You have taught me so much and given me the confidence to attack some of our old family furniture needing reupholstering. It's not perfect, but I'm enjoying the process. thank you very much.

I had to laugh at 5:14. I wonder if putting the filler in a larger box and pulled apart a bit would help?

This is fabulous! It took me months to decide about spring height for my project (8-way hands tied box springs). I couldn’t tell, at 2:50, what is the gray border? There’s a gap at one corner, with ties at each corner? Was it from the original materials or did you make a stuffed border, more for the period?

For time and cost savings, I used "Ring-fast" edge roll around the frame. The ties were to keep the miters tight.

Hi Kim! Thanks for this. Question: How do you get the front springs to protrude more toward the edge wire while keeping the centers straight up and down? Are these specially shaped springs?

Go to my video library and look for "Shaping springs for a hard wire front edge." It may be of help with open ended springs.

Kim..when you are covering the front arm panels with the final fabric and you get ready to start working in the area of the concave bend how do you do that area? I have been using a 5 gallon bucket as a surface to lay fabric on and the concave arm panel seems to hug up to the fabric nicely…but I wanted to know how you did it.

In this case, I had a very rigid wood surface to pull against, unlike many cardboard panels. Even done by the best upholsterers, wrinkles and distortion of weave are going to happen in these applications. The bucket is a good idea with limber cardboard panels..

I’m new to this and was wondering about how much you compress springs. I bought new springs before watching this video. 11” springs were the old ones. So that’s what I purchased Is the only solution to buy 9” springs now?
@Buckminsterupholstery
@Buckminsterupholstery 2 жыл бұрын
As I said in the video, the new springs generally compress one-third of their height at 8-10 lbs. but it doesn't always apply to old springs. If your new 11" press down over ten pounds at desired height, you need shorter ones. Did you compare the difference between your old and new as I demonstrated?

Sir, what product are you using to adhere the wood together?

Animal hide glue. Ground hide dissolved in water and heated in the glue pot to a honey-like consistency.

I'm uncertain by what you refer to as "pins". Do you mean the nails I fasten the face panels with?
