Yes, I am Ryan's father and I was also at that concert. What fun it was to watch these master guitarists love being on stage together and enjoying the large enthusiastic audience. The Capitol Theater was sold out! Ryan had twelve of his Thorell Guitars on display in the lobby and I think Frank Vignola tried out every single one. Bucky sat down and gave a mini concert on the Thorell "Sweet E" Guitar that was on display before the concert even started. What warm and talented men and What A Night!

What a performance of Tangerine! Bucky, RIP...you swung more than any other guitar player, and now John has picked up your torch. And Gene, Gene you are one of the most lyrical, most sensitive player that I have ever listened to! Wow!

What great jazz guitarists! We have Bucky Pizzarelli, Gene Bertoncini, along with Howard Alden, and Frank Vignola all coming to Salt Lake City's JazzSLC program together on Saturday, March 23rd, 2013 at the Capitol Theater. We are excited for this great performance.

The song is TANGERINE -- the other great song from Johnny (I Remember You) Mercer to a tune by a Hollywood film director and composer Vic Schertzinger. But you knew that. I'd just been thinking that Australia's finger-style virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel very occasionally switches to flat-pick (plectrum) and is even more astonishing. See "Tall Fiddler" and prepare to be blown away. No one has ever employed a flat-pick at speed WITH SHADING on a steel-string acoustic guitar. And here is Gene Bertoncini suprising us with similar joy! As Don Mitchell said (below): "I've never seen Gene Bertoncini play anything but a nylon string guitar, and certainly never seen him play with a pick. Interesting that he got the plectrum chops." Deepest thanks for sharing this. Will share in turn with Nancy at Sinatra Family - Forum - where I have a thread (25,000 "views") in the "Siriusly Sinatra" folder: MY FAVORITE VERSION, YOURS TOO? Early this morning we celebrated Gene's most recent recording, with my favorite living singer, Calabria Foti. sinatrafamily.com/forum/showthread.php/50183-Calabria-Foti/page3

I've seen Tommy twice in concert here in Winnipeg. First time, at a pre-show "meet & greet" with 12 other guitarists, including my talented grandson Thomas, I requested "The Tall Fiddler." A knowing smile -- as if to say 'You like the hard ones!' Mr. Emmanuel must have made a mistake, but I didn't hear it. Just as at this moment in time, six years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIico6CXfMaUfZY
