Thanks for sharing the walk-through. I'll add a simple tip for anyone else trying this. Make sure you can crack open your fill plug before removing the drain plug!

That's honestly great advice. Thank you! I'm borrowing my uncles 150 and was thinking of changing the trans fluid and differential as a thanks. I never would have thought to check the fill plug first. Damn! Thanks!

One tip: Always open the fill cap before the drain plug to make sure fill cap it isn’t cross threaded or seized on. This way you will still have fluid in it (albeit old hence why you’re doing the change) and can move the vehicle.

Yes, that's a good tip for sure!

Super simple task once you have someone show you how it is done. Thanks!

My 92 ranger was UNDER filled. Owners manual says 2.8Q which isnt nearly enough. No fluid comes out the fill tube until at least 4 qts added. Makes a BIG difference in how it shifts:no more grinding or stiffness.

9:20 Mobil One was NOT the first. The first synthetic oil was Amsoil, Mobil 1 got it from them.

I have that same little pump from Harbor Freight. I use it to change the oil in my wife's Mercedes by sticking a small tube down the dip stick hole. If you pull the handle up on the pump a little slow and wait a min, it will fill the whole pump full, then push it down. It works much better and pumps faster, at least on mine, than pumping it a million times.

Thanks for the tip. Your Mercedes doesn't have a drain plug?
@ruck-a-tron Жыл бұрын
@@Buckwsr It has a drain plug, but at the shops they pump it out the same way. They use a larger pump that costs a lot though, but it's faster. I drain it through the plug every couple changes. The tube goes all the way to the bottom of the pan though so it gets all the oil out. It's just so much easier because the filter is on top too. I don't have to get under the car at all.

I like your fill method, makes sense. Thanks.

Nice video... I gather the drain and fill plugs are on the driver's side of the trans. ? Some people say to use 75/90 gear oil. I'm not sure what is up with that. Thanks !!
@Buckwsr Жыл бұрын
Yes, both plugs are on driver's side. I know it's odd not to use gear oil in a manual transmission, but this one definitely calls for ATF. Thanks for watching the video.

I have standard transmission to my 2000 F150 4.2 v6 so you said it take automatic transmission fluid I need to change mine
@Buckwsr2 жыл бұрын
Check your manual, but yes, these Standard (stick shift) transmissions like mine use Automatic transmission fluid (ATF).

2 questions1,why don't you replace filter and gasket 2,can I fill from dipstick in the engine?
@Buckwsr2 жыл бұрын
My truck has MANUAL transmission....you know....stick shift. So there's no pan to drop, no filter to replace, and no gasket. There's a drain plug, and a fill plug. That's it. There's no dipstick under the hood to check the trans fluid. I'm pretty sure you're thinking about an AUTOMATIC transmission.....

I have a 1998 f150 M5od and I checked it and it was not atf so I figured I should put MERCON LV atf in well not at all satisfied with that move the transmission doesn't shift any where like it did before I changed it so I am going to put in Penzoil syncromesh fluid that may be the one, I have no idea what was in it.
@Buckwsr Жыл бұрын
Mercon LV is a recent product in the Motorcraft line. Surely that wasn't what was used originally in your 1998 manual transmission. I went with the Mobile 1 ATF, and haven't had any problems.

Yeah, I stumbled onto this one almost by accident. I'm really glad to have it.

I just bought a 1999 f150 4.2 manual 5 speed. Nothing special but so far it runs good and shifts fine.
