Great video - thanks much! I plan on doing my truck soon as it doesn't seem like too hard of a job. The toughest thing is not spilling the oil all over! One thing I did notice is at 1:50 he says 15 bolts but I only count 14.

I recommend it on any DIYers reverse their bolt removal order, those back bolts are very tight and can tweak if you leave them for last. My filter slipped down when I was doing it, and it prevented me from pushing the front bolt back into the transmission to provide access like they managed.
@monke19987 жыл бұрын
Would it be the same process and torque spec for a first gen expedition? Also if there is no knowledge of a pan drop flush with a vehicle that has 150k. Is this still recommended to do?
@jackbuffham56802 жыл бұрын
The òne thing that I don't see on any of the videos about this is if you have a replacement gasket that doesn't have the circles where the pan bolts go through what I do is with the inside of the pan up I tap at the bolt holes and you will see little circles around each hole appear and that is designed to collapse to seal without leaking or deformity the pan . This is factory old school but I have never had a leak in 30 + yrs as a mechanic. This works on ant stamped pan or valve cover in my opinion and experience. TAP NOT HAMMER NOW !!! THANKS ..

I've heard some people say never change your transmission fluid or filter that it will cause the transmission to start having problems.
@danielcearley24754 жыл бұрын
if youre already at high mileage changing out the dirtier fluid may allow an automatic trans to slip, if you use a trans flush machine to change it you may push gunk around in your trans and mess it up worse during service. if the trans is serviced more regularly it isnt a big deal on either count.if you have a high mileage, unserviced trans you may just want to look for an additive like lucas trans fix/slip stop. it isnt a miracle fluid but it'll add some life back into the trans if you use it right
@LegendStormcrow3 жыл бұрын
@@danielcearley2475 I was wondering about that. So I'll set ice my Chevy, but not the Ford.

To be honest me as working on cars and stuff I think every transmission pan should have a drain plug and then remove the pan to clean the inside transmission filter and other components to me it will be less of a mess ... Matter of fact when it's getting close to my transmission changing I think I might add a plug if it's possible

So my dad is giving me his old 2002 v8 Ford Expedition. It has roughly 220,000 miles on it. He said he's never had the transmission fluid changed. When I checked the dipstick, it still has some faint red on it and the car still feels smooth. Do I even bother changing the fluid at this point? I hear very conflicting answers.

Hi, I have. 1998 4.6 f150 and I just changed the spark plugs and cables along with a new MAF sensor and it was running fine for a week. This week I added a radiator flush for a couple of days and my transmission started to feel sluggish(3 days into driving) & it was empty when I checked it. I pour a little bit of oil and the meter stick shows that it has too much. I drive it, it begins to show signs of sluggishness and it’s empty again. Didn’t see any leaks in my parking spot or anywhere the car has been parked. I’m thinking it could be a cooling hose but I was hoping to get maybe some advice before I go to war w the transmission. Thanks and thanks for posting your videos. 👍 stay safe everyone ......

Is it normal for the dipstick to leave a dirty mark on the paper towel with otherwise healthy pink fluid, or does this indicate a problem? I'm driving a 1997 F150. Thanks in advance!
@1AAuto5 жыл бұрын
+DJ RaptorXS If you just changed the fluid and did not clean the stick, this is more than likely why its leaving these spots. It also may be due to the fact the dipstick is old and eroding, you may want to get a new one to prevent any marks, or give it a good clean.

@@1AAuto the orange seal of the old filter came out very easily for you. I tried using a pick like you did, but my seal just crumbles but still doesn't come out of the transmission. HELP! How can I get the old seal out? I've got a few tiny pieces of it out, but most of it is stuck in the groves of the port on the transmission! When I use a pick or hook, the seal just kinda breaks apart but it's still stuck in there. Such a PITA! I've wasted a lot of time on that dumb orange seal. Any tips, advice, suggestions???? Thanks!

Hi friend, this is a great video and wanted to mentioned that I had a small accident with my 2005 4x4 F150 (broke the oil cooler and the oil leaked while driving), after a few miles I stopped and had to be towed back home. I'm in Canada and the truck has 270,000 km, got it one year ago and don't know any mechanic history of it at all. I have the new oil cooler and wanted to know if I should change the filter now that is "empty", and if you know how much oil I may have lost and how much oil would require to bring it to the correct level?
