buckpool nature reserve - fens - exploring the black country

I explore buckpool nature reserve in the black country that's filled with history , scenery and even wildlife a section of the fens that was once industrialised for coal mining where the Stourbridge extension canal connects to the side of it . I enjoyed this explore nice to see a new part what I haven't explored .

Buckpool and Fens Pool Local Nature Reserve is situated in the Pensnett area of the West Midlands. The largest area of open water in Dudley Metropolitan Borough, it contains both large and small ponds, one end of the Stourbridge Canal, streams and grassy areas. It was created in 1993.

The oldest mention of Lays Furnaces that I can find is in the Pigot Directory for Stourbridge of 1829, saying William and George Firmstone. Probably as Messrs W & G Firmstone. The family was also involved in the brick and coal industries. All the best, Peter.

The hills you are walking on are old spoil heaps containing slag the vents in the ground are methane release from underground workings.
