrangements, lyrics, writing and vocals by Axl Rose and lead guitar by the uncontested single best shredder in the world. It'll never be "Use Your Illusion," and for the record I don't think Buckethead has a bone in his body bluesy enough to produce the kind of soulful guitar character Slash seems to just effortlessly produce. But listen to this guitar work, then put on "Contraband" by fucking Velvet Revolver and try to make a sane argument that we'd all be better off with more material from that lineup of musicians than the insane collection that produced this stuff, no matter how overwrought some of it ended up sounding when final production was complete. I just hear Buckethead play stuff like this and think to myself "wow - this is NEVER going to happen again."

Buckethead has more "soul" or "blues" than you can imagine. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipm3c6yGi56lhtE I think people mistake Slash's sloppy timing as "bluesy" or "soulful". People thought Buckethead didn't have soul while playing Slash's solos, but its only because hes playing it in perfect timing. You can A/B them. Slash is an icon and has/had his place in rock n roll history, there's no denying it. But that has nothing to do with guitar skill and composing. I'm sure both guys are perfectly happy with their respective placing in the guitar player pantheon.
