I would think working out in the forest alone, bucking a tree like that, with the root ball possibly springing back, that anti-climatic is exactly what you would want. 😆

Great video--thanks. I'm learning how to buck logs, but it often goes wrong, e.g., bar pinched, or chain hits the dirt. This video is very helpful.

You are right about the stumps sometimes going down immediately, and the tree standing up suddenly, once cut. I have had that happen twice in a day with two medium-small Red Oaks. They had 15-18' of log above ground. The root system, especially while in wet season, make them very heavy. I was very surprised.

Your hearing protection does it work just as good on the top of your head, as it would covering your ears? Im 59 and 80% deaf from being around loud tools and machines. It really sucks when your around friends and you dont know what there talking about, you just nod your head or say yeah like you do know. It's lonely not being part of the conversation. Any young people out there watching this, use your PP, personal protection at all times. You may think its not too loud, but it is. Examples/ power tools-all of them, rock concerts, lawn mowers, your stereo, air tools, motor cycles, muscle cars. Good video. Take care, stay safe.

Thanks for this video. I have a fallen tree in my front yard that I will need to buck siminar to what you've done. It's smaller in diameter, but you've given me several good ideas in how to handle it. I noticed that you do a plunge on the botton of the log. Does it take a specific type of chain to do that? Also, how big is your bar? Looks like a 24".

Saw mill: Yeah, if you could give us an extra 10 inches on each end, that would be great. Oh yeah, why don't you go ahead and cut 2 inches off your diameter measurements too? Logger then: You're going to pay for that, right? Saw mill: lol NO. What are you going to do, build your own saw mill?! Logger now: You know Alaskan mills exist, right?

Hi Tom. Thanks for watching and commenting. In all my vids and whenever I am using my saw I always wear ear plugs. I have found with those muffs I don't get as good of hearing protection as I do with plugs. Also those muffs get all dirty, sweaty, and itchy. Thanks!
