My Henry 22 windage was off. I used dental floss to line up front, buckhorn and center of hammer on the bench at home. Went to range perfect! For elevation, with front sight buried in buckhorn notch at lowest setting it shot about 1.5 inches to high at 25 yards. I carefully used round fine to increase notch depth on my buckhorn. Reblued the notch with cold blue. Didn't have to replace with higher front sight and got it to print 3/4 inch high at 25 yds, so about zeroed at 50.

To see how much you moved the rear sight with the punch, first put some masking tape on the barrel in front of the buckhorn, slightly underneath the front edge. Trace the shape of the sight front edge on the masking tape. Now as the sight is tapped over, you can see if it was a little or a lot or maybe didn't move at all yet. Someone on another comment on youtube called this making a witness mark.

A tip you did not show: Remove the elevator before drifting the rear sight AND place a clean cleaning patch under the buckhorn so as not to scratch your barrel.

Put a piece of tape over the barrel immediately in front of the rear sight where there is a point indicator. Use a pin to mark on the tape where the point is before beginning. Then tap lightly until you notice the point move from the pin mark and mark this new point on the tape and fire the rifle. Continue this until you get you windage where you want it.

Great tip. Thank you. You used floss to align the sight. I guess it is okay for me to use thin fishing line. It seems the line would accomplish the same purpose, and the fishing line will be more substantial in my arthritic hands.

To be honest, I used floss because the bathroom was closer than the garage where the fishing line was :)

Here's some old school. Make a pencil mark on the barrel right at the sharp point at the front of the rear sight. When you drift your sight, you will be able to see how far it's moved.

Why not supply an O ring/ peep sight standard as opposed to buck-horn sight?

Good tip. Well done. I noticed your buckhorn sight was almost in the last elevation notch. I'm guessing you were still shooting low. I had to purchase a taller front sight and do some filing down to get POI the same as POA with the rear sight at its lowest setting.
@easttexan2933 Жыл бұрын
@Daniel Nelson I agree....he should. However, it should not have to be adjusted to the top notch to get to point of aim, so like every Marlin I've ever owned, a taller front sight is needed.

At the dovetail end, the sight is pointed. Add a piece of masking tape with a pencil mark here on the barrel and line things up. than tap sideways with a wooden dowel. A pencil width will work out to 1" at 50 yards. The pointed sight tip is the pointer, the marked tape is where you currently are prior to adjustment. Easier to know where you're going when you already know where you are.

Very informative thanks for posting.. do you have a video on removing the front site? Just got the 1895cb and installed the williams peep onto the rifle..relized that I needed a taller front site and ordered the Williams Rifle Bead 570M and now for the install..
@MeltheNut5 жыл бұрын
I do not, but it is my understanding that the sight gets knocked off right to left and then back on left to right. I would use a brass punch to do the knocking. Many new sights / spacers need a little bit of gunsmithing to be installed. By that i mean you may need to file the sight a bit to get it to fit in the grove.

My Henry Big Boy rear sight is at minimum elevation and the rifle shoots a little high. I added a Skinner rear peep and it shoots low when on the ground and it shoots high when I am in a tree stand shooting down onto the target. Screw it. I guess I will just finally get an optic. Despite the issues with the sights, I love the gun.

I take a #2 pencil and mark the front point on rear sight mark right on the barrel. Drift it and shoot again. The mark let’s me know how much it moved. Lead from a pencil wipes right off with your oil rag.

Hrmm.. this would seem to contradict, what I was told on lever guns for windage, when I looked into it. You tap the front sight over within the dovetail. Which is apparently why BOTH my 336 AND 1894 .44 mag when I first took receipt from the dealer... both had a front site blade that was soo ridiculously loose you could reach up and move it back-and-forth 2-3mm within the dovetail! Apparently it's customary to move em back and forth and then peen the edge of the dovetail a lil bit over with a punch once you've got it so it will then stay there. The rear intended to provide elevation adjustment only. I need an optic anyway with my vision these days, so I just dabbed some blue loctite onto that front site blade, eyeballed positioning it centered along the barrel, and called it a day.

I'm taking a trip to the hardware store today to get some steel and screws to make an adapter plate to put the sights off of my pellet rifle onto my marlin lever gun. It has the windage and elevation adjustment knobs. Gonna be less of a headache to sight in when I'm done. Screw buckhorn sights

@@MeltheNut my Skinner rear peep helped me with accuracy, as I am more accustomed to that sort of sight, but I am still having elevation issues on my Henry Big Boy. My next step is to finally get an optic and see if that helps. Still, I got two deer in 2018 with it. I like the rifle.

@@MeltheNut as far as I know Henry doesn't currently offer a replacement front sight that would help with this issue for me on that model of rifle. That was my initial desire to fix the elevation issue. I will have to remove the Skinner rear peep in order to install a scope mount, but if I can still use the buckhorn sight a s a backup, then I will keep looking for a Henry or aftermarket replacement/ adjustable front sight.

@@Squib1911 You should contact Skinner directly and see if they have a front sight option for your rifle. Can't say as I love the look of the their front sights, but they work. Also, they do need a bit of gunsmithing to make them fit right.
