I love moldboard plowing. I love the seedbed it makes if you plow in the fall and run a field cultivator over it once in the spring. Comes out perfect.

It's very relaxing to watch large farm equipment at work. I love the many viewing angles and drone work in your footage. It's amazing how modern agriculture has freed the vast majority of the population from farm work. The equipment is far more powerful and more comfortable than ever before.

It really got me that one person said it was too wet while another said it was too dry. 😂 But I’m with you, better to have too much tractor than too much implement.

Not too wet or dry, the roots of the grass is holding the dirt together. They'll need to run a disc over the field asap to help chop it up.

Hi Mike! I think the plowing is appropriate for sod. Usually sod is only 1 /12" to 2" thick. So at 3" he is getting most of the sod roots up preventing a large regrowth of it later. I worked on a golf course building it from the start. We hauled 2" rolled sod for the 16 greens. I did that going through college and damn! it was very hard work and heavy stuff. But after the sod was taken the farmer just disced up the ground for a grain crop. And each type of engine makes there own unique sound due to how it was manufactured and the number of cylinders. I do not think the tractor is falling apart lol. I do know that there will be a lot of sod clumps in the field after the discing so they will gradually break down. Keep up the good work!

Looks good to me! So many people today have never plowed and don’t understand what they’re talking about. Most tractors today will never be hooked to a plow. Used to be that when you bought a new tractor that you almost automatically bought a new plow to go with it. Plowing is the second most fun you can have with your clothes on…, chopping corn is the first, most fun you can have 😜!

I’m glad someone thinks it was fun! As a young teen I thought opening a quarter section took forever with a 4020 and 5 bottom mounted plow! I’d have died at that age without the simple pleasures of an umbrella shade and fender mounted radio! 😂😂😂 (Edit: synchro range, 3rd gear, 4mph, open station)
@BillyTheKid689 Жыл бұрын
Having plowed thousands of acres myself, I wouldn't be happy with job it's doing. Plow improvements have come a long way, perhaps it's an old plow, but it's not completely turning the furrow over, particularly where he's trying to turn it up hill.

I raked hay once with a John Deere 4850 MFWD with rear duals pulling a New Holland 258 Rolabar rake. All the other tractors were tied up and our raking tractor broke down. I've also seen a neighbor pull a Deere 956 MoCo with a Deere 8650 to mow hay in a pinch. Gotta do what you can to get the work done. Personally, I'd love to plow with a 9620R! Our 9520 gets it done with the 12 bottom Wil-Rich plows though. Great video Mike- thanks for keeping all the armchair farmers in check 😂

Regarding the comments about the size of the tractor. For me it would be a pleasure to plow with an oversize tractor. I grew up plowing and it seemed like we were always struggling to get the most out of the traction and power we had to pull the biggest plow we could. 5-16's on a 4020 in heavy clay was no picnic.
@thegreat_I_am Жыл бұрын
I agree. When I started on the farm in the 1970’s ploughing was a real struggle. The tractors could never cope. We even ploughed with two tractors chained together at times. Nowadays you’re sitting there in comfort, listening to the stereo and letting Mr Autosteer worry about keeping a straight furrow. It’s not even like work anymore!
@jasonbrier9957 Жыл бұрын
I have 4 tractors that size Nothing smaller
@jamesbarbour8400 Жыл бұрын
Hard to comprehend that you'd get such negative comments for the great footage that you post. As for the comment 'too much tractor for the plough', I think the fact that he covered that large an area in an hour tells its own story. Unlike we Europeans, American farmers appear to favour higher speed with a smaller implement, rather than dragging a tractor to its knees by loading it with an implement size that continually keeps the tractor near or on its limit. The evidence would suggest that it's an approach that works. Great drone footage as always, interesting commentary and little in the way of overly intrusive music - the machines provide their own soundtrack 😊

Yeah, there are some people who are just miserable, and they want everybody else to be as miserable as they are. Don`t pay any attention to them, they will go somewhere else when no one takes the bait. There is just something relaxing about watching tractors plowing fields, especially black dirt and at least half a dozen or more, bottom plows cutting deep furrows and throwing over big dirt. The only thing better, is being there. Thanks for the video.
