I agree Sue is a great presenter, but she has van life experience. She’s done it, and now knows what she really needs vs what she wanted and thought she needed. I second the 5% ranking. Bravo! I will soon be getting my own van and decided low cost minimal furnishings until I live in it and see what I really need and the best working layout. I struggle with rear couch/table/bed vs front because the van already comes with 2 seats that I couldn’t bring myself to waste as seating! I also want a passenger side closet as far back as possible leaving room for my rear hide-a-bath also. I’m really on the fence about this and figured I won’t know until I live it. Until...I hear and see Sue’s 270 degree view. SOLD! Great thought put into this build and it shows. Great presentation but more so, excellent design and layout! I like that Advanced RV built what YOU wanted and not pull you toward a predetermined component that they have already done and would be easiest to do. THAT, is real customization!

WOW! That's the word I kept saying throughout your video. Which BTW, you do a GREAT job describing and talking throughout! I REALLY feel you when you discuss four season and offload ability. Why spend the money on an RV you can't use ALL THE TIME... EVERYWHERE? Also knowing the measurements of batteries and tanks is very important. RV companies that install some of the terrible products out there, should be ashamed. The Silverleaf really seems like the way to go. Love the open shower design/concept. It really makes sense. I've often disliked having shower space unused 99.9% of the time. Congratulations on your build. I hope you are able to enjoy it worry free for years to come. If you are ever in the Loveland Colorado area (near Rocky Mountain National Park) feel free to stop in, boondock, empty tanks, plug in and enjoy the area. We have plenty of room. @dlg54855 жыл бұрын
I love Sue's enthusiasm and hands on knowledge of her van and its capabilities. I've been dead set on a 170" chassis since I decided I wanted a class B a couple years ago and I wouldn't have even considered a 144, but after watching this, I think a 144 might actually be the better choice for me. I plan to split my travel time pretty evenly between cities and wilderness and the shorter chassis has so many advantages for both environments (more stealthy, easier to park, better on rough terrain, better fuel economy, etc). Especially, if you travel alone and don't need the extra space, the 144 is a no brainer. I love the layout too, great use of space. The only thing I'd change would be a standard toilet and belted seating for 3 people on the couch. I also noticed that Sue even went with the heavy duty chassis with dual rear wheels, even though it probably wasn't necessary for the weight of this rig, which adds to the capability of the van. Nice job ARV and Sue!
@CampTeslaFun5 жыл бұрын
D LG, thanks for the kind words! I’m loving the short chassis - glad I was able to get you thinking. The chassis choice is THE most important bit. A 144” is totally doable, especially for a solo traveler. Heck, I actually saw a family of 4 traveling (& even sleeping) in a 144” today - 2 bunk beds in back, 2 parents down, & 2 kids up. Good luck with your build!

@Buzzhumma5 жыл бұрын
@@dlg5485 well actually D LG you will find there is no 1 perfect setup for anyone most probably as your personnel style and effeciency of rv living develops as you go. I thing the best advice after 10 years of rv living is to get a cheap van with the basics and start getting out and about on the weekend and you will find idea that work for you. Through experiencing rv life we learn the most benificial setup for our personal way of living. Even still you may chop and change yet still but I must say Sue has created a great setup with her latest van. I for one just have a large toyota hiace with mattress and work desk for my pc and I do any cooking outside as I life in a subtropical area but I have had 6 different versions of van life and they were all awesome fun developing them. 😊
@dlg54855 жыл бұрын
@@Buzzhumma Sure, lifestyles change over time, but that doesn't mean you can;t design a van that is 'future-proof' in many ways. There is no reason a buyer can't come up with a design that fulfills their long term needs, if they really think it through ahead of time. I know some people buy 3 or 4 RVs in a life time. I definitely will not be doing that, firstly, because I'd never be able to afford that kind of whimsical upgrade schedule and, secondly, because I will have been researching and sampling vans for over 10 years by the time I actually build one. Whatever design I wind up with will be as close to perfection (for me) as is possible and that's going to have to be good enough. In any case, dealing with some minor inconveniences due to changing lifestyle or tastes is definitely what I'd call a "first world problem" that I can easily deal with.

Beautiful Sue! Another magnificent build by the good people at ARV. Question; once you are finished with a shower, what do you do with the wet shower curtain? Hope to see you on the road! George.
@Samuel104635 жыл бұрын
I'd think she leaves it hanging for a little while and run the roof fan until the curtain dries up... and George... we love you man!
@CampTeslaFun5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, George!! Agent 404’s exactly right. With the vent fan right above it, the curtain dries pretty quickly. If I want to move it out of the line of view right away, then I just gather it up in a net bag & leave it suspended from the hooks closest to the full-height cabinetry - that way, it still drips into the shower pan while drying, but doesn’t obstruct the windows. The bonus of having the curtain remove completely is that if it ever gets funky, I can just throw it in a washer with some vinegar & it’ll be like new again.

@@CampTeslaFun - What's the ac inverter power? Can you run A/C on batteries? For how long?
@garygarym83185 жыл бұрын
We have found in the colder months with the heat on the curtain dries pretty quick and we like the added moisture in the chassis. @@CampTeslaFun
@CampTeslaFun5 жыл бұрын
agent 404 It’s a 3000w inverter & yes, it can run the A/C. ARV uses the Houghton A/C that has a “soft-start” & only draws something like 8-9 AC amps, so there’s plenty of inverter capacity. I haven’t done a test run for how long yet (winter climates), but I expect it’ll probably be enough battery for an overnight, when needed.

They’re definitely amazing craftsmen! Good luck to you - I hope you end up with exactly the van you’re dreaming about! (=

This van and layout is AMAZING!!!! I’ve wondered how I could possibly have everything I’d want and need in a 4 season 4x4, 144 and you guys nailed it! Now if I could just find a way to work remotely….. that’s the last piece of the puzzle for me to figure out.

Great design & great presentation. Love the lift-up counter to transform space into a bathroom. I chose to build an east-west bed arrangement for 2 people, but this is my most favorite north-south layout I've seen. Thank you for the tour and the explanation of your design consideration.

Wow, impressive design and execution ARV! The build is incredibly clean and well though out. I like the silverleaf control center, being able to control much of the RV's electronics from one centralized place is huge. Glad to see more people choosing the composting toilet, saves so much water and easier to manage long term I think. The decision to go with the 144" is a smart choice for the reasons she mentioned. I like the open shower concept. Saves a lot of space inside. I can never understand how full time van dwellers can do it without a dedicated shower/toilet? I'm impressed that this the van is insulated and designed to be a 4 season coach. The battery system is incredible. I must not fully understand what the macerator does but with a composting toilet why is it needed? The one thing I might quibble with is the lack of a traditional garage or storage for less used items like vehicle tools, emergency spare parts, fire extinguishers, tire air compressor, fill hoses, DEF fluid storage, composting toilet material storage, etc...Full time living with some off road overlanding requires these things but she can always get a few external boxes mounted off the back for these things. Great work ARV, thanks for the tour.

Thanks for the great comments, Nitram Midnite!! You & I must think a lot alike!! I figure the composting toilet probably saves me about 25% on my fresh water usage, since it doesn’t flush. The macerator is there just to make gray water disposal easier (e.g. pumping out uphill into a sewer clean-out at a house). I could easily do without it. RE: “garage” storage - I actually carry every single one of those items you mentioned in the storage area that opens toward the rear door in the full-height cabinet, underneath the bed, or mounted to the B-pillar (the fire extinguishers). Totally agree that all of those things are absolutely required, so I planned spaces for them to live - I’d hate to have to extend the length by adding a hitch mounted box!!

Wow! Those batteries are over 6 thousand dollars alone! That's one heck of an off grid system there! Nice!
@CampTeslaFun5 жыл бұрын
Mountainman - worth every penny to me to have A/C overnight on batteries when needed (like, ummm, this week’s heat wave, for example). Not to mention all the other benefits of having a rockin’ electrical capability for the majority of the time when I’m NOT using A/C. (Love having no propane, for example!!) The way I look at it, the expense for the batteries saves a ton of campground expense - at $30+ per night, I’d pay WAY more than $6k for a single year’s worth of campground fees if I had to go somewhere & plug in, so it pays for itself pretty quickly.
@mountainman44105 жыл бұрын
@@CampTeslaFun Definitely agree. I lived off grid for over two and a half years. I ran only solar during that time. The investment was well worth it.

I've looked at countless video presentations of this sort over the past several years. Sue's is one of the best! Her van build is logical and high quality. I particularly liked her power system and consolidated read out panel. ARV seems to have a lot to offer the full-timer. I'll be sure to keep an eye on ARC for when the time finally comes to take the RV plunge.

Great presentation thank you so much. My daughter that is in college wants to try this lifestyle when she’s finished with school, I have major concerns and I think your concept may have ease some of those thank you and safe travels
@CampTeslaFun5 жыл бұрын
A P , Thanks! Tell your daughter to go for it - this lifestyle is amazing, provided you can find a reliable way to fund it. Tell her to start searching the term “digital nomad” - that should give her some ideas, if she doesn’t have the $$ figured out already. If you’re worried about her safety, ask her to let you follow her on “Find My Friends” or some other GPS locator app, so you’ll at least know how to find her in an emergency- that’s what I do for my folks & after 12+ years of this, they don’t worry much anymore (=
