the old bucyrus hr 495 was very good shovel at the time before they were taken over under caterpillar corporation but still is good to watch old machines in action.

Pardon my ignorance, but they actually run a cable to power those things up? What voltage does it use?

Yes electric shovels have a "trailing cable" coming out the back of them. Factory spec is 8000v however this can be changed to meet the operating voltage of the mine. This particular machine I believe is fed with 13.5Kv to match the power required by the draglines on the same system. The cable is typically orange for visibility and in order to double side load cable stands have to be set up to allow the trucks to pass under the trailing cable.
