Your videos are like a tutorial, a transfer of experience from a professional to a novice craftsman or someone who wants to try restoring grandmother's antique furniture. I bought a very old chair, but someone had already repaired it many times before and removed the seaweed hay and horse hair, leaving only springs, foam rubber and batting. Now I am looking for a store where I can buy all this and I will restore it according to your lessons. I hope everything works out for me. Thanks again for the video!

I just bought these 2 very old & amazing chairs, but the upholstery is a mess & needs a great deal of work. Thank you for sharing. I very much enjoyed the video. U're quite talented! May I ask abt how much to expect to pay to have a chair like this repaired? I have no idea & would like to have some idea so I won't be overcharged.

I really can't say what to expect to pay. This is a chair of my own and I didn't keep track of the hours spent. In your case it depends on the techniques somebody uses and the varying rates of charge you will run into with other shops. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for tuning in.

thank you so much for all of your videos. i don't think you could know how much you have helped me and i'm sure others learn proper upholstery methods. may i ask if you think spanish moss will substitute horse hair? i can easily find excelsior but i'm not happy with the sourcing for the horse hair i've found so far. also - why would cotton batting not be appropriate as a top layer. many sincere thanks in advance!!!

Spanish moss works fine in place of horse hair but it's not quite as resilient or of equal quality. Moss is impossible to find these days processed for upholstery. Cotton is very appropriate.

love your videos and the EastLake furniture. However I have a question; when you have a chair that has been upholstered multiple times and the previous upholster didn't take out any of the tacks and after taking out the nails and tacks your left with lots of holes, how do you proved forwards to upholster it. I'm not sure what you're asking. Staples work better in grasping tack-riddled wood. Using tacks repeatedly is bad...

Buckminster Upholstery I’ve stripped the pice down to the wood and taken out all the tacks I can but the wood looks like swis cheese, do I need to fill the holes with anything before I start putting in the springs ? Thank you

I've never had any luck with wood fillers. They are brittle and break away with little effect on the repair. If the rails are full of holes along with splits, saturate the wood with liquid hide glue and try clamping the cracks shut.

I found two antique east lake chairs in great condition structurally. They need to be restuffed and upholstered. How much wood wool would you recommend purchasing for two chairs? Thank you.

Depends on the size of the chairs. You might get by with 5lbs but as cheap as it is you're as well off to buy ten.

It's sometimes hard to pull in my own furniture and put in as much time as it requires to make one of these videos. I DO intend to get back to the Victorian chair series next!

Why was it necessary to stitch down the edge of the back rest?

You'll see when I apply the cover cloth the padding is pulled away from the tack rails so that the gimp lays flat. It also firms up the outer profile keeping the edges in more uniform shape.

what is the exact product name to order the wood wool or even a link to find the wood wool product ...also is the webbing special i mean are all jute webbings created equal if not what one do you recommend ... and the exact name of the tread you use for tying springs and is the thread you use for sewing different and if so what is that called ... i love your work .. and you really make this look doable .. but im sure having the right products will help make the redone item last allot longer soo please help ..

The straw-like fiber is called excelsior or wood wool. Made from shredded basswood.
