But joking aside: to me, the Bud Billiken Parade is a bit of everything: Carnival, self - presentation, and of course with a purpose: a better status for Afro - Americans, etc. The show is just great, however, something is missing: it's live music! No bands anywhere, neither on the floats, nor a bit off the parade route on stage! Just bells and whistles! The kind of music that falls silent when you pull the plug!! There is no thing as a DJ playing unplugged - or is it? So I really would like to know what has become of the "Black" music styles of the 1980s - 90s. A "real" funk & soul band like Kool & the Gang, Grandmaster Flash or the Commodores, what about that for next year? Regards, J.K.
